Tuesday, October 24, 2006

  • The Phase 2 mechanical contractor was on site at the Dental School making a check-list of all the thermostats & actuators that require repair/replacement on the 4th through 6th floors of the Clinic Building.
    • The Phase 2 electrical contractor continues to work on his punch list items on the 1st floor of the Dental Clinic Building.
    • The Phase 1 electrical contractor is working on illuminating additional light fixtures on the 1st floor of the Clinic Building.
  • At the Central Utility Plant, Entergy and the contractor performed the planned test on the older VFD, the new filter and also checked the rotation of the motor.
    • Entergy was not able to log on to the LSUHSC Energy Management System to command the pumps in order to test the first VFD with the new line filter.  Because of this the motor was not put into full operation and the refurbished motor was not able to be shut down. 
    • The amp output still has to be corrected but can only be done when the new VFD is not operating. 
    • The full speed test of the motor that was rebuilt early in the recovery was postponed.
  • The Student Parking Lot contractor is completing the process of pulling wire in Student Lot #3.  They continued to dig the trench and run conduits in Student Lot #2.

Monday, October 23, 2006

  • The contractor for the Student Parking Lot Lighting Project began digging the trench in Lot #2.  As the trench is being dug, they are running the conduit for the wiring and backfilling the trench as they finish running the conduit. 
    • Pouring of the concrete bases for the new light poles at Lot #3 has been delayed until tomorrow, while they wait for the soil to dry out. 
  • At the Dental School, the Phase 2 mechanical contractor is on site making a check-list of all the thermostats and actuators that require repair/replacement on the 2nd & 3rd floors. 
    • The Phase 2 electrical contractor is working on completing punch-list items on the 1st floor of the Clinic Building.
  • The environmental remediation contractor returned to 1542 Tulane Ave. today to clean out the drains and sump pits in the basement. 
  • The test and startup for the Central Utility Plant VFD and motor has been moved to Tuesday at the request of Entergy. 
    • The older motor will be tested with the VFD and the new filter.  
    • Corrections to the amp output monitor will be made to the new VFD while the older motor is being tested. 
    • When the test has been completed, the refurbished motor and new equipment will be put back into service.

  • The testing of electrical panels on the upper floors at 1542 Tulane continued throughout the day. 
    • The small generator that had been powering temporary working lights in the basement was removed today.  The lights are now being powered via the switch gear. 
  • Entergy requested that the test of the original VFD and filter be delayed until Monday because neither they nor the sub-contractor had sufficient staff available to man the effort today.
  • The Student Parking Lot Lighting contractor finished running the conduit in the trenches.  They are correcting one problem area where the conduit was clogged with dirt. 
  • At the Dental School, the Phase 2 mechanical contractor was on site making a check-list of all the items that require repair/replacement in the air handling unit rooms in both the Clinic and Administration Buildings.

  • The Temporary Power Project contractor at 1542 Tulane continued to check the electrical panels on upper floors to insure that power has been properly restored.
  • The new filter has now been connected to the VFD and the motor in the Central Utility Plant.  
    • On Friday, 10/20 the refurbished motor will be shut down and the original motor will be tested. 
    • The sub-contractor will make their adjustments to the refurbished motor’s VFD controls while the other system is being tested.   
  • The new light poles for the Student Parking Lot Project were delivered this morning. 
    • The contractor began working to get more wires pulled from each new pole location to the electrical panels.  However the return of heavy rains interrupted the work. 
  • At the Dental School, the architect/engineering team met with the Phase 2 contractor to plan and coordinate the testing, maintenance and/or needed repairs of the air handling units throughout the Clinic and Administration buildings.
    • The negative air machines and dehumidifiers are set-up and operating properly on floors 2 - 5 of the Clinic Building.
  • The Phase 1 electrical contractor was on site at the Dental School continuing to prepare their list of materials required for the connection of the remaining light fixtures on the 1st floor.

  • The electrical contractor at 1542 Tulane Ave. is continuing to check the electrical panels on the upper floors to insure that they now have power as intended. 
  • At the Central Utility Plant, the contractor has almost finished terminating the wires in the junction box for the filter.  They continue to run the wires for the VFD. 
    • The sub-contractor came out to correct the amp output reading on the VFD that is currently out of service.  They will return on Friday to finish making the correction. 
    • A test is scheduled for Friday, 10/20 to shut the refurbished motor down and test the original motor, following the completion of the deferred maintenance.  At that time the sub-contractor will make their adjustments to the refurbished motor’s VFD controls.
  • The heavy rains prevented any work from being done on the Student Parking Lot Lighting project today.
  • At the Dental School, The Phase 2 mechanical contractor is on site checking the Air Handling Units for proper operation.  They will be performing maintenance and/or repairs as required. This work is the result of the most recent Change Order to insure that the HVAC system is functioning properly and as designed.
  • The call station buttons and lights arrived for the Dental School elevators, but will not be installed until the hall doors arrive. No revised delivery date has been given for the new doors.
  • The Phase 1 electrical contractor (Dental School) is on site making a list of materials needed to connect the remaining light fixtures on the 1st floor.  The contractor is also making plans to begin working on the condensate & chilled water pump motors and the motor control center.

  • The contractor at 1542 Tulane powered up the switchgear and the rest of the equipment installed as part of the Temporary Power Project today. 
    • They began the process of going throughout the building; verifying that the electrical panels they intended to supply power to now have electricity. 
    • The 1000KV transformer will be left on to provide temporary power in the basement. 
    • The fourth floor riser and the 480KV transformer that powers the panels on the upper floors were turned off.  The contractor will be checking panels in the building all week. 
  • In the Central Utility Plant, the contractor has installed the junction box on top of the filter.  The cables that were on order arrived and they are preparing to run the cables from the filter to the VFD.
  • The project to provide improved lighting to the Student Parking lots continues. 
    • They are still running wire from each light pole location to the distribution panel. 
    • They are also preparing to build the concrete bases; one for each light pole.
  • The Phase 2 electrical contractor at the Dental School is working on the punch-list items (i.e., testing the dock lighting, clean-up of debris & materials, etc.).
  • The Dental School’s environmental consultant was on site completing the detailed room-by-room information assessment for the environmental remediation contract that will address Floors 2-8 in the Clinic Building and Floors 2-4 in the Administration Building.
  • The Phase 2 environmental remediation sub-contractor set-up negative-air machines and portable dehumidifiers on the upper floors of the Dental School buildings to help arrest additional mold growth.

Monday, October 16, 2006

  • Entergy powered up their electrical vault in the basement at 1542 Tulane today.  They will briefly turn it off in order to change out some switches and then they will power it back on. 
    • The power from the vault to the switch gear is good. 
    • The contractor will power up the switch gear and the rest of the new or repaired equipment installed as part of the Temporary Power Project tomorrow and testing will begin.
  • At the Central Power Plant, the deferred maintenance on the original VFD and pump is underway. 
    • The contractor is running a raceway from the filter to the VFD. 
    • The original cable that ran to the VFD is not long enough to reach from the filter and to the VFD so more cable has been ordered. 
    • The junction box that was previously installed over the VFD is being moved to the filter.  Connections will be made from there and run to the VFD.
  • The contractor finished backfilling the trench in Student Lot #3. 
    • They are running wire from each light pole to the distribution panel. 
    • They are also preparing to build concrete bases for each new light pole. 
  • The Phase 2 electrical contractor at the Dental School is on site finishing some punch-list items (i.e., testing the dock lighting, clean-up of debris materials, etc.).
    • The mechanical sub-contractor is on site completing the labeling/identification of the remaining sewerage & drain pipe.
  • The Dental School environmental consultant is on site gathering detailed room-by-room information as he prepared the environmental remediation contract for Floors 2-8 in the Clinic Building and Floors 2-4 in the Administration Building.   
    • Portable negative-air machines and dehumidifiers have been delivered to the site to be used in the remediation of the upper floors.

  • There will be an emergency generator test on Tuesday, October 17th, at 5:30 PM at the Resource Center. There will be a flickering of lights, power, and elevator service between 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM.  This test is necessary in order for LSU to accept the contractor's work.
  • On Wednesday, October 18th from 8:00 AM until noon, the fire alarm system for the Walk to Wellness will have its annual inspection.  The contractor will be testing the audible alarms, visual alarms and the elevator recall for the two elevators along Gravier Street.  There will be no evacuation of the walkway.  We are notifying all to avoid any panic or confusion.
  • The contractor has completed driving the piles in Student Lot #2.  The contractor continues to backfill the trench that holds the conduit and electrical wiring for the new lights and they are preparing to run electrical wire from each light pole to the distribution panel. 
  • At the Central Utility Plant, the refurbished motor ran long enough without any problems to satisfy the contractor that it is reliable.  This allowed Entergy to shut down the second motor and VFD so that the delayed maintenance could begin.  The contractor began disconnecting the VFD and is preparing to incorporate the new filter.

  • The Phase 2 electrical contractor at the Dental School completed the removal of the 480V electrical service that was deactivated by Entergy. 
  • At the Student Parking Lot lighting project, the contractor has completed driving the piles in Student Lot #3 and the conduits have been installed in the trench. 
    • The contractor also began driving piles in Student Lot #2 and this work will be finished by COB tomorrow. 
  • Entergy has informed the contractor at 1542 Tulane Ave. that they will be on site Monday, October 15th to energize the building. 
  • The recently installed refurbished motor and VFD at the Central Utility Plant are still running and no problems have occurred.  After a period of 7 days with no problems the contractor will begin connecting the filter to the other VFD and motor. 
    • Concurrently, they are working with their subcontractor to reprogram the VFD to correct the problem with the amp output to the monitoring and control system.  The monitoring of the amp output does not affect the operation of the equipment.

  • NOTE: This report combines the progress made on Tuesday, 10/10 and today.
  • The elevator contractor at the Dental School is continuing to wire the switches and contacts to the control panel of elevator #3.  The wiring is estimated to be 60% complete at this time.
    • The Phase 2 electrical contractor is installing light switches and duplex receptacles for the new switchgear room.
    • The Phase 1 electrical contractor is coordinating the removal of the old chiller pump motors and condenser pump motors in the Power Plant.  The pump removal has not yet been scheduled.
  • The Dental School architects hosted a pre-bid conference for the Replacement/Repairs of the Fire Exit Doors & Hardware of the Clinic & Administration Buildings (the next phase of work required to attaining building occupancy of the upper floors).  Bids for this work are due October 17, 2006. 
  • At 1542 Tulane Ave., the contractor has pressure tested the natural gas lines in the basement.  They located and repaired 4 separate leaks. 
    • Entergy has been contacted so that we can be put back on their schedule to have the building energized. 
    • The contactor has also set the exhaust fan in place. 
  • No additional work will occur at the Central Utility Plant this week, while the refurbished motor and VFD are being tested (running since it was energized on 10/6).  The refurbished motor and VFD continue to operate properly.
  • The trench for the conduit and electrical wiring for the lighting project at Student Lot #3 is complete.  Conduits have been installed and the trench is ready to be backfilled.  The electrical wire will be pulled through the conduit starting on Thursday. 
    • All of the timber piles have been driven for the light pole footings in Student Lot #3.
    • The contractor will begin driving piles for the footings at Student Lot #2 tomorrow and that work should be completed by the end of the day.
    • The entire parking lot (Student lot #3) was closed today for safety purposes.

  • The elevator contractor at the Dental School has installed the control panels for the #3 elevator and is wiring the switches & controls to the contacts in the panels.  The contractor has also removed the basement elevator (exterior) doors of elevator #3 so they can be replaced. 
  • Student Parking Lot Lighting Project:  The electrical conduits and wires have been run on the S. Prieur St. side of the lot and the trench has been backfilled.   
    • The contractor is now making the trench on the Bertrand St. side of the lot. 
    • The new aluminum light poles have been ordered and should be delivered within the next 2-3 weeks.  
    • Timber piles will be used to support the concrete footings for the new light poles.  Piles will begin to be driven tomorrow. 
  • The elevator doors on the elevator that leads to the walkway by Stanislaus Hall have been replaced.

  • The new VFD and rebuilt motor were put into operation this morning and they will be allowed to run through the weekend and all next week to test the repairs and insure that they are operating properly.
    • A problem with the VFD power output to the monitoring and control system was identified and will be diagnosed and addressed.  It does not affect the planned operation of the VFD and motor.
    • If the refurbished motor runs successfully for the next week, the other motor (currently serving in a standby role) will be taken out of service to allow overdue maintenance to be performed.
  • The project to improve the lighting in the Student Parking lot continues.  Trenching for the electrical conduit continued at Student Lot #3 today and the contractor is still identifying and marking the locations for the new poles.

  • NOTICE: Due to a small construction project on the 5th floor of the Medical Education Building, all domestic water (hot and cold), natural gas service, vacuum, medical air and de-ionized water will be shut down on Saturday, October 7th from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM.  These services will only be shut off on the 5th floor of the MEB and will not affect the rest of the building.  We appreciate your patience in this matter. 
  • The trench for the conduit and electrical wiring to support the lighting project at Student Parking Lot #3 is approximately 50% complete.  The contractor continues to locate the intended placement of all the new light poles.
  • At the Central Utility Plant, the contractor has prepped the second filter for the motor that has been operating since being repaired last fall.  The contractor will meet with the engineers tomorrow to discuss the proper wiring for the VFD controls, complete the wiring and will start up the VFD. 
  • The Phase 2 mechanical contractor at the Dental School completed the labeling of the miscellaneous branches of water pipe and has begun labeling the drain pipe. 
    • The Phase 2 electrical contractors are installing the switches for the new light fixtures at the loading dock. 
    • The elevator contractor is progressing with the installation of the elevator #3 control panel.  The panel box had to be modified to accommodate the additional switches & controls needed to operate the elevator.

  • The elevator contractor at the Dental School is removing the call buttons on the 1st floor and in the basement of the Clinic Building.  The contractor is also installing new light fixtures in elevator #3.  The elevator contractor is running the wires for the elevator #3 control panels. 
  • The Phase 2 mechanical contractor has resumed the pipe labeling/identification of the water lines in the basement of the Dental School Administration Building.  There are a couple of short branches of hot, cold, chilled, and tempered water lines that were not identified and labeled initially.  The contractor is addressing those now.  Once complete, only the drain lines will require labeling. 
  • The Phase 2 electrical contractor is roughing-in the electrical devices that are being installed on the newly repaired block walls in the basement of the Dental School.   Lighting fixtures and devices are also being installed on the loading dock.
  • The contractor responsible for the Student Parking Lot lighting continued to lay out the locations for light poles.  Work continues on the trench that will contain the electrical conduit and wiring for the new lights at Student Lot #3.  
  • Additional testing for the suspected natural gas leak at 1542 Tulane is planned and should occur in the very near future.  Until the possibility of a leak can be ruled out, the plan to reenergize the repaired electrical system will remain on hold.

  • The VFD, the new filter, and the rebuilt motor at the Central Utility Plant are now connected and wired. 
    • The power and motor rotation were checked at the startup meeting today.  The rotation of the motor is correct and the mechanical subcontractors returned to shim and align the motor. 
    • The control wire still has to be connected in order for the motor to operate normally.  We are now waiting for instructions from the architect to get the wires tied in.  Once the controls are connected and this VFD and the rebuilt motor work properly for a week, the filter will be installed in the other, previously repaired VFD and we will have restored the redundancy in the system as it was originally designed.
  • The contractor has begun working on the project to make improvements to the lighting in the Student Parking Lots on the downtown campus. 
    • The contractor is determining the location for the new light poles in Student Lot #3. 
    • They are also preparing to make a trench 18” wide and 30” deep for conduit and wire to be run to each light pole in the same parking lot. 
    • The perimeter of Student Lot #3 will be blocked off this evening and for the next few days to allow the trench to be dug. 
  • At the Dental School, the elevator contractor is installing the control panels for elevator #3 in the Clinic Building.  Additional work includes:
    • The Phase 1 contractor installed 1 of 3 new doors.  The other two doors don't have the proper hinge patterns to match the frames.
    • The contractor installed the identification tags and circuit directories in the new electrical panels.
    • The architects & FEMA representatives were on site today reviewing and aligning the permanent repair Project Worksheets for the site damage at the Dental School campus.

Monday, October 2, 2006

  • Tests were conducted in the basement of 1542 Tulane Ave. today to check for a suspected natural gas leak using an electronic sensor/sniffer.  They were unable to detect a leak.   We are now waiting for a decision from the architects and engineers regarding when Entergy can energize the building and testing the temporary repairs that have been completed thus far. 
  • The VFD and the new filters in the Central Utility Plant are now connected.  The electrical cables have to be secured and the panel doors closed.  Once the wiring diagrams are received, the contractor will complete the connections of the control wires for the VFD. 
    • The subcontractor that rebuilt the pump motor is on site today realigning and shimming the motor.  They are planning to complete this work tomorrow. 
    • The contractor also plans to complete a preliminary test of the motor tomorrow.
  • In the basement of the Dental School, the repairs to the block wall by the morgue and the chemical storage room has been completed.
  • The elevator contractor is replacing the travel cables and buffers on elevator #3 in the Dental School Clinic Building. The governor sheave and the governor cables have also been replaced on elevator #3.

  • The elevator contractor at the Dental School has begun changing the cables on Elevator #3 in the Clinic Building.
  • The incinerator manufacturer has discovered a broken gas regulator on the Dental School incinerator which must be replaced before the incinerator can be started up and tested.
  • The repairs to the block walls in the basement at the Dental School continue.  The contractor plans to work through the weekend and complete the repairs to the wall at the morgue and chemical storage room.
  • The minor leaks discovered in the Dental School’s Soft Water System have been repaired and the system has been pressurized.
  • The emergency chiller has been repaired and is back in service.  Cooling is again being provided to the Clinic and Administration Buildings at the Dental School.
  •  The contractor at 1542 Tulane has been asked to provide a proposal to have the natural gas lines piping in the basement tested for leaks.  Resolving the potential of a gas leak is essential before the building can be re-energized and the temporary repairs to the electrical system tested.
  • Holes have been drilled from the new VFD to the filters at the Central Utility Plant.  The electrical cables have been pulled to connect the equipment to the building power.

  • At the Central Utility Plant, the contractor is completing the installation of the filters.  They are also running electrical wiring between the motor and the VFD.  The installation of the motor itself is continuing and is expected to be completed tomorrow.
  • Temporary repairs at the Dental School continue:
    • The contractor is making repairs to the emergency chiller.  We continue to monitor this device, as it has experienced frequent problems in adequately cooling the building. 
    • The elevator contractor is continuing to prepare the elevator connectors and controls for the installation of the #3 elevator control panel. 
    • Repairs to the block wall at the morgue and chemical storage room are approximately 85% complete.

  • The planned energizing of 1542 Tulane Ave. has been postponed due to concerns about a possible natural gas leak.  The contractor is preparing a proposal that will allow testing occur.   Once this safety issue is resolved, Entergy and the contractor will proceed with energizing the building.
  • The rebuilt motor at the Central Utility Plant is completely connected and tied in.  The panels for the wires have been left open for review. 
    • The VFD was temporarily raised 6 inches on blocks of wood to allow the holes for the connections to the filters and the power to be drilled. The new channels for the VFD to sit on are still on order.
  • At the Dental School, the elevator contractor is preparing the elevator controls and contacts to complete the wiring of the control panel for Elevator #4 in the Clinic Building.
    • The contractor is now repairing the other block walls in the basement (morgue, chemical storage, etc).  The block wall by the chemical storage area and the morgue is 75% complete.
    • The contractor cleared the debris clogging the storm drain at the loading dock.
    • The temporary-temporary chiller is not properly cooling the building. The 24-hr response technician has been notified.

September 26, 2006

  • At 1542 Tulane Ave., the contractor has run the electrical cables to the booster pumps. 
    • They are waiting on a wiring diagram before attempting to wire the pumps to the control box.  However, the pumps are temporarily connected directly without going through the control box so the pumps can checked after the building power is turned on. 
    • Entergy will be working with the contractor to energize the repaired electrical systems in the building between 11:00 AM and 12:00 Noon tomorrow. 
  • The cables for the rebuilt pump motor at the Central Utility Plant have been tied into the junction box.  The new supports for the VFD have not been delivered yet. 
  • Repairs to the other block walls (morgue, chemical storage, etc.) in the Dental School basement are underway. 
    • The Soft Water System has been successfully started & tested.  Only a few minor leaks were discovered which will be repaired once the replacement parts arrive. 
    • The elevator repairs are ongoing. The contractor is currently wiring the elevator cab panels prior to their being installed.

September 25, 2006

  • The replacement table tops and modesty panels for the MEB Lecture Rooms arrived Friday and were installed over the weekend.  The remaining raceway covers and pedestal covers were also installed.  The furniture installers will be leveling the table tops as the class schedules permit throughout this week.  The old tops and modesty panels will be removed from the building tomorrow.
  • The contractor working at the Central Utility Plant is working on wiring the rebuilt motor to building power. 
  • Progress in completing the remaining temporary repairs to the Dental School Clinic and Administration Building continues. 
    • The walls for Elevator #3 in the DS Clinic Bldg were installed over the weekend. The whisper cable was installed on Elevator #3 today.  One set of control panels was delivered to the site today and will be installed once it has been wired. 
    • The Medical Gas System was tested on Friday and no leaks were found in the pipes, however, the connectors at the end of the pipes on the upper floors are believed to be faulty. The contractor will submit a price to repair the faulty connectors to the architects for approval. 
    • The Soft Water System was diagnosed with an electrical problem which was determined to be caused by faulty fuses. The fuses are being replaced and the need for further diagnosis will be determined. 
    • Repairs to the block wall at the loading dock have been completed and the needed repairs to the other damaged block walls (morgue, chemical storage, etc) are set to begin.

  • Work is underway at the Central Utility Plant to install and connect the VFD, the filters and the rebuilt motor.  The VFD must be elevated approximately 6 inches to match the connection points.  New taller channels have been ordered for the VFD to rest on.  \
  • The air handling unit at the MEB that was replaced as part of the renovations to the large Lecture Halls had broken belts.  The belts have been replaced and the unit has been restarted.  Additional repairs will be completed next week.
  • At the Dental School, the repairs to block wall at the loading dock continue.  The contractor will be working over the weekend to complete this task.  
    • The Medical Gas System has been successfully tested.
    • The Soft Water System is being diagnosed for electrical problems. 
    • The temporary-temporary chiller is not cooling the building. The 24-hr response team has been notified.

Thursday, September 21, 2006

  • Updates on progress at the Dental School follow:
    • The concrete block wall at the dock is 75% complete.
    • The Soft Water System could not be started today.  We believe that this may be due to faulty wiring. The contractor is investigating the situation to determine the cause and effect repairs as needed. 
    • Testing of the Medical Gas System is scheduled for Friday, September 22, 2006.
    • The contractor continues to identify and label new piping in the basement. 
    • The sinks for room 6314B have been reinstalled.
    • The gas line for the incinerator has been purged of the water and moisture. The incinerator is being scheduled for start-up/testing.
  • Repairs at 1542 Tulane Ave. are continuing. 
    • The contractor has finished wiring the fire pump and the jockey pump along with their controllers.   
    • The exhaust fan has not been installed yet because it was delivered with the wrong louvers.  The correct louvers are on order. 
    • The contractor has begun removing some of the old unused and loose hanging wires from the basement.  They are also waiting for directions on how to wire the two booster pumps. 
    • One of the sub-contractors assembled the two mobile emergency gasoline pumps today. 
  • The installation of the closet doors continued at the Residence Hall in all three towers.
  • At the Central Utility Plant, the VFD, the two filters and the re-built motor were all delivered this morning.  They have been set in place. 
    • The contractor reports that the start up crew is scheduled to be on site on Thursday, September 28th.    

Tuesday, September 19, 2006

  • The contractor working at 1542 Tulane has installed the control panel for the building pumps and is running the cables to the fire pump and the jockey pump.
    • They are also running the electrical feed for the exhaust fan which is being installed at this time.
  • At the Central Utility Plant, we are waiting for the VFD to be delivered.  It is scheduled to arrive on Thursday of this week.  The removal of the damaged equipment in the Plant has begun, but was temporarily halted when the contractor’s crew was found to be working without a foreman or superintendent.
  • The elevator contractor at the Dental School received a shipment of parts for the repair of the damaged elevator door assemblies.  These will be utilized when the new elevator doors themselves are received.
  • Additional work continues at the Dental School:
    • The repairs to the block wall at the loading dock are underway.
    • The small emergency generator that was initially used to provide power for the temporary repairs being made has been removed.
    • The reinstallation of the cabinets and sink in Room 6314B (removed to allow moldy wall board to be removed) is almost completed.

  • The MEB atrium “We Proudly Brew Starbucks” coffee kiosk reopened this morning.  Service will be available from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm daily, Monday through Friday. 
  • 1542 Tulane Temporary Repair Project:
    • Two pumps and an exhaust fan were delivered today. 
    • The contractor is cleaning the debris out of the basement and continuing to close up panels. 
    • Entergy has installed their current transformers for the metering. 
  • The window repair contractor has completed installation of the doors at Residence Hall.  The contractor also removed the old doors that were left on the mezzanine level. 
  • Work at the Dental School Clinic and Administration Buildings continues.
    • Pipe Insulation labeling/identification continues. 
    • Incinerator gas lines are being drained.  The plan is to ignite the burner later this week to test its operation. 
    • The medical gas cylinders have been connected to the oxygen & nitrous oxide manifolds. 
    • The contractor has delivered block materials to the jobsite to begin repairs to the damaged block walls. 
    • The contractors are re-installing the cabinets and miscellaneous fixtures in Lab 6314B.  These items were removed to allow the remediation contractor to address the molded walls in this area. 
    • The contractor has begun removal of the chilled water pump motors as required by the change order that includes the repair of the Motor Control Center.

    • Entergy has finished installing their meters.
    • Ordes is closing all of the new panels and labeling the old and unused panels.
    • Ordes has also red taped all pipes and conduit with high voltage wires. They are waiting on Entergy to energize the vault.
  • Campus Window Replacement:
    • The contractor has completed the installation of the doors at Residence Hall. There are two more windows to replace on the main campus. There is one on the east side CSRB and the other is on the first floor of the Resource Center.
  • Central Utility Plant:
    • The motor will be delivered late next week. The filters have arrived and are stored at the electrician’s warehouse. The VFD is scheduled to arrive Monday of next week. They will mobilize next week to start work again.
  • Garage Elevators:
    • Reliable expects to have an elevator working in 6 ½ weeks. They are scheduled to start working again in 1 ½ weeks.
  • Dental School:
    • Pipe Insulation labeling/identification continues.
    • Repairs of the incinerator continue.
    • The emergency generator has been refueled to 100% & is ready to operate.
    • The temporary-temporary chiller has been repaired. The contractor replaced two compressors & the system is cooling the building.
    • The medical gas cylinders arrived and are staged on the loading dock for use in the testing of the medical gas system.

    • Flooded vehicles have been removed from the downtown parking lots.

    • The emergency generator is being load tested before final connections are made to the building systems.
    • The design engineers returned to the jobsite today to review the assessments of the PWs in attempts to finalize the scope of work for the buildings on the back campus.
  • 1542 Tulane Ave:
    • Entergy and Ordes finished pulling wires into the vault to supply power to all of the new panels in the basement. The new Entergy Vault Equipment will be installed this evening. Ordes is planning to power up the vault on Friday.
    • The cables from the vault to the 13.8 Switchgear are being connected at the switchgear.
  • Campus Window Replacement:
    • The two windows on the east side of the Nursing Building were replaced today.
    • The last of the parts for the glass doors arrived for Residence Hall and the contractor installed one of the doors.
  • Central Utility Plant:
    • The filters have arrived and are stored at the electrician’s warehouse.
    • The VFD (controller) is scheduled to arrive Monday of next week. They will mobilize next week to start work again.

  • Dental School:
    • Pipe Insulation labeling/identification continues. The contractors have completed the labeling/identification of the ice water pipe and are continuing to label the remaining water pipes (Domestic Hot & Cold) in the basement. The pipe insulators are also changing some insulation that was damaged by construction.
    • Soft Water System piping is complete in the Power Plant. The contractor filled the tanks & added the salt mixture. All that remains is the start-up & testing of the system. Start-up will commence once the repair of the Motor Control Center has completed. This change order is being reviewed by the Architect.
    • Mold Remediation of heavily molded rooms (6413B, 6409, & 7409A) is complete. The contractors have removed the safety barriers around these areas & are awaiting inspection of the work.
    • The work remaining on the Emergency Generator is the swapping of connections from the temporary-temporary to the temporary-permanent.
    • The damaged vehicles stored at the Dental School Campus have been removed.
  • MEB:
    • Large Lecture Rooms. The furniture installer finished installing the electrical components today and will finish installing the race way covers when the pedestals come in for the ADA seating in the last row on each end of the projection booth. The replacement tops are scheduled to come in on the 19th.
    • The electricians are needed to connect the last whips to the power at the 3 of the desks.
  • 1542 Tulane Ave:
    • Entergy came out today and together with Ordes began pulling wires into the vault to supply power to all of the new panels in the basement. Equipment will have to be changed out in the vault before power can be restored. The equipment for the temporary power is on order and should be here by Thursday.
    • The cables from the vault to the 13.8 Switchgear are being connected at the switchgear.
    • They have begun connecting the cables to the power and the feeds to the 4th floor riser. The grounds are also being run and connected.
    • Labeling of the new panel boxes continues that Ordes have finished connecting to the transformer and the equipment they will feed.
    • Wink Engineering is working on plans to provide power and replace mechanical components that will make the building more suitable for occupancy.
  • Central Utility Plant:

    • Lecture Halls -- The electrical components for Lecture Room A arrived Friday. The furniture installer began installing the components today and will finish up tomorrow. These components will provide power to the rest of the pods on the tables.

    • Testing of the cables for the 4th floor riser continues. They have begun connecting the cables to the power and the feeds.
    • Entergy is scheduled to come out tomorrow to open the vault and allow Ordes Electric to pull in new cables.
    • Wink Engineering is working on plans to provide power and replace mechanical components that will make the building more suitable for occupancy.
    • Ordes Electric is still labeling the new panel boxes that they have finished connecting to the transformer and the equipment they will feed.
  • Central Utility Plant:
    • We are still waiting for the Variable Speed Drive and motor to be delivered.

    • Pipe insulation labeling/identification continues. The contractors have completed the labeling/identification of the steam condensate pipe and are continuing to label the remaining water pipes in the basement.
    • Soft Water System piping continues as the contractors are replacing the soft water piping in the Power Plant. All three of the soft water tanks have had the pipes & gauges changed. The contractor has filled the tanks & has added the salt mixture. All that remains is the start-up & testing of the system.
    • Mold Remediation of heavily molded rooms (6413B, 6409, & 7409A) is complete. The contractors have installed the new drywall and have completed the application of new wall finishes for these areas (i.e. paint and cove base). The contractors have removed the safety barriers around these areas & are awaiting inspection.
    • The work remaining on the Emergency Generator is the swapping of connections from the temporary-temporary to the temporary-permanent.
    • The Elevator contractor is still awaiting additional parts & new elevator doors prior to resuming work on the elevators. Additional parts are expected to arrive within a couple of weeks.
    • The Medical Gas System is being rescheduled for testing pending the arrival of gas cylinders which are to be provided by LSUHSC. LSUHSC is working to procure the cylinders through the Purchasing Department.
    • The contractor pressure washed the slab & cleared the floor drain strainers in the mechanical room of the basement.

    • The seating contractor reports that all missing electrical components will be received by this Friday. Installation will be done immediately.
    • The seating contractor also reports that the replacements for all of the damaged items (tops and modesty panels) will ship no later than 9/19. These will be installed over a weekend so as to not interfere with classes.

    • Pipe Insulation labeling/identification continues. The contractors have completed the labeling/identification of the heating hot water pipe and have started labeling the domestic water & steam condensate pipe in the basement.
    • Soft Water System piping continues as the contractors are replacing the soft water piping in the Power Plant. All three of the soft water tanks have had the pipes & gauges changed. The contractor is making plans to partially fill the tanks and is preparing the system for testing.
    • Mold Remediation of heavily molded rooms (6413B, 6409, & 7409A) is complete. The contractors have installed the new drywall and are applying paint and cove base to the new walls.
    • The Emergency Generator (temporary-permanent) installation is still underway and progressing towards completion.

  • NOTICE: We are very pleased to announce the reopening of the food service operation in the Medical Education Building on Monday, September 11, 2006. Hours of operation will be 7:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Catering services will also resume with the opening of the facility. 
    • The target date for reopening the Atrium coffee kiosk is later that same week, but no later than Monday, September 18, with hours of operation from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
  • The latest information on the Dental School repairs is provided below:
    • The labeling/identification of the heating hot water pipe is now complete and the labeling of the domestic water and steam condensate pipes has begun. 
    • Mold Remediation of heavily molded rooms (6413B, 6409, & 7409A) is complete. The contractors have installed the new drywall and are taping and floating the new walls. 
    • The installation of the temporary emergency generator is progressing towards completion. 
  • In the basement of 1542 Tulane Ave. the temporary repairs to the building electrical systems continue.  The tracing of the various circuits and the process of terminating high voltage wires is in process.
  • The contractor making permanent repairs to windows on the downtown campus replaced two more windows; one at the CSRB and one on the west side of the Lion’s/LSU Clinic Building.
  • Another parking lot at the intersection of Perdido Street and S. Roman Street has been re-opened for use.  The Perdido St. parking lot parking is authorized for use by Graduate Students, 3rd & 4th Year Medicine Students, and assigned Roman St. Garage faculty and staff.  The Perdido Street lot also offers accessible parking spaces for employees and students with mobility impairment.

  • At the Dental School, the pipe insulation labeling and identification project continues. The contractor has completed the labeling and identification of the steam piping and has started labeling the domestic water and heating hot water pipes in the basement.
    • Soft water system piping continues as the contractor is replacing the soft water piping in the Power Plant.  All three of the soft water tanks have had the pipes & gauges changed.  The new control panel and controls for soft water tanks have been installed and electrically connected.
    • The remediation of the heavily molded rooms (6413B, 6409, & 7409A) is complete.  The contractors are preparing to replace the damaged drywall in these rooms.
    • The temporary emergency generator is on site and is being electrically connected to the various building systems that it will serve.

  • The new VFD for the chilled water pump in the Central Utility Plant is expected to be received this week.  Upon receipt, these repairs can begin.
  • The task of tracing the various electrical circuits continues at 1542 Tulane Ave.
    • The high voltage connections in the switch gear are being terminated.
    • The change order for an additional sub-panel and the elevator feeder has been submitted.  Once it has been approved, this work can begin.
  • Lecture Room A in the MEB can now be used as needed.  However, there are still missing or damaged elements (seats, table tops, panel covers, modesty panels, etc.) that have not yet been received or replaced.  There are also a limited number of the table top electrical connections that are not powered at this time.
  • Work at the Dental School is continuing to progress.
    • The contractor has completed the labeling/identification of all of the steam pipes and has started labeling the domestic water pipe in the basement. 
    • Soft Water System piping continues as the plumbers are replacing the soft water piping in the Power Plant. Two of the three soft water tanks have had the pipes and gauges changed. 
    • The medical gas system (oxygen & nitrous oxide) was tested today; however, there were some problems identified with the panel controls.  Repairs will be made as needed.  The system is scheduled for retesting on Tuesday, September 5th.  The system is currently pressurized with 70 lbs of pressure and is holding pressure. 
    • Mold Remediation of heavily molded rooms (6413B, 6409, & 7409A) is nearing completion. The contractors continue to prep the rooms for retesting as required. 
  • The exhaust system in the MEB cafeteria kitchen has been repaired and is operational.  A contractor is scheduled to come out on Friday, September 1st to certify that the fire extinguishing systems in the kitchen are operating properly.

  • At the Dental School, the project to identify and label all of the new piping is proceeding.  The contractor has completed the labeling and identification of all the chilled water pipes and they have started labeling the steam pipes as well.
  • The piping of the soft water system at the Dental School continues as the contractor is replacing the related piping in the Power Plant.
  • The Dental School’s medical gas system (oxygen & nitrous oxide) is scheduled for testing tomorrow, Wednesday, August 30th.  The system has been pressurized with 70 lbs of pressure for a few days and has been holding. 
  • Mold remediation of the heavily molded rooms at the Dental School (6413B, 6409, & 7409A) is nearing completion.  The contractor continues to prep the rooms for retesting.
  • In the MEB Lecture Hall A, LSUHSC Facility Services personnel secured the hanging cables under the table tops so that a class can utilize the room tomorrow.

  • Additional progress in restoring temporary electrical power to 1542 Tulane Ave. was made today. 
    • The electrical grounds have been made from the 1000 KV and 500 KV transformers to the water pipe and the grid in the vault. 
    • The electricians finished piping in the 13.8 V transformer to the switchgear.  All of the wires have been pulled except for the wires to the vault. 
    • The electrical grounds are being connected to the 13.8 Amp switchgear. 
    • The contractor is now tracing the circuits to the PL2 and PL3 panels and the loads are being terminated as each trace is completed. 
    • The 480 V circuits are landed to the troughs and the starter disconnect. 
    • The electricians are flagging and painting the 13.8V pipes red. 
  • In the MEB, the last of the work is underway to make Lecture Room A available for use. 
    • The data testing subcontractor finished testing the connections at the pods and in the data cabinets over the weekend.  The pods and the data cabinet must still be labeled. 
  • At the Dental School, the removal of flood damaged medical records is now complete.  Additional notes on the work include the following:
    • The elevator contractors have changed the buffers on Elevators #6 & #7. However, further elevator work is now on hold until additional parts and materials arrive. 
    • The medical gas system (oxygen & nitrous oxide) is scheduled for testing on Wednesday, August 30. The system is currently pressurized with 70 lbs of pressure & holding. 
    • The labeling of the new piping and insulation is currently underway.  The contractor is beginning with the chilled water piping, which is approximately 80% complete. 
    • Mold remediation of heavily molded rooms (6413B, 6409, & 7409A) is nearing completion. The rooms did not pass the air tests and must be retested. Retesting is scheduled for later this week. 
    • The domestic water system successfully passed water testing for sterilization.

  • There continues to be significant activity at the Dental School as the 1st two contracts for temporary work are moving towards completion. There have been some additional repairs identified as the work has been completed, and those tasks are being specified to be bid or handled as change orders to the existing contracts. Specifics updates on work from today include:
    • An estimated 75% of the flood damage medical records have now been removed from the basement.
    • Elevators #6 & #7 in the Administration Bldg. are being prepped by the elevator contractor. The rails and tracks in the elevator pits and shafts are being sanded & painted to add corrosion resistance.
    • The Medical Gas System testing is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 30. The system is currently under 80 lbs of pressure and holding.
    • Pipe labeling/identification of the new piping in the basement is currently underway, beginning with the chilled water piping in the Clinic Building.
    • The contractor is working on repairs to the Soft Water System in the Power Plant.
    • The emergency chiller went offline last night & was reported this morning. The 24 hour response team responded and restarted the chiller this afternoon. (This emergency chiller will soon be replaced by temporary units that will connect directly to the buildings cooling systems.)
    • A faucet on the 6th floor was left open in a lab and caused water damage on the NW corner of the Clinic Building. The damage extends from the 6th floor to the Basement of the Clinic. Clean-up of the water is complete.
    • Entergy is working on a high-voltage power line on Florida Avenue. There is a tree near the power line that is causing the power line to arc near the NE corner of the Clinic Building.
  • Work on the temporary repair contract at 1542 Tulane continues.
    • The contractor is having problems tracing the wires and the loads that the various electrical panels are supplying. This is due in part to the lack of “as built” drawings from the original construction and a long history of repairs and renovations.
    • Workers are in the process of piping in the 4th floor riser and they are piping in the vault to the 13.8 Switchgear and the 500 and 1000 KV transformers.
    • They are also terminating the electrical power and loads to the 1000 KV transformer.
    • We have received the environmental clearances for the 1st floor.
  • In MEB’s Lecture Room A, the contract electricians and the testing company are testing the data lines at the table top pod terminations and the corresponding terminations in the data cabinets.  They are also labeling the pods with all of the specific circuit locations.

  • At 1542 Tulane, all of the existing electric panels have been located throughout the building.
    • Because of the age of the building, drawings of the original building systems as they were designed and built are not available. Therefore, the contractor has had to trace the old wires. This work continues.
    • They are also continuing to pipe in the 13.8KV Switchgear.
  • The furniture installer returned to the MEB Lecture Room to complete the installation of the raceways, modesty panels, and power pole covers. The majority of the installations were completed today.
  • The manufacturer of the Dental School incinerator is scheduled to start the initial repairs next Tuesday.
  • The Dental School repairs are continuing to move forward.
    • Mold Remediation of the heavily molded rooms (6413B, 6409, & 7409A) is nearing completion.
    • The contractor is completing the installation of the control panel for the ice water heat exchanger, Air Handling Units and Fan Coil Units (for the Basement & 1st Floor), steam to hot water converter, and the hot water heaters.
    • The governor cables and shivs have been changed on Elevators #3 & #4.
    • Insulation of the water piping is approximately 95% complete. Once completed, pipe labeling/identification will begin.
    • The medical records removal contract is approximately 60% complete at this time.
    • Domestic Water System Sterilization/Sanitizing has been completed. We are waiting on the final/official results & supporting documentation that certifies that the system is ready for operation.
    • The emergency chiller is being monitored for proper operation following a recent failure and is performing as expected.
    • Medical Gas System piping fabrication & soldering is 100% complete. The contractor is scheduling leak tests for the system.

  • The temporary electrical repairs are progressing well at 1542 Tulane.
    • The contractor is in the process of piping in the 1000KV transformer with the 13.8K amp transformer.  All of the electrical loads from the building are terminated now, except for the loads to the elevators. 
    • All of the PL panels (1-5) are also terminated at the 1000KV transformer.  The buses have been installed in the transformer.
    • The 13.8KV switchgear is set in place and the contractor has begun piping it into the building. 
    • They are preparing the electrical cables for connecting the loads run by the PL4 panel. 
    • They have begun tracing the various feeds to the upper floors throughout the building with the help of LSUHSC Facility Services electricians.  
  • In Lecture Room A at the MEB, the contractor installed the remaining electrical & network connection pods in the table tops.  One of the electrical wiring harnesses that supplies power to the pods is missing, so a single row of table tops will be without electrical power temporarily, until the harness is delivered and installed.
  • The gas pipe has been installed in Room 4207A, just off the Gross Anatomy Lab. 
  • The last of the leaks have been fixed on the new sinks installed in the Gross Anatomy and Swing Labs.  All of the fittings were tightened which seems to have resolved the last of the problems.
  • The elevator pits in the Roman Street Garage have been pumped out and cleaned, so that repairs to the elevator parts in the pits can be completed.
  • The contractor repairing windows on the downtown campus installed much of the missing metal trim around the windows of the buildings. 
    • There are only two windows left to replace on the Allied Health Nursing Bldg. and one window on CSRB. 
    • Six windows for 1542 Tulane have been delivered but not yet installed. 
  •  Progress at the Dental School continues. 
    • The contractor changed the governor cables on Elevators #1 & #2 and changed the governor shivs on the freight & #1 and #2 elevators. 
    • The domestic water system is being chemically treated with a chlorinated solution to sterilize the domestic water system. 
    • The hot water system is operating at half capacity due to a faulty panel supplied with one of the hot water heaters. The new panel is on order and is expected to arrive shortly. 
    • The pipe insulators continue to work towards completion.

  • At the Dental School, the pipe fabrication for the medical gas systems continues. 
    • Oxygen piping is complete, while the NO2 is approximately 50% complete. 
    • The project to remove the flood damaged medical records is progressing well. 
    • The hoist cables, governor, and the travel cables have been replaced on the freight elevator #5. 
    • The hoist and travel cables were replaced on elevators #1, 2, and 4.
  • The contractor making the temporary repairs at 1542 Tulane received the 13.8 K Volt switch gear was delivered today and it was moved into the basement.  The installation can now begin.
  • The contractor repairing the windows on the downtown campus addressed damage to parts of the metal curtains walls on the Nursing/Allied Health Building and the CSRB.

  • At the Dental School, the pipe fabrications for Medical Gas (Oxygen & Nitrous Oxide) Systems continue.
    • The removal of the flood-damaged medical records continued today. 
    • The environmental remediation of heavily molded rooms (6413B, 6409, & 7409A) is progressing. 
    • The control panel for the ice water heat exchanger, AHUs, steam to hot water converter, & hot water heaters is being installed.
    • Work also continues on the elevators. The contractors are changing the hoist cables & the governor cables on the freight elevator & Elevators #1, #2, & #4 in the Clinic Building. 
    • The pipe insulators are making progress towards completion of their work.
  • There are 106 windows in the original project to make permanent window repairs on the downtown campus. 
    • The six windows at 1542 have not been replaced. 
    • There are four windows left to replace on the main side of the campus.  That means that a total of 96 windows have replaced. 
    • There are 3 additional windows that were found broken.  A proposal will be sent to the architect for approval.  It will take eight weeks for the additional glass to arrive and be installed. 
    • 9 of the original windows from the contract should be installed by the end of the week if the weather permits.  One glass came in the wrong size and was reordered.
  • The remaining work in the MEB Lecture Room was delayed today, because several of the electrical components needed to complete the work have not been shipped and received.   We are following up with the contractor to get the shipment(s) expedited.

  • Reminder: The contractor working on 1542 Tulane Avenue will need to set up cranes in the Lakeside Lot beginning early Monday morning, August 21st.  The lot will be closed Monday and Tuesday, August 21st and 22nd.   No vehicles will be allowed in the lot during this process and all vehicles must be removed prior to 5:00 AM Monday, August 21st.    
  • Of the windows that were originally identified as having been damaged by the hurricane on the downtown campus, 96 window systems have been replaced.  
    • Three window systems are still on order.
    • There are three new windows that are included in a proposed change order that will require approximately 8 weeks to be delivered, once the change is approved. 
    • The six damaged windows at 1542 Tulane, which were part of the original project, remain to be replaced.
    • An additional change order is being prepared for submission to the architects.  This will address leaks in the atrium glass ceiling in the Resource Center.  The revised proposal including all new items will be sent to the architect Monday.
  • The repairs to building systems at 1542 Tulane are progressing. 
    • Electrical panels PL2 and 3 were mounted today. 
    • The PL1 cables have been run but are not yet terminated.  The contractor is in the process of building the cable supports from the ceiling of the basement. 
    • Several men are working on tying in the feeder cables from the 1KV transformer to the 3KV switchgear which powers the elevators. 
    • The 600 Amp Disconnect is mounted and the feeder cables are terminated to it. 
    • Over the coming weekend the troughs will be mounted for the cables that power the sump pumps.
  • Work in the basement of the Dental School continued today. 
    • The insulation of the water piping in the Administration building continued. 
    • Mold remediation has begun in some of the upper rooms that were heavily impacted; Rooms 6413B, 6409, & 7409A. 
    • The piping for repairing the medical gas system has been delivered and is staged onsite. 
    • Replacement of governor cables for Elevator #4 in the Clinic Bldg underway. Elevator doors for Elevator #4 on the 1st floor has been removed...awaiting new replacement doors. 
    • The removal of the flood damaged medical records is approximately 50% complete. 
    • The new natural gas piping has been completed, but it has been shut off until the system testing can be scheduled and completed. 
    • The recently emergency chiller failed today during a brief afternoon thunderstorm.   The 24 hour response team was called to bring the chiller back online. 
  • In the MEB cafeteria, the contractor is installing the grill hood exhaust fan which required repairs following the storm.

    • Temporary electrical power has been restored to basement.
    • The installation of pipe insulation for the ice water system is complete. 
    • The connection of the wet-vac piping to the building plumbing system is complete.  A light fixture that impeded the connection has been relocated.  The wet-vac system electrical controls still need to be connected to building power. 
    • The hot water system has been connected to the expansion tank. 
    • All of the water piping (including steam lines) in the mechanical room of the Clinic Building basement has been insulated.  The pipes must still be properly labeled. 
    • The removal and destruction of flood damaged medical records that have been held in the Administration building’s basement has begun. 
    • The insulation of the water pipes in the Administration building basement is underway and is progressing toward completion.  The pipes will still require proper labeling.
    • The original building switchgear has been completely dismantled and removed. 
    • Natural gas piping is 90% complete and the medical gas piping (NO2, O2, etc.) is progressing well.
  • The elevator contractor working at the Dental School has also made good progress. 
    • Elevator car #3 in the Clinic building has been completely removed. 
    • Elevator doors #1, #2, & #4 have been completely removed in the Clinic basement.  The contractor is awaiting the arrival of the replacement doors. 
    • Elevator travel cables for the elevators in the Clinic building have arrived and are staged onsite. 
    • Elevator buffers and travel cables for the elevators in the Administration building are also onsite.
  • The contractor at 1542 Tulane is continuing their demolition and is running new cables.  The feeders were run to Panels PLL4 and PLL1.  
    • The 13.8KV switchgear will not arrive until Monday, 8/21.  A crane has been ordered and will be arrive on site next Monday as well.  It will be used to lower the switchgear into the basement and lift old parts and debris out.
  • The bids for the contract to enhance the Student Parking Lot Parking lighting are being reviewed for compliance with the specifications.  As soon as the lowest responsible bidder can be identified, the award of the contract will proceed.

  • In the Gross Anatomy Lab, there are a few of the new sinks that leak.  The contractor and LSUHSC Facility Services are working together to address these issued. 
    • One sink is marked as “out of order”, due to the acid drain (glass) having broken.  The repairs are anticipated to be complete on this sink tomorrow. 
  • The lights in the Gross Lab were temporarily repaired by Facility Services while waiting for the new automatic sensors to be installed.
  • The contractor still needs to connect the gas in room 4207A (just off of the Gross Lab).
  • The contractor is making progress in the MEB Lecture Room A. 
    • The electricians continue to make the electrical and data connections to the individual table tops.
    • The furniture installers are continuing with the installation of the modesty panels. The truck arrived from the manufacturer late in the afternoon with the remaining table tops and modesty panels required to complete the installation.
  • In Lecture Room B, testing revealed that 14 of the network outlets mounted on the table tops were not functioning.  The majority of the problems have been resolved and the three (3) remaining connections have been marked.
    • The LSUHSC Computer Services Network group has spent considerable time over a short period of time to test and trouble shoot the network connections in Lecture Room B, so that they will be available for the 1st year Medical students in the morning.
  • The contractor making permanent repairs to damaged windows on the downtown campus has approximately 15 windows still to replace.  Some of the replacement window systems are still on order, and the contractor needs different equipment to complete the installation of others. 
  • The environmental remediation contactor returned to 1542 Tulane today to complete additional cleaning on the 1st and 2nd floors (Room 214).  Those spaces have also been re-tested to determine if the cleaning was effective.  As soon as the test results come in, we will advise you of the status of those spaces.  Until then, Room 214 and the 1st floor are still restricted.

  • At 1542 Tulane, the 500KV and 1000KV switchgears, LP1 panels, starters and cables have arrived and were lowered into the basement.  The installation will begin shortly.
  • Additional modesty panels needed in the MEB, Lecture Room A have been installed.  The supplier has indicated that the balance of the table tops will arrive tomorrow, however this does not include the replacements for some damaged tops that have been temporarily installed. 
  • The contractor making the permanent repairs to damaged windows on the downtown campus has installed all of the windows that have been delivered. The remaining window systems are expected to arrive during this week. 
  • The temporary repair work continues at the Dental School. 
    • Testing of the Compressed Air System is ongoing – they are continuing to find air leaks at the dental chairs in the Clinic Building.
    • Testing of the steam lines are ongoing - a leak was found in one of the pipes in the basement of the Clinic Building. 
    • Ventilation fans in the Power Plant were shut-down due to a failure of one of the fans - either the switch or the motor is believed to be at fault. 
    • The start-up and testing of the Ice Water Machines/System is scheduled for 8/15/06.

  • We have received additional results of the testing that was done at 1542 Tulane following the recent completion of the environmental remediation work.
    • All spaces on the 3rd through the 8th floors have been cleared.
    • All of the spaces on the 2nd floor except for Room 214 have been cleared.  This room will be sealed/locked until it can be re-cleaned and cleared by subsequent testing.
    • The majority of the spaces on the 1st floor and in the basement have been cleared.
    • The remediation contractor will be required to return to re-clean the few areas that have not been cleared.
    • LSUHSC faculty and staff may once again access spaces within 1542 Tulane via the 2nd floor stairwell, by following the normal clearance procedure.  Access to Room 214, the 1st floor and the basement is still prohibited.   
  • In the MEB, the electricians continued to make the individual electrical and network connections to each of the new table tops.
  • The case work, counter tops and plumbing fixtures have all been installed in the Morgue, the Gross Anatomy Lab and the Swing Lab. 
    • All of the sinks in these rooms are operational but one.  That work will be completed shortly.
    • The rubber base molding must still be installed around the bases of all the new casework.

  • The installation of the new casework, counter tops and plumbing fixtures in the MEB’s Gross Anatomy Lab and Swing Lab is approaching completion.  We anticipate receiving permission to begin using these spaces sometime tomorrow, 8/11/06, although minor punch list items may still remain.
  • In the MEB Lecture Room A, the contractor is pushing to complete the remaining repair work.
    • The remaining acoustic wall paper and the trim has been installed. 
    • The electricians are running the electrical and data connections to the individual table top locations.
    • The podium still needs to be connected to the network.
  • Elevator #1 in the Resource Center is back in operation, following repairs completed today.  (This was an elevator previously certified, but that had been out of service for some time.)
    • The contractor is also working on correcting electrical problems in Elevator #4.  Once these problems are resolved, the elevator will be certified for regular use. 
  • Problems have developed in the testing and operation of the newly installed temporary chiller at the Dental School. The contractor is trouble-shooting the condenser water pumps and the chilled water pumps to determine what additional repairs may be needed.  Chiller programming and balancing has been delayed until the condenser pumps & chilled water pump problems are corrected.  Additional work at the Dental School  includes the following:
    • The contractor is trouble-shooting the loading dock ramp flood gate to determine what needs to be repaired in order to make it operational. 
    • The architects and engineers are working on the design for the repairs to the adjacent flood walls.
    • Leak testing continues for the ice water system.
  • The work on the temporary electrical and mechanical repairs at 1542 Tulane is proceeding well.
    • The two chiller pumps have been rebuilt and reinstalled.
    • The new building switch gear is expected to be delivered to the site next Monday.
    • The new wiring was delivered yesterday.
    • The damaged electrical panels have been gutted and cleaned.  They are now ready for the new wiring to be installed and connected.
    • The contractor is positioned to begin to restore power to the building.
  • In the Central Utility Plant on the downtown campus, the variable speed drive and filters are on order.  The necessary valves are ready to be replaced.
  • A contract to add new lighting to various Student Parking Lots has been awarded.  We anticipate that the contract documents will be signed and returned within the next week to 10 days.  At that time, the work can begin and demolition will start.

  • The work in the MEB Lecture Room B is being completed, so that it will be ready for the 1st year Medical students tomorrow as scheduled. 
    • The room was cleaned and dusted today.   
    • The A/V equipment is being tested late this afternoon and this evening.
    • The network connections to the individual table top locations will be completed early next week.
  • In Lecture Room A, the contractor installed additional acoustic wall paper, however additional wall paper must still be installed to complete that part of the project.
  • The installation of the new casework, counter tops, and related plumbing fixtures continues in the Gross Anatomy Lab and Swing Lab.  The contractor plans to work until approximately 9:00 PM tonight. They project that the installation should be complete by Friday, 8/11. 
  • The temporary repairs to the Dental School Clinic and Administration buildings continue. 
    • The ice water system installation is complete and it is being tested for leaks. 
    • The manufacturer of the temporary chiller is planning to have a training class this week on its operation.  This will allow them to turn over operation of the chiller.

  • The installation of the casework, countertops and related plumbing fixtures in the MEB Gross Anatomy Lab and Swing Lab is proceeding rapidly. 
    • LSUHSC Facilities staff installed new shut off valves at each sink location over the weekend.
  • The majority of the work in the MEB Lecture Room B has been completed.  The architects are preparing the punch list for work that remains.  Since a number of the punch list items are not critical for use of the space, it is anticipated that this room may be available to accommodate the 1st year Medical students as they begin class on Thursday morning, 8/10/06.  The completion of the punch list will be coordinated around the scheduled use of the space.
    • Temporary white boards have been provided for use until the new boards are delivered.  They are currently scheduled to arrive at the end of the month.
  • The contractor is connecting all of the new electrical and network wiring to the table tops in Lecture Room A.  The contractor is also working to finish the installation of the table tops.  The seats have been delivered but not yet been installed, so that access to the wiring channels under the table tops is easier.  We are monitoring progress closely in hopes that this room can be made available within the next two weeks.
    • Additional acoustic wallpaper is to be delivered and installed soon.
    • The audio/visual sub-contractor has some problems to diagnose and resolve at the podium.
  • The air handling unit supplying the 2nd floor lobby in the MEB is operational.  The reheat valves still need to be piped and insulated.
  • The temporary chiller at the Dental School was started up today so that the existing cooling tower could be tested. 
    • The east side of the cooling tower is operating with only minimal repairs required.
    • The west side of the tower will require some repairs to the controller which are being assessed at this time.
  • The contractor making repairs to the electrical and mechanical systems at 1542 Tulane Ave. is tracing wires and stripping the beakers out of electrical panels, preparing the panels for reuse.
    • The first half of the 13.8 KW building switchgear has been demolished

  • NOTICE: We need to have an emergency shutdown of the domestic hot and cold water for the entire MEB starting at 5:30 PM this evening, August 7th and lasting until midnight. We have a leak that must be repaired immediately and there is no local shutoff valve.  This outage only affects the domestic water – hot and cold.  This means that there will be no water at any sinks, showers or toilets in the entire MEB while the water is off.  Walk-in coolers will be checked to make sure that they stay on line the entire time. 
  • The casework for the Gross Anatomy and Swing Labs was delivered to the site today.  The installation will begin immediately. 
  • The contractor at the Dental School is taping and floating the drywall for the walls of the new switchgear room.  The air compressor is also ready to operate.
  • The new air handling unit for MEB second floor lobby is being tested and balanced.

  • NOTICE: The domestic hot and cold water for the entire MEB needs to be shut down from 5:30 PM to 12:00 AM this evening (Friday, August 4th) to replace several leaking shut-off valves.  This outage only affects the domestic water in the building – both hot and cold water.  This means that there will be no water at any sinks, showers or toilets in the entire MEB while the water is off.  Walk-in coolers will be checked to make sure that they stay on line the entire time. 
  • The new casework that will be installed in the Morgue, the Gross Anatomy and Swing Labs is now scheduled to arrive next Tuesday, 8/8.  Installation will begin immediately upon receipt of the casework.
  • The contractor making repairs to the pumps at the Central Utility Plant has received approval on the parts that he intends to order.  The rebuilding process and the ordering of parts will begin next week. 
  • In Lecture Room A at the MEB, the holes for the table top data and power connection spheres are being drilled and the table tops are being installed. 
  • In Lecture Room B, the remaining data and power connections are being wired on the replacement table tops.
  • The contractor is running the hot water lines to the supply on the new air handling unit in the MEB.
  • The medical vacuum system in the MEB is operating; however the repaired system has leaks.  The plumbers are searching for the leaks in the labs.
  • At 1542 Tulane Ave. approximately half of the building pumps have been removed and are in the shop being rebuilt.  The other half will follow shortly. The pumps include sump pumps, city water pumps, chill water pumps, and heating water pumps from the basement.

  • Work continues in restoring the two large Lecture Rooms in the MEB.
    • In Lecture Room B, all of the table tops have been installed. 
    • The last 18 of the table top data ports and outlets in Lecture Room B are ready to be wired.
    • Three of the modesty panels for Lecture Room B have not been delivered and they are being tracked at this time.  They will be installed when delivered.
    • The majority of the table tops for Lecture Room A have been delivered, but have not been installed at this time. 
    • There are some damaged table tops and modesty panels in the shipment intended for Lecture Room A.  They are usable and will be installed initially so that the room can be utilized quickly.  They will be replaced at a later date when the new parts have been received.
    • The controls on the podiums for the projectors have some technical problems that the audio/visual sub-contractor is working on.
  • The updates on the work in the Morgue, Gross and Swing Labs are as follows: 
    • The metal casework did not arrive today as scheduled.  The revised delivery date is tomorrow.  The installation will begin as soon as they are delivered.
    • The Morgue floor has two cracks in Cooler B.  The cracking is most likely due to the shrinking of the underlying concrete floor as the temperature in the cooler dropped, once it was turned on.  The design team and contractor are assessing the problem and developing a plan for correcting the issue.
  • The contractor making permanent window repairs to the downtown campus is progressing well.  46 windows around the CSRB and the Lion’s/LSU Clinic building have been replaced so far.  All of the replacement windows have been received.  The contractor needs to build additional staging and must also secure a second lift that will give access to the windows located high on the buildings.
  • The contractor making temporary repairs at 1542 Tulane continues to dismantle the old switchgear in the basement.  In addition, the pumps and motors that are to be rebuilt or replaced have been removed and the parts required are on order.

  • REMINDER: The domestic hot and cold water for the 6th floor of the CSRB will be shut down from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM this evening.  This outage only affects the domestic water – hot and cold.  This means that there will be no water at any sinks, showers or toilets on the 6th floor of the CSRB while the water is off.
  • The new projector has been installed in the MEB Lecture Room A.  The new podium in the room has been wired for video and audio (for the podium mounted microphone and PC only.)
  • In Lecture Room B, the new podium has also been wired for video and audio.
  • The hot water pipes that supply the new air handling unit for the MEB have been connected to the building.  They are not yet insulated.  The supply duct work has also been connected to the building.
  • The contractor continues to dismantle the old switch gear in the basement of 1542 Tulane Ave.

  • Progress at the Dental School continues.
    • The contractor is insulating the pipes for the temporary chiller.
    • Additional piping is being run in the basement to connect the chiller to the buildings’ air handling units.
    • The stud walls for the new switch gear (required by code) have been completed.
    • The installation of the building fire pumps has been finished.
    • The elevator contractor has been able to get temporary repairs made to three of the elevators.  These repairs are not sufficient to get the elevators certified for use, but they will allow the contractor to operate selected elevators occasionally when critical needs are present.  Normal access to the upper floors by faculty and staff will continue to be via the stairwells.
  • Approximately 40% of the new table tops for Lecture Room A in the MEB were delivered today.  12 of the table tops were damaged in shipment.  The installation hardware for the table tops has not been delivered.
  • In Lecture Room B, the errors discovered during testing of the new network connections to the table tops have been corrected.
  • The installation of the remaining acoustic wallpaper and trim in Lecture Room B has been completed.
  • A portion of the new casework for the Morgue, the Gross and Swing Labs arrived today.  Installation will begin shortly.
  • The temporary building repairs at 1542 Tulane Ave. continue.
    • The contractor is dismantling the old switch gear so that it can be removed.
    • One of the temporary sump pumps (installed by LSUHSC after the disaster to control ground water intrusion in the basement) burned out.  This slowed the contractor, as approximately 6 inches of water had built up in the basement after the recent rains.
    • The sump pump will be replaced by LSUHSC Facilities staff.  Temporary power will be provided that will allow the temporary sump pumps to operate 24 hours a day.

  • The domestic hot and cold water for the 6th floor of the CSRB needs to be shut down from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 2nd.  This outage only affects the domestic water – hot and cold.  This means that there will be no water at any sinks, showers or toilets on the 6th floor of the CSRB while the water is off.  A mass email has been sent out with the details regarding this outage.
  • Work continues in the two large Lecture Rooms in the MEB: 
    • The new network/data lines were tested over the weekend and finished up today. Errors that were found are being corrected at this time. 
    • In Lecture Hall A, the remaining acoustic wallpaper was installed.
    • The compressors for the Morgue cooler are online and working properly.   They will be run for the next several days to insure that no undiscovered damage exists. 
    • The controls for the new air handling unit are being installed. 
  • The contractor responsible for temporary electrical and mechanical repairs at 1542 Tulane are setting up temporary work lights and breaker panels that will facilitate their work. 
  • The installation of the temporary chiller at the Dental School continues. 
    • Additional testing and evaluation of the existing cooling towers is required to determine if they can serve the temporary chillers or if repairs are required.

  • The work on completing the repair work in the MEB Morgue, Gross & Swing Labs, and the two large Lecture Rooms continues.  Here is a detailed status on the progress and current projections:
    • The two new podiums for the Lecture Rooms have been delivered and installed.
    • The seats and tabletops for Lecture Room A, and replacement tabletops for Lecture Room B shipped today. They are expected to arrive on Tuesday, 8/1.  Installation will begin immediately. 
    • The new marker boards for the Lecture Rooms are scheduled to ship on August 28th.   We will be working with the architects to see if an alternative can be identified that can be delivered and installed sooner.  
    • The audio/visual sub-contractor will return to complete their installation work on Thursday, 8/3.  At that time, they will install the last projector and wire both of the new podiums.
    • The last roll of acoustic wallpaper has arrived and it will be installed early next week. 
    • The casework for the Morgue, the Gross Lab, and the Swing Lab is shipping from the manufacturer in Wisconsin on Friday, 8/4.
    • The countertops for the new casework were projected to ship from Texas today and should arrive on Monday, 7/31.
    • The new faucets for the labs shipped yesterday and will be delivered on Monday 7/31.
  • The two contractors making temporary repairs to the Dental School are nearing substantial completion of their work.  The architects were on site today to inspect the work and develop punch lists for both contractors. 
    • The State Fire Marshal has made a preliminary inspection and has identified specific items that still need to be addressed.  The architects are developing solutions that will address the items that have been noted.
    • The specifications are being developed for the environmental remediation work in the upper floors of the Clinic and Administration buildings.

  • The exhaust fans have been installed on the roof of the Dental School. 
  • The contractor making the temporary repairs to 1542 Tulane’s electrical and mechanical systems continued the preliminary work, while waiting for the necessary parts and materials to be delivered.   
  • In the MEB, the contractor has completed the installation of the modesty panels and is securing the power legs to the seating in Lecture Room B.  The step lights have also been installed.
  • In the MEB 3rd Floor Seminar rooms, the wrong types of motion detectors controlling lighting were installed as part of the upgrades to the rooms.  LSUHSC Facilities and Property staff will be replacing those with the proper sensors as rapidly as possible.

  • Dental School repairs continue: 
    • The contractor is working on the water softener piping.  They are removing the old pump and gauges.
    • They are continuing to work on the condenser water piping for the two new chillers. 
    • Lighting for the loading dock has been installed. 
    • The framing for the room to contain the temporary switchgear is complete.
    • The contractor is working on the wet vac system; fabricating pipes for the connection to the building system. 
    • Demolition of the old switchgear is approximately 90% complete. 
    • New concrete pads were poured for the ice water machines.  (It was discovered that the casing for the machines was larger than the specifications indicated.)
    • The sump pumps were tested for proper operation of their controls. 
    • The elevator contractor is installing new rollers on the Clinic Building elevators.
  • In the MEB, work continued in the large Lecture Rooms and the Morgue: 
    • The modesty panels are being installed on the tables in Lecture Room B.
    • In Lecture Room B, the contractor is also connecting all of the data cables that run to the individual table tops to the panel in the back of the room. 
    • The new projector screen has been installed in Lecture Room A. 
    • The chilled water piping that supplies the new air handling unit is being insulated. 
    • The application of the 2nd epoxy coating to the Morgue floor was completed yesterday.  The coating must cure for 24 hours, so it can be walked on by Thursday morning.
    • The casework for the Morgue, the Gross Lab and the Swing Lab will be delivered tomorrow.  Installation will begin immediately.

  • The contractor is finishing the application of the additional epoxy coating to the Morgue floor in the MEB.  It will have to cure for 24 hours before the installation of new casework can begin. 
  • The new projector screen for Lecture Room A has arrived and will be installed soon. 
  • The speakers for Lecture Room A have been installed and connected. 
  • The new network cables have been run to approximately 70% of the table tops in Lecture Room B. 
  • The new air handling unit that serves 2nd floor lobby area has been set in place and the piping is underway.  The old pipes have been removed.
  • The environmental remediation contractor is packing up their equipment at 1542 Tulane Ave., and the contractor responsible for making temporary repairs to the building’s electrical and mechanical systems is mobilizing.
  • The freight elevator at the Resource Center did not pass the inspection of the State Elevator Inspector.  We are waiting on his report to see what specific issues need to be addressed.

  • The permanent repair to windows on the downtown campus has begun.  The replacement glass systems have arrived and the contractor has installed approximately 12 windows at CSRB.
  • The environmental remediation work is substantially complete at 1542 Tulane Ave.  Test results are expected in the near future that will tell us if any re-cleaning is required.
  • At the Dental School, the temporary repair work continues:
    • Chiller #1 condenser water line being piped. 
    • The chilled water piping for Chiller #1 and Chiller #2 is complete.  Leak testing underway. 
    • Ice water machines and the filters were delivered today and the installation will begin shortly.
    • The wet vacuum system is being piped. 
    • The hot water heaters are now connected to both steam and domestic hot water – testing is to be done later this week if Entergy resolves an issue with the natural gas at the campus. 
  • The elevator contractor for the Dental School has started replacing switches.

  • Dental School repairs continue:
    • The chilled water is now connected to Chiller #1.  Work continues on the chilled water connection to Chiller #2. 
    • The elevator contractor is aggressively working on the elevators in the building.
    • The domestic hot water heater has been piped to the building systems.
  • The work in the MDL has been completed and is waiting on final inspection.
  • The repair work in the Morgue is continuing:
    • A new, epoxy floor that will tolerate the high chemical concentrations will be installed on Tuesday, 7/24.
    • The new casework will be installed on Wednesday, 7/26.
    • The new countertops are to be installed on the casework on Thursday, 7/27.
    • Spare compressors for the Morgue cooler are on order.
  • Gross Lab repairs are progressing well:
    • The new casework is due to be delivered on Monday, 7/24 and installation will begin immediately. 
    • The new countertops will be installed on Thursday, 7/27. 
  • Work in the two large Lecture Rooms in the MEB continues to move forward:
    • The new projection screen for Lecture Room A is due to be delivered and installed on Tuesday, 7/25.
    • The contractor is waiting on a roll of acoustic wallpaper to finish the remainder of the wall that is to be covered in Lecture Room A. 
    • Lecture Room B still needs the trim to be installed around the acoustic wallpaper. 
    • Wiring and table top installation continues in both of the lecture halls.
  • The environmental remediation at 1542 Tulane Ave. is moving towards completion: 
    • The 1st floor cleaning work is complete.   
    • The contractor who is making temporary repairs to the building electrical and mechanical systems can now access the basement.
  • REMINDER: In order to connect the replacement air conditioning unit that serves the 2nd floor of the MEB, a chilled water outage will be needed.  This outage will take place on Saturday, July 22nd from 5:00 AM until 5:00 PM. This air conditioning outage would affect the entire MEB for the 12 hour duration.

  • NOTICE: In order to connect the replacement air conditioning unit that serves the 2nd floor of the MEB, a chilled water outage will be needed.  This outage will take place on Saturday, July 22nd from 5:00 AM until 5:00 PM. This air conditioning outage will affect the entire MEB for the 12 hour duration of the planned work.
  • The contractor making repairs in the MEB Lecture Rooms is beginning to run the electrical and network wiring to the installed pedestals and table tops in Lecture Room B.  As part of this task, they are coordinating the routing of the network cabling to the cabinets and securing them.
  • Another contractor responsible for the presentation equipment is wiring the new projectors that were installed in Lecture Room B yesterday.
  • In Lecture Room A, the acoustic wallpaper is being installed. 
  • At 1542 Tulane Ave., the environmental remediation contractor is working to complete the cleaning on the first floor and in the basement.

  • The contractors making temporary repairs to the Dental School continue to make progress. 
    • The fire alarm system is installed and has been inspected.  We need a telephone line so that fire alarm system can dial out.
    • One of the temporary chillers is piped into the building.
    • The hot water heater has been connected to the hot water line.
  • Repairs to the two large Lecture Halls in the MEB are progressing. 
    • The table tops have arrived and the installation has begun in Lecture Room B.
    • The wiring of the table tops with the electrical and network wiring is being coordinated with the installation progress.
    • The projectors in Lecture Room B are now installed and will be wired tomorrow.
    • The speakers in Lecture Room B were also installed today.
  • The air handling unit that serves the Lecture Rooms has arrived and has been set in place. 
  • In the Morgue, the floor drain for the emergency shower has been installed and grouted in place.
  • The environmental remediation at 1542 Tulane is continuing. 
    • The basement walls that were scheduled for demolition have been demolished, with the exception of a few wood studs that still remain.
    • The debris from the demolition in the basement is almost completely removed.  All of the hazardous material has been removed.
    • Cleaning on the first floor continues.

  • MEB Lecture Rooms:
    • The new screen was hung in Lecture Room B today.
    • The installation of the acoustic wallpaper is approximately 90% complete.
    • The network cabling has been pulled to the all of the seat/table pedestals in Lecture Room B and to about 10% of the pedestals in Lecture Room A.
  • The caulking of the floor to wall joints in the MDL has been completed.
  • The installation issues with the new projection screens in the MEB 3rd floor Seminar Rooms are being addressed by the contractor at this time. 
  • The environmental remediation work at 1542 Tulane is beginning to wind down. 
    • All of the initial cleaning of the upper floors and the duct work (Floors 2 through 8) has been completed. 
    • Test results have indicated that a few rooms require re-cleaning and retesting.  This work is underway and we expect the next set of results to come back within a week or so.
    • The cleaning of the 1st floor and basement continues and is anticipated to be finished by the end of this week.  Testing will then be required to determine if any re-cleaning may be necessary.

  • The new epoxy floor coatings were applied to the Morgue and the Gross Anatomy Lab floors as scheduled over the past weekend.  The final sealant was applied to the Gross Anatomy Lab floor today.
    • An additional vinyl coating will be applied to the floor in the Morgue to provide additional protection from certain chemicals that are more prevalent there.
  • The exchange of the steam distribution values in the MEB was completed successfully over the weekend.   Domestic hot water and steam was restored to the building late on Saturday.
  • The installation of the new vinyl wallpaper in the rear of the two large Lecture Halls in the MEB is now substantially complete.  Work has begun on the application of the acoustic wallpaper on the side walls of Lecture Room B.
  • The installation of the new carpeting in Lecture Room A has been finished.
  • All of the new seat/table pedestals have been installed in Lecture Room B and the work is approximately 20% complete in Lecture Room A. 
  • The installation of the projector platforms and supports also began in the MEB Lecture Rooms today.
  • The contractor at the Dental School has begun fire sealing all of the floor/ceiling penetrations caused by the new temporary switchgear conduit.  The hot water heater has been piped to the mixing valve, and the elevator contractor is removing damaged parts and completing their evaluation of the damage.
  • The environmental remediation contractor continues working at 1542 Tulane Ave.  The cleaning in the basement is 90% complete and the 2nd floor cleaning is finished.  The 1st floor will be complete by the end of this week.

  • Reminder:  The boilers in the MEB will be shut down at 5:00 PM on Friday, July 14th so that the building steam distribution valves can be changed out early Saturday morning.  The steam will be shut off at 5:00 PM on Friday, July 14th and turned back on at about 6:00 PM on Saturday, July 15th.  From Friday, July 14th at 5:00 PM until Saturday, July 15th at 6:00 PM, the MEB domestic hot water will not be hot, and the steam serving the autoclaves in the MEB and in the CSRB on Floors 3-7 will be off.
  • The MDL repairs in the MEB are largely completed.  The contractor needs to caulk the joint between the new tile floor and the walls and the tile floor needs to be waxed. 
  • The epoxy flooring will be installed over the weekend in the Gross Anatomy Lab, the Swing Lab and the Morgue.
    • An additional vinyl coating may be required in the Morgue to provide additional protection from higher concentrations of certain chemicals.
  • The new casework for the Gross Anatomy Lab, the Swing Lab and the Morgue should be delivered to the site on Monday and installation will begin then.  The contractor will also install the emergency shower in the Morgue at the same time that the casework is installed.
  • Progress continues in the two Large Lecture Rooms in the MEB.
    • Carpet is complete in Lecture Room B and almost complete in Lecture Room A.
    • The pedestals to support the seating and table tops have been delivered. 
      • The installation of the pedestals is 95+% complete in Lecture Room B. 
      • The installation had not started in Lecture Room A, while the carpet installers finished.
    • The installation of the vinyl wallpaper is approximately 50% in “B”.
    • The network cable has been pulled and bundled beneath the floor in “B”.
    • The electrical wiring has been pulled in both “A” and “B” and it is ready to be run to the table tops when they have been installed.
    • The installation of the new presentation equipment will begin next week.
  • The contractors continue to progress in completing the temporary repairs to the Dental School.
    • The piping of the chiller is approximately 50% complete. 
    • The air compressors have been piped in and the electrical connections are completed.  The controls need to be programmed and the air dryers need to be tied into the system.
    • The deionized water system has been piped in to the building and the electrical connections are complete.
    • The ice water system and wet vacuum system are scheduled to be installed next week.

  • The floors in the Gross Labs are also being sanded in preparation for the epoxy coating.  The bottoms of the block walls in the Gross Labs are being prepared to receive the epoxy coating that will serve as “baseboards”.  The contractor is painting the repaired sheetrock.
  • The ceiling tile installation in the MDL has been finished.
  • The environmental remediation contractor is removing debris from the basement at 1542 Tulane.  They should be finished by the end of next week, which will allow another contractor begin work on the temporary repairs to the building’s electrical system.
  • The contractors making temporary repairs to the Dental School Clinic and Administration buildings are continuing to make good progress.
    • The temporary chillers are now connected to building power.
    • The Dry Vac has been delivered and installed.
    • The Wet Vac system has been delivered and set in place (vacuum producer, tank, & pumps).   The connections to the building systems will be made shortly.
    • Sump pump covers have been installed.
    • Boiler/Hot Water System:
      • Steam traps have been installed.
      • The expansion tank has been set in place, but needs to be piped-in.
      • Hot water heaters are connected to the building’s water supply, and they need to be piped to steam lines, hot water return lines, the expansion tank, & the mixing valve.

  • The temporary chillers for the Dental School Clinic and Administration Buildings arrived today and the installation has begun.
  • The installation of new carpet in the 1st of the two large Lecture Halls in the MEB is progressing well.  Approximately 75% of the carpet has been installed.
  • The initial delivery of parts for the replacement seating in the large MEB Lecture Halls arrived today.  Additional parts are needed before the installation can begin.
  • The mounting brackets for the new projector screens in the Lecture Halls have been installed.
  • The contactor continues to make progress in completing the new electrical wiring in the Lecture Halls.
  • The installation of new ceiling tile in the MDL’s was completed today.
  • The primer and base coat related to the epoxy floor system has been applied to the floors in the Morgue and Gross Anatomy Lab in the MEB.
  • The environmental remediation contractor continued their cleaning of the 1st and 2nd floors at 1542 Tulane Ave.  Access to the building remains restricted at this time.

  • Temporary repairs to the Dental School are continuing.
    • The hot water heaters are in place and being connected to the building plumbing.
    • The desiccant air dryer for medical air has been installed.
    • Some of the old black iron pipe is being replaced with copper to meet current codes. 
    • Sump pumps are in place and connected.
  • The environmental remediation at 1542 Tulane also continues to progress. 
    • The demolition of the flood damaged walls in the basement continues.   We estimate that the work is about 90% complete.
    • Insulation in one of the basement walls being demolished is being tested for asbestos.
  • Following the installation of new floor tile in the Residence Hall, the contractor is completing the installation of new door stops and thresholds.   
  • The installation of new carpeting in the two large Lecture Halls at the MEB has begun. 
  • Floor preparations for the application of the new epoxy surface continued today in the MEB Gross Lab and Morgue. 
  • The installation of replacement ceiling tile in the MDL is approximately 50% complete.
  • The contractor has begun the installation of new projector supports in the two large Lecture Halls at the MEB.

  • The last of the work required to replace the damaged electrical feeders at the CSRB was completed over the weekend. 
  • The environmental remediation contractor working at 1542 Tulane is completing the cleaning of the spaces on the 1st and 2nd floors.   They are also cleaning the ducts on the 1st floor and the majority of the flood damaged walls in the basement have been demolished.
  • The floors in the Gross Anatomy Lab are being prepared for the application of the new epoxy floor surface.

  • Reminder:  The CSRB will experience additional power outages as the 2nd half of the electrical feeders are replaced over the weekend.  Work is beginning this evening.  Further, to protect the network equipment, all switches and UPS’s in the CSRB will be turned off at 5:15 PM today and turned back on no later than  4:00 PM Saturday.  Network connectivity to and from the CRSB will be unavailable between 5:15 PM on 7/7/2006 and 4:00pm on 7/8/2006.
  • Work on completing the selective, permanent repairs in the MEB continues.
    • MEB Lecture Halls – The doors and related hardware have been installed.
    • The installation of the new floor tile in the MDL is now complete.
    • The ceiling tile in the Gross Lab has been installed.
    • The floor of the 1st floor air handler unit room in the MEB has been painted.    
    • The return air grills for the MEB Seminar Rooms have been received and approximately 60% of them have been installed. 
  • The environmental remediation contractor is finishing up the cleaning of the 2nd and 3rd floors at 1542 Tulane.  The cleaning of the duct work on 1st floor continues and the basement has approximately 40% of the flood damaged walls removed.
  • The installation of wireless network connections in the MEB Seminar Rooms on the 3rd floor has been completed and the system tested.

  • Dental School recovery work.  The two contractors are continuing to accomplish a great deal of work and most of the major objectives have been completed:
    • The emergency generator is in place.
    • The new, temporary fire walls that have been built on the 1st floor have been painted. 
    • The fan coil air units have been installed and are being piped.
    • The elevator pits have been pumped out and are being accessed by the elevator repair contractor. 
  • The environmental remediation contractor received clearance for the entire basement at 1542 Tulane following the completion of the asbestos abatement work.  They are now completing the other remediation & cleaning work in the basement, including the demolition of flood damaged walls.
  • The replacement doors and hardware for the two large lecture rooms in the MEB have been delivered.  Installation should begin soon.
  • A new exhaust fan has been purchased and installed on the roof of the Resource Center.
  • On Friday, July 7th, we will be testing the automatic transfer switches for the elevators at the MEB, CSRB and the AH/Nursing building.  This will entail retesting the emergency generators at each of these buildings.  The schedule is as follows:
    • Medical Education Building               5:30 PM
    • Allied Health / Nursing Bldg.             6:30 PM
    • Clinical Sciences Research Bldg.        7:30 PM
    • The test will affect operation of the elevators in the MEB, CSRB, and Nursing/Allied Health.  In addition, lights and power may go out for a short time - 15 minutes intervals or less.

    • As noted last week, the replacement of the CSRB riser feeders that serve the Perdido side of the building was completed during the last outage – June 23rd and 24th.  The B riser which serves the opposite side of the building - the half closest to the Lion’s Eye Building, will be done this weekend, July 7th and 8th.  This work will entail several complete power outages, each less than one hour in duration. Other than the times of complete power outage, the air conditioning, ventilation and emergency power will be available.  During the process, lights on the Lion’s Eye building side will be off as well as normal power (receptacles).  A mass email has been distributed with additional information regarding specifics of the scheduled outages.
    • The environmental remediation contractor is completing the wipe-down of the 2nd floor and starting on the cleaning of the A/C ducts on the 1st floor at 1542 Tulane.  Demolishing of the non-structural walls in the basement that were damaged by flood waters began today.
    • The repairs to the two large lecture halls, the Multidisciplinary Labs, the Gross Lab and the Morgue in the MEB continue.
      • The tile floor in the Multidisciplinary Lab is to be completed today.
      • The replacement of the ceiling tile in the Gross Lab is almost complete.
      • The application of the new epoxy floors in the Gross Lab and the Morgue will start next week.
      • The new projection screens for the two large lecture halls have arrived.  Installation should begin shortly.
      • The painting of the new sheetrock in the two large lecture halls is approximately 75% complete.
    • The installation of new flooring in the cabs of the passenger elevators has been completed in the MEB, the Nursing/Allied Health Building and the Residence Hall “B” and “C” towers.

    • The contractor began painting the walls in the two large lecture halls in the MEB today.
    • The temporary power to the P-3 lab at 1542 Tulane Ave. is connected and is energized.  The lab now has stable power.  When the project to provide temporary power to the entire building is completed, the P-3 lab will be switched back over to the building power.
    • The control air compressor for the MEB has been delivered and will be installed soon.

    • The new exhaust fan for the Resource Center has been delivered and is on the roof.  It will be installed shortly. 
    • The temporary power for the P-3 lab at 1542 Tulane Ave. is connected but not yet energized.

    • Bids have been received, evaluated and a contract is being awarded for additional repairs to the chilled water pump and related mechanical/electrical components in the Central Utility Plant.  These additional repairs will insure that we have sufficient chilled water capacity for the hottest summer months and also have a redundant pumping system should one fail or require repairs.
    • The environmental remediation contractor continues cleaning on the 2nd floor of 1542 Tulane.  Post-cleaning testing and monitoring results are starting to come in and generally look good.  There were four small areas on the 5th and 7th floors that require re-cleaning.
    • The priming of the new sheetrock in the two large lecture rooms in the MEB has begun.

    • The contractor has finished taping and floating the new sheetrock that was installed in the two large MEB Lecture Rooms.
    • Due to commitments at the Superdome, the State Elevator Inspector was unable to conduct the inspections on the 2 remaining elevators at the Nursing/Allied Health Building as originally planned.  He will contact our elevator contractor when he is available and reschedule the inspections.
    • The installation of new sub-flooring is complete in all but one of the elevators in the Lion’s/LSU Clinic Building.  The one remaining elevator will have its sub-floor replaced tomorrow.   
    • The freight elevator and the animal care elevators in the MEB must also have their sub-floors replaced.  That work will occur tomorrow or Thursday.  Those two elevators will be unavailable for use while the work is completed.

    • The replacement of the CSRB riser feeders that serve the Perdido side of the building were completed over the weekend without any problems or complications.  This completed the work on the “A” riser.   The replacement of the riser feeders on the Lion’s side of the building (the “B” riser) remain to be done.  This work will be coordinated and scheduled in advance and the time(s) will be announced prior to the work being started.
    • The contractor responsible for providing temporary electrical power to the P3 lab at 1542 Tulane will complete their work today.
    • The environmental remediation contractor has finished the cleaning of the basement at 1542 Tulane.  We are now waiting for the test results to come back.  The cleaning work began on the 2nd floor this morning.
    • The elevator pits at the Dental School Clinic and Administration buildings were pumped out this weekend.

    • Reminder:  The environmental remediation contractor will stage their equipment for cleaning on the 2nd floor of 1542 Tulane on Saturday, June 24th.  Cleaning will begin on Monday, June 26th.  At that time, all access to the entire building will end until the cleaning of the building is complete and the subsequent testing clears the spaces for occupancy. 
    • Reminder:  As noted before, the replacement of the CSRB riser feeders that serve the Perdido side of the building will be completed this weekend, June 23rd and 24th. This work will entail several complete power outages, each less than one hour in duration. Other than the times of complete power outage, the air conditioning, ventilation and emergency power will be available.  Please see the email transmitted this afternoon for the specific times of planned outages.     • The temporary domestic water pump is currently being installed at the Dental School.

    • The environmental remediation contractor will stage their equipment for cleaning on the 2nd floor of 1542 Tulane on Saturday, June 24th.  Cleaning will begin on Monday, June 26th.  At that time, all access to the 2nd floor will end until the cleaning of the building is complete and the subsequent testing clears the spaces for occupancy.  We recommend that all critical items, files, etc. be removed from the 2nd floor tomorrow.
    • The environmental remediation contractor is also making excellent progress in the basement at 1542 Tulane.  The cleaning should be completed next week; perhaps as early as Monday. 
    • The replacement of selected carpeting in Allied Health spaces is almost completed.  A single room on the 9th floor remains to be done.   
    • The taping and floating of the new sheetrock in the two large Lecture Rooms (A & B) in the MEB is approximately 98% complete. 
    • A contract to provide temporary electrical power to the P-3 Lab at 1542 Tulane is progressing.  The disconnect box is installed and conduit is being run from Charity Hospital to carry the wires.

    • The remediation contractor will need exclusive use of the Lakeside Lot for a few days.  This lot will be closed to everyone except the contractor, Zimmer-Eschete, from Thursday morning, June 22nd, until Tuesday morning, June 27th.  
    • The test of the Nursing/Allied Health emergency generator was completed yesterday evening.  The generator test was successful, but the transfer switch that sends emergency power to the elevators failed to operate properly.  Adjustments will be made and a 2nd test of the transfer switch will be scheduled. 
    • The power outage schedule for the Dental School last night to allow for the change the fuses in the switchgear that serve the temporary chillers was completed successfully.

    • The problems with the high pressure medical air system at the MEB have been resolved.  Both high and low pressure medical air is now available to the building. 
    • The second of the two city water pumps has been installed at the Nursing/Allied Health Building. 
    • The replacement of carpet in selected areas of Allied Health began today.
    • The taping and floating of the newly installed sheetrock in the two large lecture halls in the MEB is well underway. 
    • The contractor began replacement of the damaged ceiling tiles in the Gross Anatomy Lab today.
    • Repairs to the freight elevators in both the Nursing/Allied Health Building and the Resource Center are complete.  The State Elevator Inspector is scheduled to conduct the inspections on Monday, June 26th. 
    • Temporary repairs to the Dental School Clinic and Administration Buildings continue:
      • The fire pump has been installed and successfully tested. 
      • The heating hot water pump installation is complete and the installation of the heat exchangers has also been finished.
      • The floor drains in the pump room and the temporary switchgear room have been cleared of all debris and are free flowing.
      • There is a power shutdown scheduled for this evening to change the fuses in the switchgear that serve the temporary chillers.

    • There will be a test of the emergency generator for the Allied Health/Nursing building on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 5:30 PM.   During the test, the building's elevators will be without normal power for about fifteen minutes. 
    • The progress on temporary repairs to the Dental School continues: 
      • The switchgear installation is complete and it is connected to Entergy New Orleans electrical power.  
      • 2 of the 4 sump pumps have been delivered and installation will now begin.
      • The installation of the heat exchanger is 80% complete and the installation of the hot water pumps is 90% complete. 
      • Work on the installation of temporary walls in the Clinic building is underway.  The walls have been erected and the sheetrock and doorframes are in place. Taping and floating of the sheetrock is to follow.  This task provides temporary walls to define egress on first floor.
    • Both of the large lecture halls in the MEB have all of the sheetrock installed.
    • At the CSRB, 2 of the 4 electrical feeders making up the “A” riser were replaced over the weekend.  The remaining work on this riser will be accomplished with an outage next weekend.  The details of that outage will be provided via email later in the week.

    • REMINDER: The replacement of the CSRB riser feeders that serve the Perdido Side of the building continues this weekend, June 16th and 17th. This work will entail several complete power outages, each less than one hour in duration.  In addition, the emergency generator testing for the Nursing/Allied Health Building will take place on Friday, June 16, at 5:30 pm.   During the test, the building will be without normal power for about fifteen minutes. 
    • The replacement of sheetrock in Lecture Room “A” in the MEB has been completed.
    • The de-ionized water systems are now working in both the MEB and the CSRB.  The CSRB system will have a 2nd pump installed to complete the repairs, so that the pumps can alternate their operations.  But the system is operating with the single pump at this time.
    • The testing of the two emergency generators at the Residence Hall was completed successfully today.
    • The 2nd domestic water pump in the Nursing/Allied Health Building has not yet been installed, but is on site and is expected to be installed soon.

    • There will be a total electrical outage at the CSRB on Friday, June 16, at 5:30 am which will last for approximately 30 minutes.  The emergency generator testing for the Nursing/Allied Health Building will take place on Friday, June 16, at 5:30 pm.   During the test, the building will be without normal power for about fifteen minutes.  Both of these outages are in addition to the outages previously announced. 
    • The medical air, vacuum and control air compressor have been delivered to the Dental School.  The air handling units for the basement and 1st floor have been mounted, and will be connected.
    • The pump for the de-ionized water system at the MEB has been temporarily repaired and the system is operational once again.  The new pump for the system has been delivered to the site.

    • PLEASE NOTE: The replacement of the CSRB riser feeders that serve the Perdido Side of the building continues this weekend, June 16th and 17th. This work will entail several complete power outages, each less than one hour in duration. Additional outages will follow on the next weekend, June 23rd and 24th, to complete the replacement of riser A feeders.  Other than the times of complete power outage, the air conditioning, ventilation and emergency power will be available.  A mass email has been distributed that includes details of the outages and schedules.
    • The CSRB medical air and vacuum pumps have been put back on line. Vacuum and medical air is now available for use in the building.
    • The Lion’s/LSU Clinic Building vacuum pump has also been put back on line. Vacuum is available for use.
    • The refurbished de-ionized water pump in the MEB has failed.  This has shut down the de-ionized water system in the MEB.  A contract to replace this flood damaged pump is in place, and we expect the de-ionized water system to be restored in the near future.
    • The replacement pump for the de-ionized water pump for the CSRB system is also on order and will be installed as soon as it is received.
    • The medical air (high pressure) system in the MEB is anticipated to have repairs completed late next week. 
    • The first of two new domestic water pumps went into operation at the Nursing/Allied Health Building. 
    • The elevators in the Lion’s/LSU Clinic Building are having their flood damaged floors replaced.
    • The environmental remediation contract was able to begin work again in the basement of 1542 Tulane after a power problem was solved.  They are also continuing their cleaning on Floors 1, 3, 4 and 5.
    • The contractor making repairs to the two large lecture rooms in the MEB has completed approximately 60% of the sheetrock in Lecture Room A.

    • The testing of the emergency generators at the Nursing/Allied Health Building and the MEB will take place on Wednesday, June 14, from 5:00 pm until 6:30 pm.   During the test, each building will be without normal power for approximately fifteen minutes. We will be testing the first floor and roof mounted generator at the MEB and the single emergency generator at the Nursing/Allied Health Building.
    • The emergency generator testing at the Residence Hall will take place on Friday, June 16, from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon.   There are two emergency generators to be tested, so the building will be without power for two separate 15 minute periods during the hour that the tests are scheduled. 
    • Temporary repairs to the Dental School Clinic and Administration Building continue. 
      • The riser pipes for the building sprinkler systems are connected and repaired.
      • The heating hot water pumps are connected.  The contractor is waiting on heat exchanger to be delivered.
      • The fire pump has been installed and it will be tested in the near future.
    • One of the two domestic water pumps in the Nursing/Allied Health Building has been connected.  Both sets of the related shut-off valves have been replaced, so the installation of the 2nd pump should not cause an interruption to the building’s water supply.
    • The environmental remediation contractor continues the cleaning on the 4th and 5th floors at 1542 Tulane.  They are also cleaning at the Central Utility Plant.
    • The contractor continues the installation of new sheetrock in the MEB’s Lecture Room “A”.
    • The carpeting contractor is working the punch list items in the 3rd floor Seminar Rooms at the MEB.  All of the chairs have been moved back into the rooms.

    • There will be a shutdown of the domestic water at the Allied Health/Nursing Building during the evening of June 12th, from 5:00 PM until Midnight. This means that none of the bathrooms or faucets in the building will be operational during this period of time.
    • The medical air & vacuum system has been tested and is operating in the MEB.
    • The installation of new sheetrock began in Lecture Room “A” at the MEB today.
    • The 1st floor doors for the Resource Center elevators have been replaced.
    • The majority of the planned enhancements to the 3rd floor seminar rooms in the MEB have been completed.  Chairs are being moved back into the rooms.  The installation of the wireless network is expected to be completed within the next two weeks.

    • NOTE:  The power outage at the CSRB scheduled for this weekend, Friday June 9th and Saturday June 10th has been cancelled and will need to be rescheduled.  The details will be communicated once the have been finalized.
    • The Campus Federal Credit Union has announced that it will begin full service operations once again at their 2nd Floor location in the Resource Center, starting Monday, June 12th.
    • The LSUHSC Library has also announced that it will reopen its facilities in the Resource Center on Monday, June 12th.
    • The vacuum pumps in the CSRB and the Lion’s/LSU Clinic were tested today.  The medical air pumps in the CSRB and the MEB were also tested.  The entire system (medical air, vacuum, etc.) will be tested in all three buildings on Monday. 
    • There are several items to report on the temporary repairs being made to the Dental School:
      • The temporary boiler is being connected to the building systems.
      • The platform for the air compressors is being set up in the power plant.
      • The condenser water pumps arrived and are being set in place.
      • Heating hot water pumps have arrived and are being set in place.
      • Electrical distribution panels for the basements are being mounted and installed.
    • The environmental remediation contractor began the duct cleaning on the 4th floor of 1542 Tulane.  Crews also began the general cleaning on the 5th floor.
    • The glass contractor for the downtown campus replaced the broken glass in the door leading to the walkway on the MEB side.  The various glass panels needed to replace the damaged panels have been ordered.  Due to the long lead times for many of these glass systems, they have also done some additional temporary repairs; taping up some windows and boarding up others.

    • The test of the emergency generator at the Lion’s/LSU Clinic Building scheduled for last night was completed successfully.
    • The test of the generator at the CSRB was successful in providing emergency power to the outlets and emergency lights.  There are two other transfer switches that need to have corrections made.  An additional test will be scheduled when that work is complete.
    • The emergency generator at the MEB has been reassembled and an initial test completed.  A voltage regulator was found to be bad and it will require replacement. 
    • The contractor responsible for the enhancements to the various seminar rooms on the 3rd floor of the MEB is largely completed with the work.  They are addressing the punch list items at this time.  
    • Repairs to the two large lecture rooms in the MEB continue.  The installation of sheetrock is approximately 80% completed in Lecture Room B. 
    • The environmental remediation contractor continues to make good progress at 1542 Tulane.  The cleaning is almost complete on the 6th floor and crews are working on the 1st floor.  Duct work is also being cleaned on the 5th floor.  However, work in the basement has been put on hold due to a power issue.

    We have many new online books and journals. If you are not a registered patron with a library barcode on your LSUHSC ID, please come by the library to register and get your barcode.

    • The medical air pump in the MEB and the medical air and vacuum pumps in the CSRB will be tested during the day tomorrow.   
    • In the Lion’s/LSU Clinic Building, the exhaust for the vacuum system and the intake for the medical air system require additional piping before the repairs are complete and the systems can be tested.
    • Various repairs to elevators across the campus continue. 
      • While the elevators in the MEB have been certified for use, there was water damage to the floors of the cars.  The contractor is replacing the floors in all of the elevators in that building.  The floors have been replaced in elevators #1, #2, #4, #6, and #7.  The floor in #8 will be replaced tomorrow.  The new tiles for the elevator floors will be installed within the next two weeks. 
      • The elevator cars in the Residence Hall have had their tile removed to allow for the subflooring to be inspected.  The elevators in Tower “B” and “C” will require new subfloors due to water damage that was sustained.  New tile will be installed after the subfloor has been replaced.
      • The replacement of subflooring in the elevators at the Nursing/Allied Health Building has been completed as required.  Elevators #1 and #6 require new tile to be installed.

      • The repaired emergency generators for the Lion’s/LSU Clinic and the CSRB will be load tested on Wednesday evening, June 7th.  The tests include flipping the emergency riser breakers to test the reaction of the emergency transfer switches and the emergency generator response.  If the generators and transfer switches operate normally, there will only be a ten second flick of the power. It will take about an hour to test each emergency generator and to move to the next one. The power will be out for only ten seconds for each building.  The test for the Lion’s/LSU Clinic generator will start at 5:00 PM, and the CSRB at 6:00 PM.
      • The newly installed medical air and vacuum pumps at the Lion’s/LSU Clinic and the CSRB were tested today.  Minor piping changes are required and will be completed soon. 
      • The MEB medical air pump was piped into the building system today.  The chilled water piping to the vacuum pump was also completed.
      • The deionized water systems in the CSRB and the MEB became operational today.  Pumps are still needed to distribute the water throughout the buildings. 
        • The MEB pump will be turned on and tested tomorrow.
        • The replacement pump for the CSRB is on order and has not been received at this time.
      • The new city water pumps for the Nursing/Allied Health Building have been delivered.  It is possible that these new pumps can be installed without a shut down of water in the building.  The feasibility of that option will be assessed tomorrow.  Should a shut down of building water be needed, it will be scheduled and coordinated in advance with the Schools of Nursing and Allied Health.
      • Work continues on the repairs to the two large lecture rooms in the MEB.  The wall insulation was installed in Lecture Room B and the new sheetrock was received.

      • The replacement of the air conditioning feeder at the CSRB on Saturday went faster than anticipated, allowing us to cancel the outage planned for Sunday, June 4th.  This completes the required work on the A/C feeder.  Additional outages will follow in the next several weekends to replace the riser feeders which service CSRB lighting and receptacles.  A mass email will be released later this week announcing this specific schedules and outages.
      • The vacuum pumps and medical air compressors have been installed and connected to the building systems at the Lion’s/LSU Clinic and the CSRB.  The testing of these systems will begin tomorrow. 
      • The damaged case work has been removed from the Gross Anatomy Lab and the Morgue.   
      • The temporary fire pump for the Dental School arrived today.  Installation will begin shortly.

      • All of the temporary building switch gear is in place and assembled in the Dental School basement.  The installation of the temporary electrical feeders to the switchgear is now underway.  This switch gear will supply temporary power to both the Clinic and Administration buildings when the work is completed.
      • The environmental remediation contractor is progressing well on the 3rd remediation contract:
        • At 1542 Tulane, work is complete on the 8th floor. 
        • The contractor now has crews working on both the 7th and 6th floors and the mechanical rooms on the 7th, 6th and 5th floors.  (Access to the building is currently restricted to Floors 2 through 4 at this time.) 
        • The required cleaning at the District Energy Garage is in progress.  The ramps in the garage were completed today.
      • The scheduled outage of building air conditioning at the CSRB has begun as planned.  This will allow for the replacement of the air conditioning electrical feeder.  Additional outages are scheduled throughout the weekend.   The text of John Ball’s mass email dated 6/1/06 is provided below and contains the specific plans for this weekend:
        •  Due to the recent disruption in power in the Clinical Sciences Research Building (CSRB), we are planning the following outages for this weekend.
          • Air conditioning and exhaust for Friday from 5 PM to 11 PM.
          • Total power outage for the Perdido side of CSRB for Saturday from 7 AM to 8 AM and again from 6 PM to 7 PM.
          • Air conditioning and exhaust for Saturday from 8 AM to 7 PM.
          • Air conditioning and exhaust on Sunday from 7 AM to 7 PM. 
        • Finally, around midday Sunday, we will have a one hour total power outage for the Perdido side of CSRB to do final connections.
        • This will complete work on this first feeder requiring replacement at the CSRB. Two additional feeder replacements will follow before we complete work on the CSRB.
        • Testing has shown that these CSRB feeders, which run from the switchgear to panels that feed electricity to critical functions, have sustained damage due to Hurricane Katrina.
      • LSUHSC Purchasing has located a source for the replacement exhaust fan needed for the Resource Center.  The specifications (capacity, accurate sizing, etc.) are being finalized and we expect to issue a purchase order for the fan on Monday.

      • The repairs to the damaged electrical feeders at the CSRB will continue on Friday evening and over the weekend.  A mass email has been sent that details the specifics of scheduled power outages.
      • The environmental remediation contactor has completed the work on the 8th floor of 1542 Tulane Ave.  Work continues in the basement and on the 7th floor.  Work should begin on the 6th floor shortly.
      • The contractor making repairs to the two large MEB Lecture Rooms began running new conduit for the additional electrical service and network wiring that is being provided to individual seats.
      • Temporary repairs to the Dental School continue.  The temporary, portable boiler that will supply domestic hot water to the Clinic and Administration buildings has been delivered.  The installation will begin in the near future.
      • Additional concrete bumpers ordered as part of the improvements being made to Student parking lots were delivered.  Approximately half of the quantity ordered were received and will now be installed.
      • One of the exhaust fans on the roof of the Resource Center has been determined to be inoperable.  A plan for the repair or replacement is being developed.
      • Occupants at the Lion’s/LSU Clinic reported low water pressure on the 8th and 9th floors of the building.  An assessment of the building systems led to the conclusion that the problem is probably related to a city water leak.  The problem has been reported to the Sewerage & Water Board.

      • The State Fire Marshal completed his inspection of the Resource Center this afternoon and has certified that the building may be reoccupied.  This means that within the nine months following the storm, all but one of the buildings on the downtown campus have been reopened and returned to use.
      • All of the medical air and vacuum pumps that have been installed recently in the research buildings are now being connected to the respective building systems.
      • The contractor completed the removal of the flood damaged air handling unit that serves the two large MEB Lecture Rooms.

      • As students move back into the Residence Hall, the LSUHSC Facility Services staff continue to move furniture into the proper rooms, fix leaks that may have been identified, change light bulbs as needed, and replace burned out light bulbs in Exit signs.
        • New washing machines and dryers are expected to be delivered and installed in the near future.
      • The contractors making temporary repairs to the Dental School Clinic and Administration buildings are making steady progress in the basement and 1st floor spaces. 
        • The 1st floor cleanup and demolition of flood damaged building materials has been completed in the Clinic Building; the temporary barriers were removed today.
      • The State Fire Marshall is scheduled to inspect the Resource Center tomorrow.
      • The elevator repair contractors continue their work as they make repairs to elevators in various downtown campus buildings.
        • Roman St. Parking Garage – The contractor has begun making repairs to the two passenger elevators. 
        • Nursing/Allied Health – The 4th and final passenger elevator was certified for passenger use by the State Elevator Inspector late last week.  The freight elevator repairs continue.
      • Repairs and enhancements to the two large MEB Lecture Rooms have begun. 
        • The contractor is drilling in the auditorium to allow for electrical service and network connections to be provided to each seat in the Lecture Rooms.   
        • The mechanical subcontractor working in the MEB expects to remove the damage air handling unit serving the Lecture Rooms tomorrow.
      • MEB Seminar Rooms – all of the new ceiling tiles have been installed. 
      • The environmental remediation contactor completed their cleaning work on the Walk to Wellness on Saturday.

      • The vacuum pumps and medical pumps are in place at both the MEB and the CSRB.  They still require some final assembly, piping and wiring.
      • At the Lion’s/LSU Clinic, the vacuum pump has been installed and the medical air compressor is being installed today.  Additional assembly, piping and wiring is also required for these items.
      • Work continued on the replacement of the damaged electrical feeders at the CSRB on Saturday.  The emergency power receptacles for the entire building and all power for the Perdido side of the building experienced an unforeseen 30 minute power interruption during this process, but the power was restored without further incident.
        • Two of the remaining damaged A/C feeders were successfully removed and one replacement was pulled and terminated.
        • New cable is on order for the replacement main feeder.

        • Due to the recent disruption in power in the Clinical Sciences Research Building (CSRB), we are planning two 12 hour air conditioning outages for the Perdido Street side of the CSRB building while we replace the electrical feeder for this circuit.  Additionally, all building exhaust systems will be inoperative during this period. These shutdowns will take place Saturday, May 20, 2006 and Saturday, May 27, 2006 from 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M.  Testing has shown that these CSRB feeders, which run from the switchgear to panels that feed electricity to critical functions, have sustained damage due to Hurricane Katrina.
        • The Residence Hall opened today as scheduled and students began moving into their rooms.  The contractor is working the punch list items; reinstalling closet doors, completing tiling in selected areas, etc.
        • Facility Services is now located in their permanent offices on the 2nd floor of MEB, Suite 2110. The work order system is up and running and can be accessed through the LSUHSC website. Only the Downtown Campus work order section is attended. The phone number is the same, 568-7716.
        • The re-shelving of the collection in the Resource Center Library is nearing completion.
        • The exhaust fans powering the fume hoods in the MEB are now working.  The Safety Department has begun to certify the hoods in the building.
        • The vacuum pumps have been delivered to the MEB and the installation will begin shortly.
        • The enhancements to the Seminar Rooms in the MEB continue.  The improved lighting has been installed and new ceiling tiles have been installed.  Wireless network access is being installed.

        • The Residence Hall will reopen on schedule beginning Friday, May 26th.  A mass email announcement has gone out with all the details.
        • Due to the recent disruption in power in the Clinical Sciences Research Building (CSRB), we are planning two 12 hour air conditioning outages for the Perdido Street side of the CSRB building while we replace the electrical feeder for this circuit.  Additionally, all building exhaust systems will be inoperative during this period. These shutdowns will take place Saturday, May 20, 2006 and Saturday, May 27, 2006 from 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M.  Testing has shown that these CSRB feeders, which run from the switchgear to panels that feed electricity to critical functions, have sustained damage due to Hurricane Katrina.
        • The State Fire Marshal will inspect the Resource Center on Wednesday, May 31st. 
        • The rebuilt emergency generator stators have been installed in the MEB, the Nursing/Allied Health Building and the Resource Center.  The final electrical connections still need to be completed.  The emergency generators are being connected to the Residence Hall.
        • The medical vacuum and air pumps have been installed in the CSRB.  The medical air pumps for the MEB were delivered today. 
        • The remediation contractor continued working in the basement and 7th & 8th floors of 1542 Tulane Ave.

        • The new refrigerators have been moved into the rooms in the Residence Hall; Towers “A” and “B” and a portion of the rooms in Tower “C”.   The final cleaning of the rooms and public spaces continues in all three of the towers.  We are still projecting to be able to open the building by our target date of Friday, May 26th.
        • It was necessary to delay the scheduled inspection of the Resource Center by the State Fire Marshal until early next week.  A firm date for the inspection will be established shortly.
        • The State Elevator Inspector tested and certified 3 elevators in the Nursing/Allied Health Building today – # 3, 4 & 5.  The Inspector will return tomorrow to test Elevator #2.  With this testing completed, we expect to have four certified elevators in the Nursing/Allied Health Building by the end of the day tomorrow.  The freight elevator is still being repaired and will not ready for testing and certification until mid-June.
        • The bids for the temporary repairs to the electrical system at 1542 Tulane have been received and evaluated.  Recommendations to award the contract to the low bidder have been made by both the architect and LSUHSC and forwarded to the Office of Facility Planning and Control for their concurrence.
        • The contract for the permanent repairs to the MEB Lecture Rooms, the Gross Anatomy Lab, the Morgue and the MDL’s has been awarded.  The preconstruction meeting has been scheduled for the beginning of next week and work on the contract should commence shortly thereafter.

        • The tile installation, sealing and finish work in the Residence Hall is complete in both the “A” and “B” tower.   LSUHSC Facility Services will be inspecting the completed work tomorrow, doing the final cleaning of the rooms and spaces in preparation for the return of students, and completing the standard maintenance (light bulbs, exit signs, etc.) on Wednesday and Thursday.  We continue to plan for the reopening of the building by the end of this week.
        • The rebuilt stators for the emergency generators at the MEB, the Nursing/Allied Health Building and the Resource Center have been delivered.  The installation of the MEB stator began today.
        • The vacuum pumps and medical air pumps for the CSRB were delivered to the site today and installation will begin shortly.
        • The work on the MEB Seminar Rooms continues.  The installation of new carpeting is complete, the installation of new lighting continues and the ceiling tile is being installed. 
        • The replacement of carpet and tile in both Medical Center Stores and Campus Office Stores has been completed.  This will allow those operations to move back into their normal locations as soon as the shelving and stock can be returned. 
        • The installation of carpeting in the Resource Center Library is now substantially complete.  Only punch list items remain to be addressed by the contractor.  The State Fire Marshal is scheduled to inspect the Resource Center tomorrow morning and we are optimistic that we will be able to reopen the building following his inspection.

        • The Roman Street Parking Garage emergency power panel, which controls the electricity to the 1st floor lighting and emergency lights in the stairwells, has been repaired and is re-energized.
        • The environmental remediation contractor completed the cleaning of the walkway by Stanislaus Hall.   They are cleaning ducts on the 8th floor of 1542 Tulane Ave.  and are continuing with the asbestos abatement in the basement.  Cleaning has also begun on the 7th floor.
        • Building steam is now available to the autoclaves in both the CSRB and the MEB. 
        • Upgrades to the MEB 3rd floor Seminar Rooms continue.  The carpeting is almost complete.  The installation of new lights is approximately 70% complete.  Painting has been substantially completed; only touch up work remains to be done.  One of the new white boards needs to be replaced.  New ceiling tiles have been delivered and will be installed when the electrical work has been completed.  The final improvement will be the installation of wireless network access points above the ceiling tiles.
        • The installation of new carpeting in Medical Center Stores has been completed.  The furniture, shelving and stock are being moved back into the original space.
        • The installation of new carpeting in Campus Office Stores is approximately 50% complete. 
        • Repairs to the emergency generators are progressing.  The contractor installed the transfer switches at the Residence Hall over the weekend.  A full crew will be on site to work on the generator at the MEB tomorrow.
        • The State Fire Marshal inspected the fire alarm (and related) systems at the Residence Hall today and granted the approval to reoccupy when the remainder of the preparations are completed in student rooms.
        • The State Fire Marshal is scheduled to inspect the Resource Center on Wednesday and we hope to be able to reopen the building later in the week.
        • Rapid progress on the temporary repairs to the Dental School continues to be made.
          • All 5 of the building buss ducts are now powered up. 
          • The temporary switchgear has been delivered and the installation is approximately 50% complete. 
          • Domestic water pumps are installed and operating, but the city water pressure is low and has been reported to the Sewerage &Water Board.
          • The temporary boiler is on site and the installation will begin shortly.

          • Another milestone. Our first student dormatory, Stanislaus Hall, will reopen in the morning.
          • The contractor continues to make progress on the student Residence Hall. Finishing work continues on the tile replacement, and the new tile is being sealed. The Fire Marshall is scheduled to inspect the building Monday.
          • Elevators 4 & 5 have been approved for passenger use in the Nursing/Allied Health Building.
          • Environmental clearance has been received on the air handling units on the 2nd floor of the Nursing/Allied Health Building. Air conditioning is being turned on.
          • Medical air and vacuum pumps for MEB, LE and CSRB expected in shop tomorrow.
          • De-Ionized water pumps due in next week.
          • At the Dental School:
            • Concrete pads removed for air compressors in Power Plant.
            • Housekeeping pads for equipment in basement being poured – 50% complete.
            • Valves for CHW system installed. System being checked for leaks and then will be refilled.
            • Domestic water is still off while isolation valves being installed to isolate damaged sinks on 7th floor.
            • One tap box left to be installed.
            • Leveling floor for channel line to be poured for new temporary switchgear.
            • PO being issued to empty flooded elevator pit.
          • Library carpeting nearly complete and library collection being delivered and reshelved
          • Student Parking Lot 2 improvements expected to be complete tomorrow.

          • The contractor continues to make good progress finishing the tile replacement and has began sealing the tiles in the Residence Hall. Additionally, the emergency generator is now in place at the Residence Hall. A 2 hour power outage will be planned this weekend to test the automatic transfer switch.
          • The remediation contractor continues to make good progress on the 8th floor of 1542 Tulane
          • The elevator contractor completed repairs at Stanislaus
          • Carpet and tile work is complete at Medical Center Stores, and they will begin moving operations back into their normal space

          • The water pumps are installed at the Dental School and the building has partial water pressure. The remainder of the system will be filled tomorrow.
          • The State Elevator Inspector has certified the elevators at the Residence Hall for general use.
          • The new marker boards have been installed in the 3rd floor seminar rooms of the Medical Education Building. The wiring of the new lighting should be initiated tomorrow, and the new ceiling tiles should arrive Thursday and Friday for installation this weekend.
          • The carpeting in the library was largely completed this weekend. Finish work is all that remains.
          • The contractor will be working to repair the elevators at Stanislaus Hall tomorrow.

          • REMINDER:  The CSRB will experience a scheduled power outage over the weekend as previously announced.  Power will be turned off Saturday morning at 7:00 AM and should be restored not later than 7:00 PM on Saturday evening.
          • The final work necessary to reopen Stanislaus Hall is progressing.
            • The domestic hot water pumps are now operating normally.
            • The elevators at Stanislaus Hall have experienced some intermittent outages recently.  The contractor is back on site and seeking to diagnose and fix the cause(s) of the problems. 
            • We remain optimistic that these issues will be resolved early in the week and we will be able to reopen the facility mid to late next week.
          • Temporary repairs continue at a rapid pace at the Dental School.
            • The temporary emergency generator is in place and ready for operation once the connections are completed.
            • The transfer switch and transformer for normal building power is in place. 
            • All of the tap boxes have been received and approximately one third are being installed at this time.
            • The air compressor has been received on site. 
            • Demolition of housekeeping pad is well underway – estimated to be 70% complete.
            • The temporary domestic water pump is being installed. 
          • The contract for permanent repairs to downtown campus windows has been awarded.
          • The remediation contactor has received clearance for the air handling unit located in the Nursing/Allied Health on the 10th floor.  A/C will be turned on Monday.
          • The environmental remediation work is progressing in the basement and 8th floor of 1542 Tulane.
          • Work on the repairs to emergency generators on the downtown campus continues.
            • Both of the emergency generators for the Residence Hall are on site and the preparations for installation have begun.
            • Rebuilt stators for the generators at the MEB, the Nursing/Allied Health Building and the Resource Center are expected to be delivered on Tuesday, 5/16.
            • The emergency generators serving the CSRB and Lion’s/LSU Clinic Building have been repaired and are ready for use as necessary. 
          • Medical air and vacuum pump repair work continues.  Replacement pumps will be on site on Tuesday, May 16th. 
            • The contactor is still working to remove the housekeeping pad in the MEB. 
            • The preparations at the CSRB and Lion’s/LSU Clinic are complete and the buildings are ready to accept the new pumps.
          • Good progress has been made installing the new carpet on the 5th floor of the Library in anticipation of the return of the collection that begins next week.  The contractor plans to complete his work on the 5th floor over the weekend.
          • The replacement carpeting for Medical Center Stores is projected to be installed on Monday.  Once completed, the staff will be able to return their operations to the original space on the 2nd floor of the MEB.

          • As noted in John Ball’s email sent late on Monday, the environmental remediation contractor has begun work in the basement and 8th floor of 1542 Tulane.  Please avoid accessing the basement, 1st and 8th floors during this week while the contractor works in these spaces. 
          • The elevators in the Residence Hall were inspected by the State Elevator Inspector today.  We are waiting the results of the inspection, but we are optimistic that they will be certified for passenger use.
          • The environmental remediation contractor continues to press to complete the installation of the replacement floor tiles in the Residence Hall.
          • The contractor responsible for elevator repairs in the Resource Center has indicated that the repairs to the remaining elevators (those not yet certified) will be completed by the end of next week.  As soon as those repairs are finished, we will ask the State Elevator Inspector to conduct an inspection in hopes of getting the remaining elevators certified.
          • The replacement of carpeting in the Resource Center continues to progress towards completion.  Based on the projected completion of the carpeting, the library collection is scheduled to be returned to the Library and re-shelved beginning next week.  This process is anticipated to take approximately 6 weeks.

          • REMINDER:  Due to the recent disruption in power in the CSRB, we are planning an electrical shutdown for the Perdido Street side of the building, the side of the building that has experienced several outages in the past week.  This shutdown will take place today, May 9, 2006 from 5:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M. and will allow us to replace a damaged electrical feeder.
          • The contractor completed the removal of the flood damaged vacuum pump at the MEB. 
          • The environmental remediation contractor continues to install replacement tile in the Residence Hall.
          • The installation of carpet in the Resource Center Library continues on the 5th floor.

          • REMINDER:  The CSRB will experience a planned power outage on Tuesday, May 9th from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM to allow for repairs to one of the three main power feeders supplying the building.
          • The environmental remediation contract begins at 1542 Tulane Ave. on Tuesday, May 9th.   Access to the building will be limited during the completion of the contract.  More detailed information will be provided through a mass email to be released separately.
          • Repairs to the emergency generators serving buildings on the downtown campus continue.  
            • CSRB – the generator has been repaired, fueled, and is ready to be tested. 
            • Lion’s/LSU Clinic Building – the generator has been repaired, fueled, and is ready to be tested. 
            • Residence Hall – the contractor has started to remove the damaged generator. 
            • We are waiting on the delivery of the rebuilt stators for the MEB, the Nursing/Allied Health Building and the Resource Center.
          • The damaged medical air and vacuum pumps have been removed from the CSRB and the Lion’s/LSU Clinic Building.  In the MEB, the contractor has removed the medical air pump and is working to remove the vacuum pump.   
          • The domestic hot water return pump has been installed and is now working in the Resource Center.
          • Preparations have been completed to open the steam lines to CSRB.

          • CSRB switch gear:  The search for the cause(s) of the power outages discovered three damaged electrical feeders that serve the building.  Plans are underway to replace the most critical feeder during the evening of Tuesday, May 9th and the other two feeders on Saturday, May 13th.  Specifics on the scheduled building shut downs will be published via mass email shortly.
          • Temporary repairs at the Dental School continue. 
            • The contractor’s generator has been delivered to the site. 
            • The transfer switch and two tap boxes needed to connect power to two of the building’s risers have also been received.  The contractor will be installing the tap boxes over the weekend. 
            • The installation of new conduit will also be finished this weekend. 
            • Environmental remediation in the basement continues; it is approximately 90% complete. 
            • All of the pipe insulation in the basement is complete.  The temporary chillers are to be operating again on Saturday.
          • The contractor awarded the 3rd environmental remediation contract on the downtown campus mobilized today and work is underway on that contract.
          • The fire alarm contractor continued their work in the Resource Center.  They are running conduit and pulling wire to re-route wires that were originally run through the slab.

          • The removal of flood damaged building materials continues at the Dental School.  The work is approximately 70% complete in the basement spaces and about 50% complete on the 1st floors of the two buildings.
          • The domestic hot water pumps have been installed and are operating in the Nursing/Allied Health Building.
          • The contractor has begun removing the damaged medical air and vacuum pumps and the water purifiers from the CSRB.
          • The installation of fire alarm system devices continues on the upper floors of the Resource Center.
          • The resurfacing and improvements are almost completed at the Residence Hall and on Student Lot #2.  Work began today on Student Lot #3.
          • The majority of the equipment for the new fitness center in Stanislaus Hall has been delivered and is being installed.

          • The State Fire Marshal has granted us a temporary (30 day) permit to immediately use the Bookstore in the Resource Center for three hours a day, Monday through Friday prior to occupancy of the Resource Center.  This will require a manual fire watch and students may only go in and out of the Bookstore during this period.
          • The Stanislaus Hall emergency generator has a burned out board preventing the automatic transfer switch from operating.  If it cannot be repaired within the 30 day temporary occupancy permit, battery powered emergency lights will be required to extend the permit to occupy the building.
          • We continue to experience problems with the main CSRB switch gear.   Additional corrective actions are being planned and will be communicated when they are finalized.
          • Additional work on cleaning and landscaping the grounds of the downtown campus continue.
          • Work also continues on the improvements to Student Parking Lot #2.

          • The State Elevator Inspector is scheduled to inspect the repaired elevators in the Residence Hall on Tuesday, May 9th.    
          • The elevator contractor responsible for the Nursing/Allied Health building now has two crews working in the building to complete repairs.
          • The repairs to the Resource Center fire alarm system are progressing. 
          • Panels needed as part of the emergency generator repairs were delivered to the downtown campus today.  Installation of these panels will begin shortly. 
          • Temporary repairs to the Dental School Clinic and Administration builds continue.  The insulation of critical piping in the basement is almost complete.  Demolition of flood damaged materials in the basements and on the first floors continues.
          • Installation of carpeting on the 5th floor of the Resource Center is approximately 50 percent complete.

          Two additional buildings have been approved for immediate occupancy. 

           

          • The State Fire Marshal completed his inspection of the Nursing/Allied Health Building today.  They granted a conditional permit for temporary (30 day) occupancy of the buildings.  A number of deficiencies were identified which will be resolved over the balance of the month. 
            • Safety will be a major concern of the State Fire Marshal.  We expect special emphasis on evacuation plans and fire drills to make certain that all are knowledgeable of evacuation and exit routes. 
            • We have very limited building maintenance and custodian staff.  The understanding, patience and support of all faculty, staff and students of these realities is appreciated.
            • Repairs to building elevators have not been completed at this time, and they are not certified for passenger use.  We hope that these repairs will be completed within the next two weeks.  
            • The contractor has made sufficient repairs to the freight elevator to allow it to be used to move equipment and materials that may have been removed to facilitate the operation of our Schools in temporary locations.
          • The State Fire Marshal also completed his inspection of Stanislaus Hall today.  A conditional permit for temporary (30 day) occupancy of the building was granted.  Occupancy will be delayed another 7 - 10 days to allow some of the corrections to be made.    
          • Stanislaus Hall now has proper chilled water temperature to support the building’s air conditioning, including elevator equipment room air conditioning.  This should alleviate the intermittent elevator problems that have been experienced over the past few weeks.
          • The contractor worked over the weekend installing tile in the Residence Hall.
          • The contractor at the Dental School has begun the environmental remediation demolition on first floor and basement of both the Clinic and Administration Buildings.
          • Carpet installation in the Resource Center continues.  We estimate that the 3rd floor is approximately 90% complete, while the 5th floor is 40% complete. 
          • The contractor working on the improvements to the parking lots began work on Student Lot #2 today.

          REMINDER: A domestic water shutdown in the Resource Center is scheduled for Saturday morning, April 29th from 8:00 – 12:00.  This will allow LSUHSC plumbers to change out the shutoff valves on toilets on floors 3, 4 and 7.

           

          • The remediation contractor cleaned the air handling unit on the 8th floor of the Resource Center.  The crews will finish the cleaning on the 8th floor Friday morning.
          • The remediation contractor has crews and shifts working 24 hours a day to complete the installation of the floor tiles in the Residence Hall.
          • The manager at Stanislaus Hall has just reported that the freight elevator shut down last Friday.   The two other elevators serving the building have also been reported to be operating erratically at times.  The contractor is investigating, but suspects that the problems may be due to high temperatures in the 16th floor equipment room. 
          • The city water pumps in Stanislaus Hall are both making noise when turned on.  We will be unable to start up the chilled water system until this is resolved.  The contractor has been notified.
          • The fire alarm contractor is replacing damaged system devices and tracing the wiring to facilitate the installation of the fire panel in the Resource Center. 
          • The Nursing/Allied Health Building is ready for the inspection by the State Fire Marshal on Monday.  Fire phones for the building are still backordered, but this will not affect the occupancy of the building.
          • In the Residence Hall, the fire alarm contractor will be testing the punch list repair items on Friday.
          • LSUHSC electricians are checking the wiring connections to the CSRB exhaust fans and making new, more permanent connections as part of their efforts to address the recent building power outages.
          • The carpet contractor continues working in the Resource Center on the 3rd floor and has started working on the 5th floor hallways.

          • Temporary repairs to the building electrical system (Phase 1) at the Dental School continue.  A broken water line has caused some minor flooding in the basement and one of the temporary sump pumps burned up and is being replaced.  The contractor has completed approximately 20% of the new conduit runs and the temporary power wires have been run.  The temporary switch gear and tap boxes are on order and awaiting delivery. 
          • The contractor responsible for Phase 2 of the temporary repairs to the Dental School has mobilized and begun work.  The demolition related to environmental remediation has begun on the 1st floors of the two main buildings.  The contractor has also started removing the damaged air compressors (medical and control air) from the Power Plant. 
          • The contractor completed wiring the city water pump at Stanislaus Hall at 1:00 PM today.  The city water pump and system filled and started operations today.  The chilled water system in the building will be started up tomorrow.
          • The State Fire Marshal is scheduled to inspect the fire alarm system at the Nursing/Allied Health Building on Monday morning, May 1st. 
          • Work on the punch list for the fire alarm system in the Residence Hall is complete.  The contractor must re-inspect the system, and all the standalone smoke detectors must be tested and documented by LSUHSC personnel.   When complete, the State Fire Marshal will be scheduled to inspect the build system.
          • The environmental remediation contractor has completed all of the work in the Nursing/Allied Health Building.  We have the environmental clearance on floors 3-9, and the building air handling units are operating. 
          • At the Residence Hall, we are waiting on the environmental test results for clearance on most of the building floors. 
          • The tile replacement in the Residence Hall continues.  That work has been completed on Floors 7-10 on all three towers.
          • The environmental remediation work is complete at Stanislaus Hall. 
          • The contractor is re-cleaning the rooftop ventilation unit that failed the earlier environmental testing. 
          • The replacement of carpeting in the Resource Center continues.  The large open area on the 3rd floor has been completed and the book shelves are being moved back into place.  The 4th floor has been completed except for the stairs.  The replacement work has not yet begun on the 5th floor.

          • The fire alarm system in the Nursing/Allied Health Building is ready for inspection by the State Fire Marshal.  We have requested that the inspection be completed on Thursday or Friday of this week.
          • Environmental clearances have now been received for Floors 3-9 in the Nursing/Allied Health Building.  We are waiting on the reports for Floors 2 and 10.
          • Installation of floor tiles in the Residence Hall is continuing. 
          • The environmental remediation contractor completed the cleaning of the “C” Tower elevator pit and the Nursing/Allied Health freight elevator pit today. 
          • The MEB received environmental clearance for one rooftop ventilation unit.  The second unit will need re-cleaning and retesting.  One half of building exhaust system can be put into use once the cleared unit is started up. 
          • The scheduled testing of the CSRB switchgear over the weekend was completed.  We are waiting on the written report from the manufacturer at this time.  However, the following summarizes the findings thus far:
            • Some problems were discovered, including some on the main breaker which has been tripping occasionally, though nothing was identified that clearly caused our problems. 
            • There was some indication that there may be wiring issues on the roof mounted exhaust units.  This will be the next focus for LSUHSC Facilities staff.
            • There were also some indications that the trip settings are too "tight."  This will require that we secure some electrical engineering assistance to analyze further. 
            • The LSUHSC Property & Facilities staff will build on this analysis and “walk out” from the switchgear to ensure the CSRB building systems are performing as well as possible. 
            • Today, the A side main breaker and mechanical equipment breaker on the A side tripped around 3:00 PM.  The breakers were reset and power was restored within 20 minutes.

            • The four sump pumps in the basement of Stanislaus Hall are now operating. The city water pump should be connected to building power tomorrow. 
            • The fire alarm contractor working in the Nursing/Allied Health Building is completing the testing of the water flows in the system. They still need to receive and install one additional pull station.  LSUHSC personnel will be adjusting the water flow tamper switches.  The fire alarm elevator recall was tested and works.
            • The Resource Center fire alarm contractor has received a large parts order.  They will start the installation of these repair parts tomorrow. 
            • In the Residence Hall, the fire alarm panel has been yellow tagged while LSUHSC personnel complete the punch list items.  When the punch list is complete, the contractor will return and test the final repairs so that the panel can be green tagged.  Once that has been completed, the State Fire Marshal will be scheduled to complete his inspection.
            • The elevator maintenance contractor is working on repairs to the Nursing/Allied Health freight elevator so that movers can use it during the 1st week of May.  LSUSHC personnel will remove the loose and damaged tile from the floor of the freight elevator on Wednesday.
            • The environmental remediation contractor completed their scheduled cleaning of elevator pits over the weekend with two exceptions; one elevator pit in the Residence Hall and one in the Nursing/Allied Health Building.  They will schedule the cleaning of these two pits in the near future.

            NOTE #1: A complete building power outage is scheduled in the CSRB this Saturday morning to allow the manufacturer to conduct calibration, testing and inspection of the switchgear.  This will also allow an inspection by the contractor who completed temporary repairs to the switch gear to check their repairs.  Additional partial outages will occur throughout the balance of the day as sub-systems are tested and inspected.

             

            The total building outage is scheduled to occur from 7:00 AM through 11:00 AM. The remaining sub-system testing will begin shortly thereafter and should be completed by 9:00 PM. LSUHSC will have engineers and electricians on site to make sure that all equipment comes back on and that there are no problems remaining after the testing has been completed.

             

            NOTE #2:  The environmental remediation contractor working on the downtown campus plans to clean the elevator pits in the following buildings during this weekend - April 22 and April 23.  The following buildings will have the listed elevators locked off at the 2nd floor level and will not be available for use during this period.  The 1st floor elevator doors will be also be open so that they can access the elevator pits and perform the necessary cleaning.

            Here are details on the progress made through the close of business today:

            • The MEB elevator emergency phones are now installed and working.  According to the State Elevator Inspector, there is no need to re-inspect the elevators; they are now certified for general use.
            • The repairs to the “A” and “C” Tower elevators in the Residence Hall are complete, except for the work on the buffers and a few punch list items.  Work on the “B” Tower elevator is underway and work will continue over the weekend.  
            • The elevator contractor for the Resource Center will be replacing the 1st floor doors on all of the elevators in the building.
            • The installation of the domestic water pumps in Stanislaus Hall is complete and te LSUHSC Property & Facilities staff finished the installation of a new electrical disconnect. This will allow these pumps to be electrically connected to building power next week. 
            • The pump contractor is checking the alignment of all installed, working pumps in the Downtown campus.
            • The testing of the repaired fire alarm system in the Residence Hall is now complete.  The punch list items will be completed next week, and the State Fire Marshal will be scheduled to inspect the system.
            • Repairs to the Nursing/Allied Health Building fire alarm system are mostly complete. LSUHSC Facilities Services completed the installation of cables for fire alarm reporting. The audio and strobe lights are working throughout the building.  The final testing will be conducted on Monday.  If the tests are successful, we will schedule the State Fire Marshal’s inspection of the system.
            • The work of the environmental remediation contractor is substantially complete in the Nursing/Allied Health Building.  Only punch list items remain to be addressed.
            • Temporary repairs to the Dental School Administration and Clinic Buildings continue.  The electrician is working on the temporary power feed.  Tap boxes to the existing buss ducts have not yet been received. Feeder cables will be pulled this weekend from the LSUHSC Power Plant to the temporary switchgear location.
            • The installation of carpeting in the Resource Center on the 3rd floor is approximately 50% complete.  The Library stairs and the 5th floor must still be carpeted.

            • The carpeting contractor will receive the scaffolding needed to work on the staircase in the Resource Center Library tomorrow.  The final shipment of carpeting is expected to be delivered by the end of next week.  Installation work continued on the 3rd floor.
            • The environmental remediation subcontractor is laying the new floor tile in the Residence Hall “B” tower on Floors 7 and 10. 
            • In the Nursing/Allied Health Building the remediation contractor is removing the temporary barriers and mopping their way out of building today.  They will need to get into the security room to complete their cleaning when the fire alarm contractor has completed his work in that space.  The remediation in this building is substantially complete.
            • The environmental remediation contractor is removing the pipe insulation in the Stanislaus Hall pump room today and will be finished tomorrow.
            • The sump pumps (4) in Stanislaus Hall need to have the sumps cleaned out before they can be energized.  LSUHSC personnel will be taking care of this on Friday. 
            • The domestic water pump in Stanislaus Hall needs a new disconnect.  The part arrived today and it will be installed tomorrow. 
            • The elevator contractor has completed the repairs of the “A” and “C” Tower elevators in the Residence Hall, except for the final repairs to the buffers.  They are now focusing on the “B” Tower elevator.   The contractor plans to work this weekend while the remediation contractor cleans the elevator pits. 
            • Some problems have been found in the newly installed telephone lines serving the MEB elevators.  They are still troubleshooting the problems in the lines.

            • There are a few fire alarm system devices that need to be replaced on the 5th and 10th floors of the Nursing/Allied Health Building and the contractor is securing these now.  We still anticipate receiving approval from the State Fire Marshal to reoccupy the building as scheduled.
            • The new emergency telephones are being installed in the MEB elevators.  When completed, the State Elevator Inspector can complete his inspection and certify them for use.
            • Environmental Remediation:
              • The cleaning of the HVAC system is finished at the Residence Hall.  LSUHSC personnel are installing new filters and testing each fan. 
              • The contractor is removing glue from the 1st floor slab in the Resource Center where floor tiles were removed. 
              • The final cleaning is being done in Stanislaus Hall. 
              • The more extensive work of removing drywall, etc. on the 1st floor of the Nursing/Allied Health Building is still in progress.
              • The contractor will be cleaning elevator pits this weekend.
              • The contractor expects work under the contract to be 100 percent complete next week.

            • Repairs to the "C" Tower elevator in the Residence Hall have been completed.  The State Elevator Inspector must inspect and certify the elevator before it can be used.
            • The sump pumps in Stanislaus Hall are being connected to building power.
            • Repairs to the fire alarm system in the Residence Hall are substantially complete.  A punch list has been developed.  When these items are addressed, the State Fire Marshal will be asked to inspect and certify the building. 
            • The environmental remediation contract is completing their work on the 1st floors of both the Nursing/Allied Health Building and the Resource Center.   They are also completing the last of the cleaning required in the basement of Stanislaus Hall.
            • The replacement of damaged tile in the Residence Hall continues.  The majority of the other environmental remediation work has been completed in the building.

            • All five of the elevators in the Lions/LSU Clinic have been certified for general use by the State Elevator Inspector. 
            • The elevator contractor working at the Residence Hall is working to finish repairs to the “C” tower before shutting down the “B” tower.  The contractor plans to send out both the “A” and “B” elevator wheels for repair at the same time. 
            • The contractor will be replacing the 1st floor elevator doors on all of the elevators in the Resource Center.  The hoist cable on elevator #3 is undersized and was cited by the State Elevator Inspector prior to the current contactor receiving the annual maintenance contract.  The former contractor is paying for the replacement cable and the current contractor will install it.   The replacement cable is in the contractor’s shop. 
            • The temporary chiller and generators are on line at the Dental School Clinic and Administration buildings and the buildings are being cooled.  The electrical contractor is working on a temporary electrical power feed.
            • The recommendation to award the contract for the temporary mechanical repairs to the Dental School has been reviewed by all the parties and the Office of Facility Planning & Control has instructed us to proceed with the award.
            • The domestic hot water pumps in the Nursing/Allied Health Building are being installed.   We are waiting on the delivery of the city water pumps for this building.
            • The installation of the domestic water pumps in Stanislaus Hall has been completed.  However, the electrical disconnect needs to be replaced.  LSUHSC is handling this task. 
            • The MEB heating hot water pumps are installed, have been tested and are ready to operate.  We are still waiting on receipt of the MEB condensate return pumps.  The domestic hot water return pump has been removed for testing/evaluation.
            • Repairs to the fire alarm system in the Nursing/Allied Health Building are approximately 95% complete.  Some equipment needed to complete the repairs is still on backorder. 
            • The fire alarm contractor is completing preliminary work in the Resource Center while they wait for the delivery of needed parts to complete the final repairs. 
            • The final testing of the fire alarm system in the Residence Hall has started.  Testing should be completed by the end of this week.
            • Emergency Generators:
              • The contractor has inspected all of the automatic transfer switches (ATS) in each of the buildings to determine what repairs are needed. 
                • The Nursing/Allied Health Building will require a shutdown of electrical power to the building to work on ATS.  This will be scheduled. 
              • CSRB: Repair work is complete on the generator.  Diesel fuel is needed and LSUHSC has placed the order. 
              • Lion’s/LSU Clinic:  Most of the repairs have been completed, however a panel needed for the repairs has not yet arrived.  Diesel fuel is also needed here and will be ordered. 
              • The MEB, the Residence Hall, the Nursing/Allied Health Building and the Resource Center are waiting on repairs to be completed to the stators of their respective generators.   As the repaired stators are delivered, they will be installed.
            • The replacement of 20 year old carpeting in the Resource Center is proceeding.  The installation of carpeting is complete on the 4th floor and the old carpet on the 3rd floor is being removed.

            • The emergency phones for the MEB elevators have been installed and are working properly.  The State elevator inspector will be contacted and requested to schedule the final inspection of these elevators sometime next week.
            • The change out of damaged elevator pit devices in the Walk to Wellness and the Gravier Street Garage elevators is scheduled for Monday, April 17th.
            • The installation of the domestic water pump at Stanislaus Hall is underway.  The contractor projects that the work will be completed by April 20th; possibly earlier.

            • New telephone lines for the emergency phones in the MEB elevators (replacing the old intercom system) are now ready and we are waiting for the installation of the phones.  When the emergency phones have been installed and the State elevator inspector completes his final inspection, the elevators can be certified for regular use.
            • The planned improvements to the Residence Hall parking lot have begun.
            • The outside air units on the roof of the MEB have been cleaned.  They need the environmental clearance before they can begin to operate.  This will assist in minimizing or eliminating odors and fumes from the interior spaces.

            • All five of the elevators at the Lion's/LSU Clinic Building have passed inspection and are now certified for normal use.
            • The CSRB cooling tower is back on line.  The walk-in coolers in the building will be tested one at a time, beginning tomorrow.
            • Approximately one third of the replacement floor tiles for the Residence Hall arrived today.  The installation of the tile will begin tomorrow. 
            • The environmental remediation of the remaining spaces on the 4th floor of the MEB has been completed and the punch list items are being provided to the contractor.
            • The remediation contractor is continuing to clean the air conditioning units in the rooms of the Residence Hall.  They have completed the work down to the 4th floor.
            • The MEB boiler is shutting down as it senses low natural gas pressure.  Entergy has been contacted.
            • The domestic hot water pump in the Nursing/Allied Health Building, the city water pump in Stanislaus Hall, and the hot water recirculating pumps are all being installed.

            • The bids on the 3rd environmental remediation package for the downtown campus have been received and the bid responses are currently being evaluated. 
            • The air conditioning units in the Residence Hall apartments are being cleaned by the environmental remediation contractor.  The replacement floor tile for the building has not been delivered yet.
            • The three elevators at Stanislaus Hall have been certified for general use by the State elevator inspector. 
            • The traveler and governor cables are being replaced on the "A" and "C" tower elevators in the Residence Hall.

            • The results of the inspection of the Lion’s/LSU Clinic elevators have not yet been published.  Work began today on the repairs to the elevators serving the Walk To Wellness.
            • All smoke detectors and pull stations have been installed in the Nursing/Allied Health Building with the exception of 8 pull stations and duct-mounted smoke detectors on the 5th and 10th floors.  Additional parts are required to complete this portion of the work.  The contractor is working on the terminations for all of the control wires for the fire system and this work appears to be approximately 25 % complete. A missing cabinet (one of two) that will house the fire equipment is still on backorder, but the other cabinet has been mounted.
            • The heating hot water pumps in the CSRB and MEB have been connected to electrical power.  They will be tested early next week.
            • Work on the environmental remediation of the 1st floors of both the Nursing/Allied Health Building and the Resource Center continues.  Approximately half of the mechanical rooms in both buildings have been cleaned and passed inspection.

            • The State elevator inspector completed his inspection of the elevators in the Lion’s/LSU Clinic Building today.  We expect to have his reports on these elevators on Friday.
            • The heating hot water pumps for both the CSRB and the MEB were connected to the building plumbing systems. 
            • The emergency generator contractor delivered the rebuilt stator (the motor which generates the electricity) for the Resource Center generator.  Installation will begin shortly.

            • The leaks found in the brine pumps at the MEB yesterday have been repaired.  The three heating hot water pumps are being installed in the MEB at this time. 
            • Work is underway on the contract to make temporary repairs to the building electrical systems at the Dental School Clinic and Admin buildings.
            • Prices for the 2nd package of emergency repairs (to the mechanical systems) in the Dental School Clinic and Administration buildings have been solicited and bids were opened today.  The bids are being evaluated at this time and the award recommendation is expected shortly.

            • The elevator contractor is replacing the hoist cables for the "C" Tower elevators in the Residence Hall.
            • The two heating hot water pumps have been installed in the CSRB.  The electrical connections have not yet been made. 
            • The brine pumps in the MEB have been installed and are operating.  Minor leaks have been identified and will be repaired tomorrow. 
            • Two hot water recirculating pumps have been installed in the Resource Center, but the electrical connections must still be made.
            • All of the damaged electrical panels serving the emergency generators have been removed from the affected buildings in preparation for their repair/replacement.
            • Potential contractors are completing their site visits prior to preparing and submitting proposals for the environmental remediation of the remaining downtown campus buildings and structures.

            • The three boiler feed water pumps in the MEB have been installed and are now operating. 
            • The two chemical feed water pumps have also been installed at the MEB and are operating. 
            • Two chilled water auxiliary pumps for the CSRB were delivered today.  Installation will begin shortly.
            • The hot water recirculating pumps have been installed in the Lion's/LSU Clinic building.  Some additional re-piping is still required and the electrical connections have yet to be made.
            • The contractor began the replacement of damaged fire alarm system components throughout the Nursing/Allied Health building today.
            • The Office of Facility Planning & Control has given the authorization to solicit prices for the permanent repairs to storm damaged windows in downtown campus buildings.
            • Environmental remediation work continues (removal of drywall, etc.) on the 1st floors of the Nursing/Allied Health Building and the Resource Center.

            • The contractor has started to install the boiler feeder water pumps in the MEB. They have completed the installation of the chemical pumps. The chemical pumps add chemical to the boilers to treat the water and de-scale the boiler.
            • The environmental remediation contractor is continuing to clean on the first floor of the Resource Center and the Nursing/Allied Health Buildings and in the basement of Stanislaus Hall.

            • The hot and cold domestic water pumps in the CSRB have been installed; electricity has been connected and they are fully operational.  This means that water for flushing toilets and washing hands is now available on every occupied floor in the building. 
            • Seven new pumps serving various purposes were also delivered to the downtown campus today.  Installation of these pumps will now begin.
            • The environmental remediation contractor is working on the 1st floor of the Nursing/Allied Health Building removing sheet rock and other flood damaged building materials.  Cleaning continues in the basement of Stanislaus Hall.
            • The contract to complete the 1st phase of temporary repairs to the Dental School Clinic and Administration Buildings building systems has been awarded.  The bonds are being secured by the contractor and we anticipate issuing the Notice To Proceed shortly.
            • The pre-bid conference on the 3rd environmental remediation contract will be held tomorrow.  This contract will address 1542 Tulane Ave. and the remaining buildings and structures on the downtown campus.
            • Full Internet access has been restored to the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th floors of the Lion’s/LSU Clinic Building.  This was accomplished in large part through the efforts of the School of Medicine’s PC Support team, as they worked to get all of the computers updated to insure that the LSUHSC network is protected.

            • The State Fire Marshal has inspected the repairs to the fire alarm system at the MEB and the system has passed.  As a result, the requirement for a manual fire watch on the upper floors has been lifted.
            • The domestic cold and hot water pumps in the CSRB have been installed.  The hot water recirculating pumps are also being installed in the Nursing/Allied Health Building. All of the newly installed pumps still need to be connected to building electrical power.
            • The environmental remediation contractor is cleaning the 2nd and 3rd floor of the Nursing/Allied Health Building. They are also completing the cleaning in the basement of Stanislaus Hall.
            • The remediation contractor is cleaning the mechanical rooms in the Resource Center.  To minimize the time when air handling units will not be operating, they will wait to complete the cleaning of internal components in the air handlers until this weekend.
            • In the Residence Hall, the replacement floor tile is on order.  It should be onsite on Thursday, and installation will begin shortly thereafter.

            • Various building pumps are beginning to arrive on campus and the installation of these pumps will begin soon.  The damaged domestic water pumps in the CSRB are being removed today.  The following pumps have been delivered:
              • The domestic water pump at CSRB,
              • The domestic hot water pump at CSRB, and
              • The chemical feed water pumps at the MEB.
            • The Stanislaus Hall basement is being cleaned by the environmental remediation contractor.

            • Repairs to the fire alarm system at the MEB are complete.  The State Fire Marshal is scheduled to inspect the system on Tuesday. 
            • The elevator contractor encountered problems in the installation of the 1st floor elevator doors at the Lion’s/LSU Clinic Building.  While the problems are being resolved, it has delayed the planned inspection by the State Elevator Inspector.  That inspection will be rescheduled as soon as the installation of the doors is complete.
            • The environmental remediation contractor anticipates that they will complete the removal of all damaged floor tile from the Residence Hall on Saturday.

            • The environmental remediation contractor has completed their cleaning of the upper floors of the Nursing/Allied Health Building down to the 4th floor.
            • The remediation work in Stanislaus Hall began on the top floor and has been completed down to the 1st floor.  The cleaning of the stairwells is now underway.
            • In the Resource Center, the environmental remediation contractor is spot cleaning on the upper floors. They continue with the removal of damaged floor tiles in the Residence Hall.
            • The repairs to the roof mounted emergency generator at the MEB have been completed.  This means that emergency power is again available to a majority of the research freezers and walk in coolers in the building.

            • The second boiler in the MEB is now operating, but one more board is still to be installed in the control unit.
            • The flood damaged domestic water pumps are being removed from Stanislaus Hall.

            • Duplantier & Meric has completed the preparation of two more bid packages including plans and specifications; one for the permanent repairs to windows in the downtown campus buildings that were damaged by the storm, and the second for the environmental remediation of the remaining downtown campus buildings and structures that were not addressed with the first two contracts.  Both are being shared with the Office of Facility Planning and Control, ORM and FEMA to get their concurrence on plans to proceed with the bid process.
            • Repairs to the MEB boiler controls have been completed.  The testing and final adjustments to the controls are being done at this time.
            • Problems with the audio portion of the MEB fire alarm system have been found and they have been referred to the factory for resolution.
            • The environmental remediation work has been completed in Stanislaus Hall from the top floor down to the 3rd floor.
            • The remediation work has also been completed on the 2nd floor of the Resource Center.
            • The inspections of the passenger elevators at both the MEB and Lion's/LSU Clinic Building found minor issues that must be addressed before the elevators can be certified for use.  All of the issues have been forwarded to the elevator contractor and follow up inspections will be scheduled once the issues have been addressed.

            • The State Elevator Inspector completed his inspections of the four passenger elevators at the Lion's/LSU Clinic Building today.  Some issues were identified and are being reported to the elevator contractor.  The reports on the passenger elevators at the MEB have not been published yet, so the elevators have not yet been certified for use.
            • The environmental remediation contractor has removed the floor tile on the 6th through the 11th floor in the Residence Hall.
            • The environmental remediation contractor also completed the cleaning from the top floors of the Nursing/Allied Health Building and Stanislaus Hall down to the 8th floor of each building.
            • In the Resource Center the remediation contractor has completed work on the 5th and 8th floor.  Work will begin on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors over the weekend. 
            • The contractor has completed repairs and is testing the fire alarm panel in the MEB.

            • The environmental remediation contractor began working on the upper floors of Stanislaus Hall today.
            • The contractor pulled new cables for the annunciator panels (remote display units) connected to the emergency generators at the MEB and the Resource Center.
            • The State Elevator Inspector completed his inspection of the four passenger elevators at the MEB today.  His report is expected in the near future. 
            • The Inspector also began the inspections of the four passenger elevators at the Lion's/LSU Clinic Building, but he was unable to complete all of that work today.  Inspections should be completed shortly and his report will follow.

            • The contractor is preparing for the inspection of four passenger elevators at the MEB and four passenger elevators at the Lion's/LSU Clinic Building tomorrow.  If the State Elevator Inspector passes the elevators, they will be certified for general use. 
            • Another of the elevator repair contractors is replacing an emergency phone in one of the elevators at Stanislaus Hall.
            • Work on the repairs to the fire alarm system at the MEB is nearing completion.
            • The removal of damaged floor tiles began in the Residence Hall today.
            • Work began on the cleaning, decontamination and re-certification of biosafety cabinets in the various research labs today.  There are 100 cabinets covered under the contract.

            • Work is progressing on the environmental remediation work at the Residence Hall.  Crews are also cleaning the 8th floor and atrium space in the Resource Center and the 10th floor of the Nursing/Allied Health Building.  Crews will begin the cleaning of the upper floors at Stanislaus Hall tomorrow.
            • The repair parts have been received and the repairs are now being made to the MEB boilers. 
            • The piping of the sump pumps at Stanislaus Hall has been completed.  The control panel for the sump pumps has also been installed.  The electrical connections will be made shortly.
            • The Office of Facility Planning and Control approved a significant change order to the environmental remediation contract today.  This will allow us to replace floor tile in the Residence Hall that was damaged and lifted from the floor due to the high heat and humidity in the building following the hurricane.

            • Work began today on the 2nd environmental remediation contract which addresses the Residence Hall, Stanislaus Hall, the Nursing/Allied Health Building and the Resource Center.
            • The contractor has completed the repairs to the 4 front passenger elevators at the MEB.  An inspection of those elevators will be scheduled shortly. 
            • Four of the elevators in the Lion's/LSU Clinic will be ready for inspection when the 1st floor doors are installed and the emergency phones are tested.  This work is expected to be completed within the week. 
            • Two passenger elevators and the freight elevator at Stanislaus Hall have been repaired and are ready for inspection.

            • The bids for the temporary, emergency repairs to the building electrical systems at the Dental School (Clinic and Admin Buildings) were received today.  The bids are being evaluated and an award is anticipated in the near future.
            • The environmental remediation contractor for the 2nd phase will begin work on Monday.  Plans are to begin at:
              • The Residence Hall on the 9th, 10th, and 11th floors, 
              • Stanislaus Hall on the 11th through the 16th floors,
              • The Nursing/Allied Health Building on the 10th floor, and
              • The Resource Center on the 8th floor.
            • The new city water pumps for Stanislaus Hall were received today.  Installation will begin shortly.

            • The 2nd environmental remediation contract has been awarded and the contractor has begun to mobilize their work crews.  This contract will address the Residence Hall, Stanislaus Hall, the Nursing/Allied Health Building and the Resource Center in this order of priority.  As with the 1st remediation contract, we anticipate that multiple crews will allow work to be accomplished in more than one building at a time. 
            • The damaged radiator has been removed from the emergency (roof mounted) generator at the MEB.
            • The elevator maintenance contractor started the installation of the DC generator for the #7 freight elevator at the MEB today.

            • The contractor repairing the emergency generators removed the electrical motor that generates emergency power from the generator at the Nursing/Allied Health Building today.
            • The elevator maintenance contactor received all of the 1st floor doors for the elevators at the Lion’s/LSU Clinic Building.  They also received the replacement pump that lifts the elevator that serves the cafeteria at the MEB.  The installation of these parts will begin shortly.

            • The environmental remediation contractor crews are still working on the 2nd and 4th floors of the MEB and spot cleaning in various mechanical rooms in the building.  They are also cleaning the two small freight elevators and shafts in the MEB.
            • The various elevator contractors continue to work on elevators in the CSRB, the Nursing/Allied Building, the Lion’s/LSU Clinic Building and the MEB.  The whisper cables in the passenger elevators and the roller guides on the freight elevator in the Nursing/Allied Health Building have been replaced. 
            • The contractor making repairs to various building pumps has installed the new gate valves (connected to the 1st two sump pumps) in the basement of Stanislaus Hall.   They are now piping the 3rd and 4th sump pumps in the same building.
            • Repairs have begun on the fire alarm panel system at the MEB.

            Additional updates on progress to date include the following:

            • The contactor has completed the removal of all flood damaged building materials from the Dental School basement and has completing the required cleaning in those spaces.  Test results confirm that it is now safe to enter the basement without wearing any personal protective gear.  This contract is complete.
            • The environmental remediation contractor has cleaned the passenger elevators and passenger elevator shafts in the CSRB and the MEB.  They are continuing their work on the 2nd and 4th floor of the MEB.

            Significant progress!  Based on the State Fire Marshal’s approval and the environmental clearances noted below, the MEB and the Lion’s/LSU Clinic Building will be reopened on Monday, March 6, 2006 with the limitations noted.

            • The State Fire Marshal has given us clearance to reoccupy the upper floors of the MEB with some conditions:
              • We will have to maintain a manual fire watch for the time being.
              • Because work remains to be done on the fire alarm panel, he has requested that we not hold any large functions or classes at this time.
              • Some specific safety training will be required for those who initially reoccupy the building.
            • We have also received environmental clearances to reoccupy the MEB as described below:
              • The 2nd floor is cleared for use with the exception of the morgue.
              • The 3rd floor is cleared for use without exception.
              • The 4th floor has not been cleared for general use by faculty, staff or students.  Considerable remediation work remains to be done in the MDL’s and the Gross Anatomy Lab.  While the work progresses rapidly, we will not be able to use this floor until the remediation has been completed and testing verifies that it can be used.
              • The 5th, 6th and 7th floors have been cleared for use without exception.
            • The State Fire Marshal has given us clearance to reoccupy the upper floors of the Lion’s/LSU Clinic Building without a manual fire watch being required.
              • No special safety training will be required.
              • No other exceptions to the clearance were noted.
            • We have also received environmental clearances to reoccupy the upper floors of the Lion’s/LSU Clinic Building as described below:
              • The 2nd 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 9th floors have been cleared for use without exception.
              • A small area of the 8th floor may be questionable.  Additional clarification is expected on Friday morning.

              • The emergency generator repair crew removed the electric motor that generates electricity (the stator) from the Resource Center generator.
              • All of the library materials have been removed from the Resource Center Library and staged on the 1st floor for shipment, subsequent cleaning and temporary storage.

              • The State Fire Marshal has completed his inspection of the upper floors of the Lion's/LSU Clinic Building.  He has given permission for us to reoccupy the 2nd through the 9th floors without requiring a manual fire watch.
              • The LSUHSC Property and Facilities staff are installing an additional 40-50 temporary battery powered emergency lights in the MEB to satisfy the State Fire Marshal’s requirements.  We are attempting to schedule a follow up inspection on Friday and we remain cautiously optimistic that we can reopen the MEB on Monday, 3/6/06 as currently planned.
              • The contractor responsible for removing flood damaged building materials from the Dental School basement completed the required re-cleaning in the basement. They are awaiting the results of final testing.  Once approved, we will be able to enter the basement spaces without wearing personal protective gear.
              • The contractor repairing the CSRB Animal Care cage & bottle washers and the sterilizers has the cage washer and small sterilizers on the first floor working. The bulk sterilizer has a bad detergent sensor which will be replaced in the next few days.  Animal cages are now being washed.
              • Crews began repairs to elevators in the Nursing/Allied Health Building today.
              • The environmental remediation contractor is continuing his cleaning of the 4th floor and the 1st floor of the MEB.
              • The emergency generator repair crew removed the electric motor that generates electricity from the MEB generator.

              • The contractor has completed the final repairs to the switchgear at the Lion's/LSU Clinic Building.  Building power was taken down, the switchgear cleaned and the newly refurbished main breaker was installed.  Permanent building power is now restored to the building.
              • The environmental remediation contractor completed the cleaning of the mechanical rooms on the 2nd through the 7th floors at the CSRB over the weekend.  The contractor continues to clean the 4th floor of the MEB and the 1st floors of the MEB and the CSRB.  They are also cleaning the air handlers on the 1st and 2nd floors of the MEB.
              • The contractor responsible for the repairs to the emergency generators had two crews on site today; an electrical crew and a generator repair crew.  The electrical crew examined the generators and recorded model numbers, etc. to facilitate the ordering of parts. The generator crew began working on the generator at the MEB.
              • The elevator maintenance contractor began working on the #7 (Animal Care) and #8 (freight) elevator of MEB.  Repair crews are also working on the 2nd freight elevator in the MEB; replacing the buffers.  Crews are also replacing the governor cables on two of the passenger elevators in the building.

              • The environmental remediation contractor has completed the cleaning of the upper floors of the MEB.  Preliminary air monitoring results are good and final results are expected early next week.  No problems are anticipated.  The contactor continues the more complex work on the 1st floors of the CSRB and the MEB.
              • The State Fire Marshal has been asked to complete his inspection of the MEB on Wednesday next week and we are anticipating being given permission to reopen the building under a manual fire watch on Monday, March 6th. 
              • The last repaired main breaker for the electrical switchgear at the Lion’s/LSU Clinics building has been received.  Within the next 4-5 days, the power in the building will be taken down, the switchgear cleaned, the refurbished main breaker replaced and permanent power restored.  If the planned cleaning of the switchgear and the reinstallation of the refurbished main breaker goes as planned, we anticipate the reopening of the Lion’s/LSU Clinic Building on Monday, March 6th as well.   
              • The environmental remediation contractor will be cleaning the air conditioners in the CSRB over the weekend.  This will require that the A/C and exhaust systems be shut down on Saturday and Sunday.
              • The 1st of the bid packages for temporary repairs to building systems at the Dental School has been completed.  It addresses the basic repairs to the building electrical systems. An expedited procurement process is being used and the pre-bid walk through was held on site today.
              • The contractor that is removing flood damaged materials and cleaning the basement at the Dental School is completing the re-cleaning of areas identified during the inspection yesterday.  The completion of this work will allow access into the basement without the requirement to wear any personal protective gear.
              • The punch list items for the contract to clean the upper floors of the Dental School Clinic and Administration buildings have been completed on the 5th, 6th and 8th floors of the Clinic Building.
              • Two of the four sump pumps have been installed in the Stanislaus Hall basement.  A small change order has been requested to address a damaged valve discovered in the line feeding the sump pumps.

              • The environmental remediation contractor is currently cleaning the engine room and receiving area in the CSRB. They are also cleaning the mechanical rooms in the MEB on the 1st, 3rd, and 7th floors. They have begun cleaning on the 4th floor of the MEB.
              • One of the elevator repair contractors is replacing the elevator car rollers and cables in the four passenger elevators in the CSRB. 
              • Another of the elevator contractors is continuing their work on the four passenger elevators located in the MEB. They also began replacing the rollers and cables on the two small freight elevators in the MEB (Elevator 6 and 7) today. 
              • One of the tower elevators in the Residence hall is now working, but it has not yet been certified for passenger use.
              • The contractor responsible for removal of flood damaged materials from the 1st floor spaces in the downtown campus buildings and Dental School campus buildings has completed their punch list and the contract is now complete. 
              • The contractor responsible for removal of flood damaged materials from the Dental School basement has completed their work in the majority of the basement areas and passed a visual inspection.  More formal testing is underway to verify the completion of the work.  In the few places that failed the visual inspection, the contractor is re-cleaning those areas.

              • The repairs to all the elevators at Stanislaus Hall have been substantially completed.  The contractor will request that the elevators be inspected by the State Elevator Inspector shortly.
              • The original repairs to the Animal Care cage & bottle washers and sterilizers in the CSRB have been completed.  An additional pump has been identified as needing repairs and a Change Order has been issued.  LSUHSC electricians are currently diagnosing problems with the supply of electrical power to some of the repaired equipment.
              • The installation of the sump pumps in the basement of Stanislaus Hall began today.
              • The smoke and fire detectors were installed in the elevator pits at Stanislaus Hall.
              • The library books and materials have been removed from the 3rd and 4th floors.  Approximately 50% of the collection has been removed from the 5th floor.

              • The environmental remediation contractor cleaned the mechanical rooms on the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th floors in the MEB.
              • The fire pump at the Residence Hall passed its test by the State Fire Marshal.
              • The elevator repair contractor is replacing the buffers and compensation chains on the four front passenger elevators at the MEB.
              • The pre-construction meeting was held today with the emergency generator repair contractor and work will begin on Monday, 2/27.

              • The environmental remediation work has been completed on the 9th and 2nd floors of the Lion's Eye Center. 
              • The environmental remediation work has been completed in the mechanical rooms on the 3rd through the 7th floors in the CSRB. 
              • The environmental remediation work has completed on the 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 7th floors of the MEB.
              • The replacement sump pumps for the basement of Stanislaus Hall have been delivered and the damaged pumps have been removed.  Installation of the new pumps will begin shortly.
              • The installation of temporary, battery powered emergency lighting has been completed at the Lion's Eye Center. 
              • The electronic controls for the MEB boilers were found to have been damaged during the testing of the initial boiler repairs.  A contract has been issued for their repair.

              • Environmental remediation work continued today on the 3rd floor of the MEB, and the 1st floors of the CSRB, Lion’s Eye Center, and the MEB.  The contractor plans to work over the weekend on the 8th and 9th floors of the Lion’s Eye Center and to continue work in the 1st floor spaces where work has already been started.
              • Network connectivity to the CSRB has been restored.  Repairs to the microwave dish on the roof of Stanislaus Hall have also been completed and network connectivity is again available to the floors (5-10) where it was provided prior to the hurricane.
              • The fire pump at the Residence Hall was tested today.  The results are pending.
              • The tests of the Animal Care steam generators, small sterilizer and cage washers were completed today.  The steam generator and small sterilizer were working properly, but power was not available to the cage washers.  LSUHSC Property & Facilities electricians are researching this problem now.

              • At the regularly scheduled weekly meeting, the architects for the Dental School campus restoration began to share preliminary concepts of how critical basement and 1st floor functions might be protected from a similar event.  The various proposals combine both relocating functions within the existing buildings and the possible construction of an annex.
              • The environmental remediation work continued on the upper floors of the MEB as planned.  The contractor also began removal of flood damaged drywall from one of the MEB Auditoriums. 
              • Work began today on the repairs to the fire pump system for the Walk To Wellness.
              • The contractor responsible for the removal of flood damaged materials from flooded 1st floors around the downtown and Dental School campus is completing punch list items at the Human Development Center Daycare Center Bldg.  Punch list items remain to be addressed at the Auxiliary Enterprises warehouse and at 1542 Tulane Ave. 
              • The contractor responsible for removal of flood damaged materials from the Dental School basement continued their final cleaning of basement spaces and expects to be done within a week.

              • The environmental remediation work in the 1st floor Animal Care space at the CSRB was completed today.  The remediation work on the 6th floor of the MEB was also completed.  Crews will begin working on the 3rd floor of the MEB tomorrow.
              • The State Fire Marshall inspected the fire pump and fire alarm system at the Lion's Eye Center.  As a result, the requirement for a manual fire watch on the upper floors has been lifted.
              • The fire pump at the MEB was tested today.  The test results are pending.
              • One of the two major elevator repair contractors has assigned a third crew who will be dedicated to the repairs at the Residence Hall.  That crew will begin work on site tomorrow.
              • The installation of the temporary, battery powered emergency lights in the MEB has been completed.
              • The contractor who is removing the flood damaged carpet and building materials completed the punch list items at the Dental School Clinic and Administration buildings.  They also completed the punch list at the HDC Library Building.
              • The swap out of the second of the two main switch gear breakers at the Lion's Eye Center was completed yesterday evening as scheduled.  The old breaker has been sent for rebuilding and will be reinstalled when it is returned.
              • All of the repaired Animal Care cage washers and sterilizers at the CSRB will be tested tomorrow.

              • The contractor began removing the library collection from the Resource Center for cleaning and temporary storage in anticipation of the environmental remediation of that building in the near future.
              • The installation of temporary, battery powered emergency lighting in the MEB and the Lion's Eye Center is almost complete.  Work to install similar lighting is beginning in the Nursing/Allied Health Building.
              • The contractor reported that they had completed their cleaning of the basement at the Dental School.  The environmental consultant conducted their visual inspection for mold and found that addition cleaning remained to be done in selected areas. The contractor will be given a walk through on Thursday by the consultant so that the areas needing additional cleaning can be specifically identified.
              • The contractor repairing the Lion's Eye Center switchgear will swap out the second of the two main breakers tonight starting at 5:00 PM.  The power outage is expected to last for approximately an hour.  This will allow the final main switchgear breaker to be rebuilt.
              • The electrical connections have been made to the fire pump at the MEB and the pump should be tested tomorrow.  The new concrete pad has been poured to secure the fire pump at the Residence Hall.
              • The environmental remediation work in the 2nd floor Animal Care areas at the CSRB was completed today. 
              • MEB 7th floor remediation work is now complete. Work is underway on the 6th floor of the MEB and should be completed tomorrow. 
              • The removal of drywall began on the 1st floor of the Lion's Eye Center.  This is part of the environmental remediation contract in flood damaged areas of the building.

              • The environmental remediation contractor completed their work on Floors 3-7 in the CSRB, excluding the mechanical rooms on those floors. 
              • The remediation work was also completed on the 5th and 7th floors of the Lion's Eye Center. 
              • Remediation work began on the 7th floor of the MEB and will continue tomorrow.  When the 7th floor is complete, the teams will move to the 6th Floor of MEB.

              • The installation of the large steam generators in the CSRB Animal Care area has been completed and the contractor has begun trouble shooting the systems.  Additional problems have been identified with one of the steam generators and replacement parts are on order and expected early next week.
              • The needed repairs to the fire alarm system at the Resource Center have been identified and a contract has been issued to the fire alarm system maintenance contractor.
              • The contractor responsible for the removal of flood damaged carpet and building materials from the 1st floors has completed the punch list items at the MEB and the Lion's Eye Center.

              • Work on the environmental remediation of the Lion's Eye Center continued today.  To minimize disruption to activities in the CSRB, the remediation crews will work in the CSRB (3rd through 7th floors) on the weekend.  We can assist in facilitating the completion of the work by limiting access to CSRB spaces during the weekend.
              • The architects/engineers responsible for the Dental School campus presented revisions to the plan to make temporary repairs to facilitate reoccupation of the buildings.  They received the approval to pursue this version of the plan which relies on repairing or replacing critical mechanical and electrical components in the same place that they originally occupied.  They also presented the latest plans for permanent repairs and related hazard mitigation, which were well received by FEMA.  Further work on these plans and the development of cost estimates were encouraged.
              • The contractor is trouble shooting the steam generators and the controls for the small sterilizer in the CSRB Animal Care area.
              • The concrete pad supporting the old Residence Hall fire pump has been removed and the new pump installed.  Electrical and plumbing connections to the new fire pump still remain to be completed. 
              • The elevator maintenance contractor was working on repairs to the passenger elevator at the Lion's Eye Center.

              • Lion’s Eye Center:  Work on the environmental remediation of the 7th, 5th and 4th floors of the Lion's Eye Center is to be completed today.  The crews will begin working on the 2nd, 4th and 6th floors tomorrow.  Completion is expected by Friday.  Work will begin on the 8th and 9th floors over the weekend.  Faculty and staff are requested to minimize their entry into this building during the remediation.  This will help to keep the work on schedule and minimize the chances of having the work compromised, which would require rework and delay completion of the contract.
              • MEB: The environmental remediation of the MEB will start on Monday; beginning on the 7th floor.  Plans are to complete one floor per day until all floors through 2nd floor are completed, with the exception of the Gross Anatomy lab and the morgue.  These spaces will take additional time and effort to complete.  Faculty and staff are requested to minimize their entry into this building during the remediation.  This will help to keep the work on schedule and minimize the chances of having the work compromised, which would require rework and delay completion of the contract.
              • The architect presented two proposals for hazard mitigation that would address damaged animal care areas and selected mechanical & electrical components of the CSRB, Lion's Eye Center and the MEB.  Present at that meeting were representatives from FEMA, the Office of Facility Planning & Control, the Office of Risk Management and the LSUHSC.
              • Repairs to the front four passenger elevators at the MEB resumed today.
              • The contractor responsible for the removal of flood damaged building materials completed the punch list for the Roman St. Parking garage.

              • A temporary shut down of power at the MEB is scheduled today (2/7) from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM to allow for the installation of the remaining ground fault interrupters in the A (S. Roman St./Gravier corner) and D (Bolivar/Perdido corner) electrical risers.  This is also expected to be the final repair to the building’s switchgear.
              • Work began on the environmental remediation contract for the three research buildings today.  The cleaning of the upper floors of the Lion's Eye Center was started and preparations for the removal of flood damaged wall board from 1st floor spaces also began.
              • The Office of Facility Planning & Control has instructed the architect to proceed with the solicitation of quotations for the contract to complete the environmental remediation of the Residence Hall, Stanislaus Hall, the Nursing/Allied Health Building and the Resource Center. The architect has been authorized to use an expedited process in securing a contractor.
              • The main switchgear breaker at the Nursing/Allied Health Building was successfully replaced as scheduled during the morning hours.  This completes the repairs to the switchgear in this building. 
              • The removal of asbestos from the basement at the Dental School has been completed.  The cleaning of the basement spaces is now underway.
              • The contract to make repairs to the emergency generators at the CSRB, Lion’s Eye Center, MEB, Nursing/Allied Health Building, Residence Hall, and the Resource Center has been awarded.
              • The installation of the steam generators in the CSRB Animal Care cage and bottle washers continues.
              • The installation of the Residence Hall fire pump continued today.  The electrical connections between the building fire alarm system and the fire pump were completed at the Lion's Eye Center.

              • The replacement of the main switchgear breaker at the Nursing/Allied Health is scheduled for 7:00 AM on Tuesday, 2/7/06.  Power to the building will be interrupted for approximately an hour.  This is expected to be the final step in the switchgear repairs. 
              • A temporary shut down of power at the MEB is scheduled for Tuesday, 2/7 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM to allow for the installation of the remaining ground fault interrupters in the A (S. Roman St./Gravier corner) and D (Bolivar/Perdido corner) electrical risers.  This is also expected to be the final repair to the building’s switchgear.
              • The pre-construction meeting for the environmental remediation of the CSRB, MEB and Lion’s Eye Center was held today.  The Notice To Proceed will be issued effective Wednesday, 2/9/06 and work will begin immediately.
              • The electrical connections were made to the MEB fire pump.  The contractor also began the installation of the fire pump in the Residence Hall. 
              • Replacement buffers were installed in the elevator pits for three of the elevators at the CSRB. 
              • The temporary 800 amp breaker was installed at the Lion's Eye Center on Saturday as scheduled.

              • The contractor responsible for removal of flood damaged equipment and flood damaged carpet and building materials is returning to the campus on 2/7 to address their punch list items and complete the two contracts.
              • The installation of temporary, battery powered emergency lighting in stairwells and hallways of the MEB began today.
              • The contractor is installing a temporary main switchgear breaker Saturday, 2/4 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Lion's Eye Center.  This will allow the damaged breaker to be sent out and rebuilt.  Power to the building will be interrupted during this hour long period.
              • The contractor cleaning the upper floors of the Dental School Clinic and Administration buildings began working the punch list today. Completion of the contract is expected next week.
              • The MEB fire pump was installed today.  The pump and fire alarm panel are waiting for electrical connections to be made. 
              • The installation of the Residence Hall fire pump is scheduled to begin on Monday, 2/6.
              • The contract for the repairs to the fire alarm system in the Nursing/Allied Health Building has been awarded.
              • The contractor who will complete the environmental remediation work in the CSRB, the MEB and the Lion’s Eye Center was on site to prepare for the initiation of the contract work.  The pre-construction meeting is scheduled with the architect, the contractor and LSUHSC representatives on Monday, 2/6 and work is expected to get underway immediately.
              • The installation of the steam generators in the CSRB cage washers is underway.

              • The bid specifications for the environmental remediation of the Resource Center, Nursing/Allied Health Building, Stanislaus Hall and the Residence Hall have been completed.  The Office of Facility Planning & Control, the Office of Risk Management, and FEMA are reviewing at this time.  The Office of Facility Planning & Control has authorized the architect to utilize an expedited procurement process to secure a contractor for this work.
              • The State Fire Marshal has inspected the repairs to the CSRB fire pump and fire alarm system.  This successful inspection allows us to suspend the manned fire watch on the upper floors of the CSRB. 
              • Temporary, battery powered emergency lighting has been installed in the stairs and hallways of the Residence Hall.  The installation of similar lighting will begin at the MEB tomorrow.
              • The final punch lists have been sent to the contractor responsible for the cleaning of the upper floors of the Dental School Clinic and Administration buildings, and to the contractor responsible for the removal of flood damaged carpet and building materials.

              • The contractor responsible for repairs to the elevators in the MEB and Lion’s Eye Center now have two separate teams dedicated to the repairs; one team working in each building. 
              • The contractor removing flood damaged building materials from the Dental School basement is continuing to remove materials that contain asbestos.

              • The repairs to the fire alarm system at the Lion’s Eye Center have been completed.

              • The contractor has restored power to the Nursing/Allied Health building.  Plans to complete the remaining repairs to the switchgear will include one more shut down of the entire building.  This event will be scheduled in advance.
              • The installation of the CSRB fire pump is complete.  The contractor is testing the pump and related systems.  If all tests are successful, they will schedule an inspection of the fire alarm system and fire pump by the State Fire Marshal. 
              • The concrete pads have been poured for the newly installed fire pumps at the Lion's Eye Center and the Nursing/Allied Health buildings. 
              • The contractor began the removal of the damaged fire pump from the MEB. 
              • The replacement fire pump was delivered to the Residence Hall.

              • Work on completing the installation of the fire pumps at the Lion’s Eye Center and the Nursing/Allied Health Building continued today.  The task of pouring new slabs and making the final connections to the pumps is expected to be finished soon.
              • The power was restored to the Residence Hall over the weekend as the contractor completed the last of their repairs to the switchgear.
              • The elevator contractor responsible for repairs to elevators in the MEB, Lion’s Eye Center, Nursing/Allied Health, Residence Hall, and Dental School Admin. & Clinic buildings continued their work with the assistance of a new team of people from out of state.  This team is dedicated to completing the repairs on the LSUHSC campus.

              • The #1 and #2 passenger elevators in the Resource Center have passed the inspection conducted by the State Elevator Inspector and are now available for general use.
              • The State Fire Marshal has inspected the repaired fire alarm panel at the CSRB.  His report will be forthcoming shortly.
              • The LSUHSC Property & Facilities staff have been able to provide temporary emergency lighting at 1542 Tulane by connecting the emergency generator to the emergency electrical riser.  This will provide limited lighting in the stairways and halls.
              • The contractor is completing the electrical connections to the fire pump and the fire control panel at the Lion's Eye Center. 
              • Power in the Residence Hall will be shut down on Saturday, 1/28 to allow repairs to be made to transformers.
