Subject: Hurricane Katrina Recovery – Update #44
Posted: June 8, 2007
The past two weeks have had
contractors focusing on the many projects that have
been underway for some time now. The contractor
completing the final environmental remediation and
duct cleaning has made good progress in the Dental
School Clinic Building and some of his crews have
shifted over to the Administration Building. At the
same time, the crews working on the upgrade of the
network infrastructure in the two Dental School
buildings have been coordinating closely with the
remediation crews to insure that their work doesn’t
stop. As a result, they have been making steady
progress as well.
The new contracts for
installing the new ceiling tile and grid in the
Clinic and Administration Building and for restoring
the Central Sterilization unit have both gotten
underway. The crews installing ceiling tiles and
grids are also coordinating closely with the
remediation teams. The ceiling tile crew has
completed the grid installation on the 2nd
floor of the Clinic Building and the sub-contractors
are following behind installing the light fixtures
and sprinkler heads. The initial demolition needed
for the Central Sterilization project has begun.
The temporary repair work has
also been steadily progressing at 1542 Tulane Ave.
We are hopeful that we will have a certified
passenger elevator operating in the next week. The
power for the large building pumps is being
connected and additional transformers have arrived
and have been installed. Cable is being pulled to
the transformers at this time.
We are still waiting to hear
back from FEMA on our various 406 Hazard Mitigation
proposals. We remain optimistic that the final
proposal for the Lions/LSU Clinic will be approved.
The conceptual design of the 406 Mitigation proposal
that addresses both the CSRB and the MEB is also
under consideration and we believe that it will be
well received. We hope to get approval for a
proposal to provide additional protection for the
many building elevators throughout the downtown and
Dental School campuses.
Here are highlights of work
