Message from
Dean Hovland
To: Faculty, Staff, and Students
Again, I extend my thoughts and concern to our LSUSD
family: faculty, students and staff. I wish you well as you begin to
re-build what was lost during Hurricane Katrina. In order to keep you
abreast of LSUSD activities, it is my intention to provide regular updates
from this point forward to keep everyone informed.
Plans and schedules
are coming together nicely and a core group of faculty and staff are working
to ensure the continued education of LSUSD students and residents. Patient
care is also a primary concern and we are addressing that issue in concert
with our academic mission. See the message to LSUSD patients which will be
posted later today for further information.

This orientation has

Please note that this orientation is not mandatory. Senior students are
starting rotations in satellite clinics and private practices this week to
continue their clinical requirements.
More information about the
curriculum will be provided at the orientations and will be posted to this
website as soon as possible.
Student Clinics
A 30-chair clinical
facility is being established in Baton Rouge at the LSU South Campus
Complex. The complex is comprised of two buildings and will house a dental
clinic, lecture rooms, and office space. Junior dental students and dental
hygiene students will continue their clinical education in the clinic
building. The building is comprehensive and will include laboratory
technology, centralized sterilization, oral diagnosis and x-ray.
Pre-clinical facilities are being set-up for dental and dental laboratory
technology students as well. The clinic space is expected to be complete in
three to five weeks. Updates will be posted regularly on the LSUHSC and
LSUSD website. The address of the South Campus Complex is 8000 G.S.R.I.
Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70802. Drs Randy Malloy and Michael O’Brien have
been working tirelessly to set-up this site and I extend our sincerest
thanks for their efforts.
