Bids for the permanent
repair and hazard mitigation project at the Student
Residence Hall were opened on October 14th. The
architects evaluated the bids and have recommended
that the contract be awarded to the low responsive
bidder. The bids for similar work at the Resource
Center were opened on 10/21/09. The low responsive
bidder has been recommended to receive the contract.
Facility Planning and Control is now working on
awarding and executing the contracts for the Allied
Health/Nursing Building, the Student Residence Hall
and the Resource Center. This process can be
expected to take 30 to 45 days. Coincidently, the
low responsive bidder for each of the three projects
was the same contractor. We are hopeful that this
will help in the coordination and oversight of the
projects as work gets underway.
The renovations to the MEB
7th Floor Physiology lab are substantially complete.
The contractor installed mini blinds in Rooms 7241
and 7250 and completed a variety of punch list
items. Crews installed receptacle covers and touched
up paint in all four rooms. They labeled the
circuits for the wire mold, installed missing
ceiling tiles, and repaired damaged floor tiles.
HVAC diffusers and lights were relocated in Room
7129 and the control switch for the fume hood in
Room 7241 was connected. Workers installed missing
receptacles in Rooms 7221 and 7244. The contractor
cleaned and waxed the floors in all four labs.
The roofing contractor
responsible for replacing the roof of the Resource
Center is required to maintain the roof during the
process so that it doesn’t leak. A series of rainy
days over the past two weeks have delayed the
project, however some additional work was completed.
The contractor finished installing the lightweight
concrete. They installed the first ply of the 2-ply
roofing system on the Gravier St. penthouse and in
the corner of Gravier and South Prieur Streets.
Workers began the installation of the first ply of
the 2-ply roofing in the corner of Gravier St and
Bolivar St.
The construction of two
new ADA-compliant entrances into the Clinical
Education Building from the parking garage is
progressing. The contractor prepped the handicap
accessible ramp for handrails at the 1st Floor
garage entrance and installed the automatic door.
Temporary lighting for the 1st Floor garage entrance
was installed. They touched-up the paint in Room
242B and the carpeting was installed. The ceramic
block wall between Rooms 203 and 204 was demolished.
The contractor sanded and primed the sheetrock walls
at the 2nd level garage entrance. Crews installed
chilled water piping for the HVAC at the 2nd level
garage corridor and hung the new ceiling grid in the
corridor. Workers installed the carpet and vinyl
tile for the 2nd level garage corridor.
Repairs to the 1542 Tulane
Ave. 1st Floor auditorium continue. The contractor
finished floating the sheetrock in the auditorium
and painted it. They cored the 2-inch stage
penetration for the podium connections and the
existing projection screen was removed.
The contractor completed
insulating the chilled water piping and hot water
piping for AHU 4-B and AHU 5-B in the Medical
Education Building. They finished the electrical and
controls installation for the units and began the
testing and balancing. Facility Services relocated
and installed the temporary A/C units in the 4th and
5th Floors Quadrant A (corner of S. Roman Street and
the MEB loading dock). The contractor began
selective demolition of collateral equipment on AHUs
4-A and 5-A.
The demolition continued
in MDL #4. The contractor removed ceiling grid,
tiles and existing light fixtures from the rooms and
removed the existing lab benches from Room 4112A.
Crews removed an existing door and removed
additional bricks for the partition storage door to
Room 4112A. Renovations are now underway. Workers
raised the steel beam that supports the partition
track and roughed in for the new plumbing and
electrical. Sheetrock was hung in Room 4210 and
corner guards were installed along the corridor. The
contractor is constructing new stud walls in Room
4210.
Facilities Services
completed the demolition of the conference and lobby
areas on the 8th Floor of the Lions/LSU Clinic
Building. The new Liebert unit was delivered and the
plumbing connections to the unit were made.
Facilities Services started roughing in the plumbing
for the small coffee room and the general contractor
began laying out the curved wall for the conference
room.
The fencing project at the
City Park Campus is moving rapidly. The contractor
anchored 100 new fence posts in concrete along
Florida Ave. and set the gate posts. They completed
the installation of top rails, bottom rails, and
tension bars along Florida Ave. and installed the
chain link fabric. The contractor started driving
piles along Florida and Moss Ave. and constructed
wood forms for the precast columns. Other activity
at the Campus included the preparation of concrete
based for the installation of new bollard lights
along Florida Avenue. A different contractor
installed structural supports for the new Zeiss
microscopes being installed on the 4th Floor of the
Dental Clinic Building.
The chiller replacement
project at the Uptown Campus is complete. During the
past two weeks the contractor pulled and terminated
the wires for the chilled water pumps and their
variable speed drives, condenser water pumps,
chillers, and air conditioners. They cleaned the
chilled water loop piping in preparation for
connection to the main hospital building. Breakers
for the new chillers were installed during a planned
outage on October 17th. The contractor completed the
chill water piping and successfully tested and
programmed the chillers. The contractor disconnected
the temporary chiller from the building and cleaned
up the site.
The precast concrete
panels were installed on the exterior of the Student
Residence Hall as the lobby expansion project wraps
up. Panels were installed on the Bolivar St. side,
underneath the elevated walkway and on the S. Roman
St. side of the building. Workers installed new door
hardware in the lobby. The contractor installed a
light fixture in the new network closet. Facility
Services painted the steel pole by the precast
concrete bench. Sprinkler escutcheons were installed
underneath both sides of the mezzanine. The State
Fire Marshal completed his inspection and granted
approval for occupancy.
