Preparations to facilitate Phase 1
of the re-occupancy of the Clinical Education
Building at 1542 Tulane Ave. are proceeding. Light
fixtures have been installed in the stairwells, in
two of the new lounge areas, and in conference rooms
on three upper floors. New overhead lighting has
been installed over the front porch entry. Furniture
has been installed and arranged in all of the
offices that are planned to be occupied in the first
phase. Carpet has been installed in the lounges on
the 6th and 7th Floors. Ceiling tiles have been
installed in the conference rooms on the 5th through
the 7th Floors. The cleaning crews have completed
their work on Floors 6 through 8 and they are
working on the 5th Floor at this time. Access
control devices and CCTV have been installed and
tested. New landscape planting is underway at the
front of the building.
Auditoriums A and B at the Dental
School are proceeding on schedule. Walls have been
insulated, dry walled and prepared to receive the
wall panels. The riser framing, rebar and foam
required by the new seating has been installed in
Auditorium A. Cementitious board has been installed
at the base of the walls in both Auditoriums.
Blocking for the hand rails and baseboard is now in
place in Auditorium B. The electricians have focused
their efforts in Auditorium A where conduit and
wiring for the ceiling fixtures, down lights and the
wall sconces have been installed. The new electrical
panel has been installed in Auditorium B.
On the upper floors of the Dental
Clinic Building, work is continuing on the lab
renovations. Walls are being framed up around and
within Suite 8405. Door frames are being installed
as the walls are prepared. The electricians are
pulling wire and installing conduit and receptacles
in a variety of places throughout the Suite. The
mechanical contractor tied-in the new vacuum, gas,
hot water, and cold water lines for Room 6335. They
pressure tested the vacuum, air, and de-ionized
water piping in Suite 8405, removed the old ice
water, de-ionized water, and steam lines in Rooms
6335 and 6333, and insulated the supply duct on the
north side of Room 8405. Piping for the two safety
showers in Room 8405 was installed and horizontal
gas piping has been placed in the walls of Rooms
8405D and 8405G.
The project to construct a Commons
area on the 3rd Floor of the Resource Center Library
is continuing. The fire sprinkler contractor has
been on site moving old sprinkler lines and heads to
accommodate the construction and installing new
lines and sprinkler heads in various areas. The
multi-media rooms have been dry walled, taped and
floated. The roll-up fire door and the cover have
been installed in the lobby area. Ceiling work is
underway over the café space, the coffee bar and by
the window wall. Light fixtures are being installed
over the café lounge area.
The largest and most complex project
continues to be the permanent repairs and mitigation
work at the Lions/LSU Clinic Building. In the 7th
Floor lab, the casework and counter tops have been
installed. The fume hood is in place and connected.
Medical air and natural gas lines have been run to
the lab and connected to the counter top turrets.
Sinks and faucets have been installed and drain
lines are being connected. Return air grills have
been installed in the lab area. Electrical wiring is
being completed and receptacles are being installed
on the new casework and baseboards.
The restoration of the Cohn Learning
Center on the 6th Floor of the Lions Building is
progressing. The mechanical subcontractor continues
to install the new HVAC system components and make
connections to the new spaces that have been
constructed throughout the floor. The plumbers are
working on roughing in the plumbing to the restrooms
and floor tile has begun to be installed. Heating
hot water lines have been run to the simulation labs
and insulated. Lights and receptacles are being
installed at various locations on the floor.
The electricians are preparing for
the installation of switch gear in the new 2nd Floor
mechanical room. Large conduit has been run to the
new room, lights have been installed, a new
electrical panel has been mounted and the fire alarm
panel has been relocated to the 2nd Floor. The
general contractor is working throughout the
building; completing framing, installing waterproof
membrane and floor tiles in bathrooms, installing
door frames, doors and door hardware, etc. The iron
workers have been completing their welding on the
exterior stairwell framework, stairs and handrails.
The testing company has been called in to perform
the required examination and testing of the welds.
Here are highlights of work that has
been accomplished during the past two weeks.
Repair Work at 1542 Tulane Ave.:
- Lighting:
- The electrical contractor completed the
installation of new light fixtures in the
lounges on the 6th and 7th Floor.
- Crews completed installing light
fixtures in the stairwells.
- They completed the installation of the
new light fixtures in the 5th, 6th and 7th
Floor conference rooms.
- Three new recessed lights were installed
over the front entryway.
- The electrical contractor continues
installing new light fixtures in conference
rooms on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Floors.
- Lounge Areas:
- Crews completed installing the suspended
ceiling grid in the lounges on Floors 4 to
7.
- The sprinkler contractor installed
sprinkler heads in the 6th Floor lounge.
- The mechanical contractor installed air
conditioning ducting and diffuser grills in
the lounges on the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and
7th Floors.
- Furniture:
- The furniture vendor arranged furniture
in offices on the 5th and 6th floors.
- The installation and arrangement of
furniture for all offices planned for first
phase occupancy has been finished.
- Cleaning:
- All rooms on the 8th floor are complete.
- All rooms on the 7th Floor are complete.
- All rooms on the 6th Floor are complete.
- The cleaning crews began cleaning on the
5th Floor. Several offices have been
completed.
- Others started cleaning the restrooms.
- LSUHSC Facility Services continued to work
on punch list items on Floors 5 to 8.
- They demolished the temporary loading
dock ramp in the parking garage driveway.
- Flooring:
- Crews prepared the concrete subfloors in
the lounges for the final floor covering on
Floors 4 to 7.
- The flooring contractor completed
installation of the carpeting in the 6th and
7th Floor lounges.
- Misc.:
- The general contractor continued making
drywall repairs in offices on the 2nd, 3rd,
and 5th Floors and started work in the
auditorium.
- LSUHSC Facility Services painted
Conference Rooms 728 and 729.
- Ceiling tiles have been installed in the
conference rooms on the 5th, 6th and 7th
Floors.
- They started making wall repairs in Room
545.
Dental School Auditoriums A & B:
- The general contractor installed insulation
on the west and north walls of Auditorium A and
installed new sheetrock on all walls in
Auditorium A.
- They prepped the sheetrock on the all
wall of Auditorium A for the wall panels.
- The sheetrock in Auditorium A was taped
and floated.
- Riser framing for the new seating in
Auditorium A has been installed.
- Rebar and foam for the riser seating in
Auditorium A is now in place.
- Crews installed cementitious board at
the base of the walls in Auditoriums A and
B.
- The general contractor installed insulation
and sheetrock on the north, east, west and south
walls in Auditorium B.
- Crews prepped the sheetrock on the south
and west walls for the installation of the
new wall panels in Auditorium B.
- Framing for the ceiling in Auditorium B
has been installed.
- Crews installed wood blocking for the
handrails and baseboard in Auditorium B.
- Sheetrock was installed in the ceiling
troughs in Auditorium B.
- The electrical contractor installed conduit
and junction boxes for the down lights in the
front of Auditorium A.
- Electricians installed wiring for two
rows of down lights in Auditorium A.
- Conduit for the remaining rows of down
lights in Auditorium A was installed.
- Crews installed conduit for the lighting
homeruns in Auditorium A.
- Wall sconce device boxes were mounted on
the east and south walls in Auditorium A.
- The wiring for the wall sconce boxes has
been finished.
- The electrical contractor installed
conduit stub-ups for the data connections in
Auditorium A.
- The electrical contractor mounted the
electrical panel in Auditorium B.
- The insulation contractor installed
insulation in the block walls and ceiling of the
mechanical room.
Dental School 6th and 8th
Floor Laboratory Renovations:
- The general contractor framed the exterior
wall on the north side of Suite 8405.
- Crews framed the new door openings.
- The general contractor framed up the
east exterior walls.
- The contractor installed sheetrock on
the south wall in 8405A.
- They installed framing for the door in
the microscope room (8405E).
- Crews installed sheetrock on the west
wall in 8405D and on the east wall in 8405K.
- The contractor framed the doors in Room
8405F.
- The mechanical contractor tied-in the new
vacuum, gas, hot water, and cold water lines for
Room 6335.
- They removed the old ice water,
de-ionized water, and steam lines in Rooms
6335 and 6333.
- They insulated the supply duct on the
north side of Room 8405.
- Piping for the two safety showers in
Room 8405 was installed.
- The supply duct on the south side of
Room 8405 has been insulated.
- Horizontal gas piping in the walls of
Rooms 8405D and 8405G were installed.
- They pressure tested the vacuum, air,
and de-ionized water piping in Suite 8405.
- The electrical subcontractor installed
conduit, receptacle boxes, and wiring for the
light switches in all the rooms of Suite 8405.
- They installed conduit for the
peninsulas in Room 8405.
- They wired the outlets on the north and
south walls of Suite 8405A and 8405B.
- Electricians installed wiring for
electrical receptacles on the east wall of
Suite 8405B.
- They installed electrical boxes for the
base cabinets in 8405A and 8405B.
- The electrical contractor installed
wiring in the junction boxes on the east
wall of Suite 8405B.
- They installed electrical junction boxes
for the base cabinets in Rooms 8405C, 8405D,
8405E, 8405F, 8405G, 8405H and 8405I.
- They installed wiring in the electrical
junction boxes for the base cabinets in the
same rooms.
Library Commons Project:
- The contractor installed fire sprinklers in
multi-media Room1 and 2 and the reception area.
- The contractor installed fire sprinklers
in the lounge near the windows.
- The contractor installed fire sprinklers
have been installed in the mechanical room.
- Mens restroom sprinklers were installed.
- Sprinkler heads have been installed in
the café area.
- Crews taped and floated the sheetrock in the
multi-media rooms.
- They installed the fire roll-up door in the
3rd Floor Lobby.
- The roll-up door covers have also been
installed.
- The contractor removed the fire alarm
conduit from above the roll up door location.
- The contractor installed ceiling support
wires in the cafe.
- The contractor installed sheetrock in the
ceiling above the coffee bar.
- The contractor installed the dropped ceiling
supports near the window wall.
- LSUHSC Facility Services electricians
installed fixtures in the café lounge area.
- They installed light fixtures along the
window wall.
Lions/LSU Clinic Permanent Repairs
and Mitigation:
- The mechanical subcontractor installed zones
for the 1st Floor AHU supply lines in the
mechanical room on the S. Prieur St. side.
- Plumbers installed domestic water lines
in the bathrooms on the 1st Floor, Bolivar
St. side and installed thimbles in the new
stairwell for the storm drain.
- They insulated domestic hot and cold
water pipes in the bathroom on the 1st
Floor, S. Prieur side.
- Crews installed additional supply duct
in the mechanical room for two zones on the
1st Floor AHU on the S. Prieur St. side.
- They installed relief vents for the
temporary medical air and vacuum compressors
on the 1st Floor.
- A crew worked to install supply duct for
three zones for the 1st Floor AHU located in
the mechanical room.
- They roughed in the waste and vent lines
for the urinals and the water closets in the
bathroom on the 1st Floor, Bolivar St. side
of the building.
- The mechanical subcontractor insulated
supply duct on the 6th Floor Gravier St. side of
the building.
- Crews insulated the heating hot water
lines and supply duct on the 6th Floor on
the S. Prieur St. side of the floor.
- They installed and insulated supply duct
in the 6th Floor simulation rooms.
- They installed supply grills on the 6th
Floor, CSRB side.
- Crews insulated heating hot water lines
on the 6th Floor in the simulation rooms.
- Two fresh-air ducts were connected to
the new 6th Floor AHU.
- They insulated supply duct in the
bathroom on the 6th Floor, S. Prieur St.
side.
- Crews moved supply duct to install
lights on the 6th Floor on the CSRB side.
- The mechanical subcontractor installed
vacuum, air, & gas pipe connections to the
island across from the fume hood in the 7th
Floor lab.
- They installed exhaust duct connections
for the fume hood and installed the
backsplash for the same island.
- Two sinks and faucets were installed in
the lab.
- Five air and gas turrets were installed
in the lab and the gas lines were connected
to the turrets.
- They also installed the remaining
shelves and racks on the peninsulas along
the Gravier Street side of the building.
- The mechanical subcontractor installed
p-trap and drain line connections for all
sinks and the fume hood in the 7th Floor
lab.
- They installed filler panels for the
fume hood and adjacent cabinets and cleaned
and wiped down all lab countertops and
cabinets.
- The mechanical subcontractor finished
installing and testing the medical air in
the 7th Floor lab.
- The newly connected natural and medical
gas was tested in the 7th Floor lab.
- The mechanical subcontractor installed
air outlets to two locations for air tables
in the 7th Floor lab.
- The mechanical subcontractor installed
return air grilles on the 7th Floor.
- The electrical subcontractor installed
lights in the 2nd Floor build out area.
- They installed 4 inch riser conduit
going from the 2nd Floor to the 1st Floor on
the S. Prieur St. side of the building.
- They mounted a cabinet for a new
electrical panel in the 2nd Floor mechanical
room.
- They moved the fire panel to the main
fire room on the 2nd Floor, Bolivar side.
- The electrical subcontractor installed
lights on the 6th Floor, on the CSRB side of the
building.
- They pulled wire for dimmer switches on
the 6th Floor, CSRB side.
- A crew installed wire mold for the
electrical receptacles on the peninsulas
along the Gravier St. side of the building.
- Electrical receptacles were installed
for casework along the Bolivar St. wall.
- The electrical subcontractor installed
outlets in 6 runs of wire mold on the 7th Floor.
- Electrical receptacles were installed
for casework along the Bolivar St. wall.
- Electrical receptacles and data cables
were installed on the lab benches in the 7th
Floor laboratory.
- The iron subcontractor welded the exterior
stairwell saddles on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th,
5th, and 6th Floors.
- They finished the last welds on the roof
decking and finished welding the stairs on
the 3rd level.
- Iron workers welded the hand rails on
the 1st through the 6th Floors stairs.
- They cleaned, ground, and finished the
hand rails on the 1st through the 6th Floors
in the exterior stairwell.
- The contractor welded clips on the 1st
and 6th Floors of the north and west sides
of the exterior stairwell tower.
- They welded the bathroom partition
support in the bathrooms on the 1st Floor,
Bolivar St. side.
- The sprinkler subcontractor installed
sprinkler heads on the 2nd Floor in the new
build out area.
- The sprinkler subcontractor raised
sprinkler pipe in the 2nd Floor equipment
room.
- Crews moved and installed new sprinkler
heads on the 6th Floor.
- Sprinkler trim rings are being installed
on the 6th Floor South side.
- The casework subcontractor installed 3
shelving units, 3 cabinets, and 4 counters in
the 7th Floor laboratory.
- Four dividing shelving units were
installed in the center of the casework.
- Three sections of wire mold were run.
- Four lab bench shelves and eight
backsplashes are in place.
- The contractor installed door hardware on
the 7th Floor.
- They installed glass in the new door
frames on the 6th Floor, CSRB side.
- The contractor installed door frames on
the 6th Floor in the simulation rooms.
- They installed two door frames and five
doors in offices along the Gravier St. side
on the 6th Floor.
- They installed door hardware on the 6th
Floor CSRB side and installed floor tile in
the bathroom on the 6th Floor.
- They hung sheetrock in the bathrooms on
the 6th Floor on the Bolivar St. and S.
Prieur St. side of the building.
- Crews placed CMU on the 1st Floor around
the door frame in the CSRB side lobby and
placed CMU on the 1st Floor in the telephone
closet on the CSRB side.
- A crew installed CMU on the 1st Floor on
the Gravier St. side of the hallway closest
to the CSRB.
- Crews installed CMU walls in the
bathrooms on the 1st Floor.
- The contractor insulated exhaust
transfer duct for offices along the Gravier
Street side.
- A crew installed water resistant
sheetrock for the 1st Floor Womens restroom
(S. Prieur St. side and floated the
sub-floor for the Mens restroom.
- They installed the sub-floor for the
Mens and Womens restrooms on the Bolivar St.
Side of the 6th Floor.
- Water membrane was installed on the
floor of the bathroom on the 6th Floor, S.
Prieur St. side.
- The contractor installed floor tile in
both the Mens and Womens restrooms on the
6th Floor.
- The contractor installed ceiling tiles
on the 6th Floor CSRB side.
- A crew installed corner bead and
sheetrock on the 6th Floor on the Gravier
St./S. Prieur St. side of the building.
- Metal lathe is being installed on the
CSRB side of the 1st Floor.
- The contractor installed ceiling tiles
on the 6th Floor on the CSRB side.
- Sheetrock was hung on the fur downs in
the new lecture room on the 6th Floor.
- Crews installed sheetrock on the fur
downs in the new lecture room on the 6th
Floor West side and installed the inside
metal trim for the windows in the northwest
corner on the 1st Floor.
- Crews installed sheetrock on the fur
downs in the lecture room on the 6th Floor
and installed trim for the windows on the
north side of the 1st Floor.
- They are installing granite in the
elevator lobby on the 1st Floor, Gravier St.
side.
MEB 4th Floor - MDL #5
Renovations:
- The contractor connected cables to the A/V
control boxes.
- The contractor is testing the A/V equipment.
MEB 2nd Floor Lobby Renovation:
- The contractor installed the ceiling grid
outside of Lecture Hall B.
- They installed the door & storefront window
frames for the Medical Center Stores location.
- The contractor installed storefront window
framing for Campus Office Stores and installed
columns and storefront window framing for
Medical Center Stores.
- The contractor installed columns in the
Campus Office Stores area and ceiling wire in
the elevator lobby.
- The contractor completing the skim coating
of the honeycombed ceiling and painted the
ceiling on the Bolivar St. side of the lobby.
- The contractor installed the Blue Sky
wallpaper.
- The contractor removed ductwork from the
lobby in the southwest corner.
- The contractor painted ductwork prior to its
installation.
Residence Hall 2nd Floor
Expansion:
- In preparation for the installation of the
new mailboxes, the contractor removed electrical
conduits between Towers A&B.
- The contractor installed the ceiling and
floor tracks of the metal framing for the new
mailboxes.
- The contractor installed the metal framing
for the new mailboxes.
- The contractor installed sheetrock on the
metal framing for the mailboxes.
- The contractor removed a portion of the curb
to allow for the installation of the new
automatic storefront door.
- The contractor taped, floated, and painted
the mailbox partition.
Downtown Landscaping Project:
- Facility Services completed grading the area
on the right side of the steps in front of 1542
Tulane Avenue.
- The crew installed landscape edging in the
large area to the left of the steps and adjusted
sprinkler head heights to coincide with the
final grade.
- Facility Services completed installing the
backflow preventer for the irrigation system.
- LSUHSC Facility Services completed the
installation of the irrigation system for the
landscaping in front of 1542 Tulane Avenue.
- The system is now energized and fully
automated.
- Crews have begun planting shrubs in the new
planting beds.
