Instructions for Users Without Visual Studio.Net

Users without Visual Studio.Net (VS.NET) need to download the template file from the website. This template file can be customized for the individual website. The controls may not be rendered in the software used to edit the pages depending on the software used.

Downloading the Template File

Download the file which contains a template sample with and without the menu, open, and extract into your directory location.

About the Template File

Inside the template file, you will notice three controls that were added to the file. These controls reference the actual DLLs in the Global Assembly Cache (GAC). At the top of the file, the three controls are registered for use:

<%@ Register Assembly="LSUHSC2011Header, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=c45deba1fda86780"
Namespace="LSUHSC.CustomControl" TagPrefix="cc1" %>
<%@ Register Assembly="LSUHSC2011Footer, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=c45deba1fda86780"
Namespace="LSUHSC.CustomControl" TagPrefix="cc3" %>
<%@ Register Assembly="Template2011MenuControl, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=bc63866c0f1f0186"
Namespace="LSUHSC.TemplateCustomControl" TagPrefix="cc2" %>

Do not modify these lines as they are needed in order to use the controls.

Also in the file are the three controls, positioned to where they will display in the webpage:

<cc1:LSUHSC2011Header ID="LSUHSC2011Header1" runat="server" />

<cc2:LSUHSCTemplate2011Menu ID="LSUHSCTemplate2011Menu1" runat="server" />

<cc3:LSUHSC2011Footer ID="LSUHSC2011Footer1" runat="server" />

The Header and Menu controls have customizable attributes.

Customizing the Template File

Once you have downloaded the template file and saved it to the appropriate location, open the file to customize the attributes. Without VS.NET, the attributes must be manually edited. A description of the attributes and how they are used are listed on the Control Attributes page.
