LSUHSC-NO Retiree Annual Enrollment Information

LSU’s Annual Enrollment is being held from October 1, 2017, through October 31, 2017.  During this time, you are able to change health plans for an effective date of January 1, 2018. If you wish to remain in the same plan, you do not have to submit a form.  You only need to submit a form if you want to change your health plan for the 2018 plan year (January 1, 2018-December 31, 2018).

The Office of Group Benefits has extended their annual enrollment through November 15, 2017. Please note that this does NOT include the LSU First Health Plan, the LSU First Medicare Retiree Plan and the Voluntary Benefits offered through LSU.

Effective date for any changes made during Annual Enrollment

Medicare Part A and Part B

All retirees and retiree spouses who are eligible for no-cost Medicare Part A MUST enroll in Medicare Part A and Part B and submit proof of enrollment to LSUHSC-NO. Those who are not eligible for no-cost Medicare Part A must provide proof of ineligibility to LSUHSC-NO. 

In addition, any retiree or retiree spouse on an OGB plan with both Medicare Part A and Part B will have a reduced premium.  If you have not provided us with proof of coverage in both Medicare Part A and Part B, please submit a copy of your Medicare card to LSUHSC-NO in order for your monthly premiums to be adjusted accordingly. 

The health plans available for the 2018 plan year are:

  • LSU First Plan, Option 1 and Option 2
  • LSU First Medicare Retiree Plan (Option 3)
  • Pelican HRA 1000 Plan administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield                              
  • Magnolia Local Plan administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • Magnolia Local Plus Plan administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • Magnolia Open Access Plan administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • Vantage Medical Home HMO plan administered by Vantage
  • Additional Medicare Advantage plans through the Office of Group Benefits

Changes to the Health Insurance Plans Effective January 1, 2018

The Office of Group (OGB) Benefits Health Plans

OGB has made no premium changes for 2018. There is an increase of $1,000 to the Out-of-Pocket Maximum on the Magnolia Local Plus and Open Access plans. There is a $50 ER co-pay increase on the Magnolia Local Plus plan. It is recommended that you visit info.groupbenefits.org to view 2018 plan information, attend an OGB meeting* or call 1-800-272-8451 for information on all OGB plans.

LSU First Health Plan

LSU First Choice Providers and Generic medications will continue to be paid at 100% after HRA. There will be a premium increase for 2018. LSU First has also made the following plan design changes for 2018:

  • In-Network coinsurance of 80%/20%
  • Brand and Specialty medication coinsurance of 20%, up to a $150 maximum copay for a 30-day supply
  • Rollover HRA will be treated as Current Year Rollover
  • Rollover HRA will be capped at 1 time Current Year HRA

*As part of our commitment to provide the highest level of benefits possible and to control unnecessary spending, LSU First is taking steps to ensure that only eligible dependents are enrolled in our health care benefits.  LSU First has hired Hodges-Mace, LLC, to conduct a dependent audit in order to verify that all enrolled dependents meet the established plan requirements for eligibility. If you have a covered spouse or any other dependents, you will receive instructions in the mail directly from Hodges-Mace, LLC, on how to verify your dependents. Please note that failure to comply with the audit requirements may result in loss of dependent coverage.

LSU First Medicare Retiree Plan

The LSU First Medicare Retiree plan will have a premium increase for 2018.   Please note that if you or any of your covered dependents are not eligible for Medicare A and B, you are not eligible for this plan. For more information, you can visit www.uhcretiree.com/lsufirst.

Medicare Advantage Plans

Retirees (and their covered dependents) with Medicare Part A and B have additional health plan choices. Medicare Advantage plans for 2018 include: LSU First Medicare Retiree Plan, Peoples Health, Vantage Premium, Vantage Standard, Vantage Basic and OneExchange (formerly Extend Health). It is recommended that you visit info.groupbenefits.org to view 2018 plan information, attend an OGB meeting* or call 1-800-272-8451 for information on all OGB plans.

Please note that if you are not a current participant in the UnitedHealthcare Vision, Dental or Life Insurance plans, you are NOT able to enroll during Annual Enrollment.

Dental Insurance with UnitedHealthcare : There will be a 5% premium increase on both the Basic and Enhanced Plans. There are no plan design changes. To find an in-network provider, please visit www.myuhcdental.com and select the National PPO 20 option. You can add or delete dependents or switch between the Basic and Enhanced plans during annual enrollment. No action is required if you wish to continue your current coverage.                                                                

Vision Insurance with UnitedHealthcare : There will be no plan design or premium changes. You can add or delete dependents during annual enrollment. No action is required if you wish to remain in the same plan.

Voluntary Life Insurance and AD&D with UnitedHealthcare:

There will be no plan design or premium changes with your Life and AD&D Insurance. If you changed age bands, your monthly premium on your Life insurance will increase effective 1/1/2018. No action is required if you wish to remain in this plan.

Reminder: The deadline to make any Annual Enrollment changes for LSU First, LSU First Medicare Retiree and Voluntary Benefit plans is October 31, 2017. The deadline to make any changes for the OGB Health Plans is November 15, 2017. Changes submitted will be effective January 1, 2018. Please submit all change forms to LSUHSC-NO. Submitting information directly to OGB may delay processing and result in incorrect insurance deductions.
