Classes that were displaced
from the Cohen Learning Center
by Hurricane Katrina will resume with the new
academic year in the new Learning Center facilities now located on the 6th
Floor of the Lions/LSU Clinic Building. The contractor is completing work on a number
of small items related to the project and a punch
list has been agreed upon.
The final group of faculty and
staff are tentatively scheduled to move back into
1542 Tulane Ave. on or
about August 11th. Furniture has been delivered to the 2nd Floor
and set up in offices and the lounge. The final cleaning of spaces on the 2nd Floor
is nearly finished. The coffee kiosk has been delivered to the
1st Floor and the installation has begun. Temporary repairs have been completed and
seating provided in the 1st Floor auditorium so that
it can be used for large group meetings until the
permanent repairs are designed and completed.
The renovations to MDL #3 are
nearing completion. The contractor installed the new marker
boards and the cove base along the perimeter wall. The door for the partition Storage Room 4210A
was installed and the ceiling in front of Room 4210A
was repaired. Crews have begun working on the punch list
items.
The roof replacement project at
the Allied Health/Nursing Building is winding down. The new roof is in place on all of the major
sections of the building roof, including the roof of
the atrium. Workers are completing a variety of tasks
required to complete the project. The exterior ladder was installed on the
elevator penthouse. The contractor completed installing the
aluminum flashing around the atrium roof and the 4th
Floor ledge near Bolivar St. Workers removed and re-applied the existing
caulk in the joints along the
Bolivar Street side of
the Atrium and replaced the granite panels where the
exterior elevator connected to the building.
The contractor responsible for
replacing the Resource Center
roof is scheduled to be on site and begin work on
Monday, August 10th. A work trailer is already on site; located
across Prieur St. from the
Resource Center. During the course of the project some odors
can be expected to be noticeable when the heated
petroleum-based products are applied as part of the
new roofing system.
The exhaust fans that were
located on the roof of the Dental
Clinic Building and the Power
Plant have been replaced in an intensive two week
project.
The old fans were replaced in pairs to minimize the
interruption of the functions that each fan
supported within the building.
The final steps in the
renovations to the Dental Auditoriums A & B are
underway. The majority of the work has focused on the
state of the art audio/visual system that has been
installed in the rooms. The contractor completed
installing the electrical power for the projectors
and the projectors were installed. Heat tests were conducted on the projectors. The A/V contractor tested the sound system in
Auditorium A and programmed the Crestron control
panel.
The network cables in both auditoriums have been
tested.
The contractor continues to complete remaining
punch-list items in both Auditoriums. Auditorium A is scheduled for final
completion on August 7th.
The contractor responsible for
replacing the air handling units in the MEB
completed the new insulation, electrical wiring, hot
water piping and controls for air handling unit 6-B
and 7-B.
Crews are testing and balancing the new units. Facility Services moved the temporary AC
units from the B to the A Quadrant (corner of
South Roman Street
and the MEB loading dock) in preparation for the
installation of the next pair of AHUs.
The demolition in the
Physiology labs being renovated on the 7th Floor of
the MEB has been completed. Workers patched walls in Room 7241, 7244 and
7250 and the repairs have been taped and floated. Wood blocking for the new casework was
installed in Rooms 7241, 7244, and 7250. New sheetrock was installed by the window
wall in Room 7241 and 7250.
The renovations to the 2nd
Floor lobby in the MEB have entered the final
stages.
The contractor grouted the granite columns. Carpet has been installed in Medical Center
Stores and the floor in Campus Office Stores has
been prepped for the carpet. The contractor caulked all of the door frames
and adjusted the hidden doors. The flooring contractor replaced damaged tile
in the lobby and installed tile base in the two
storage rooms. The furniture contractor completed the
furniture installation.
Work continues in the expanded
lobby of the Residence Hall. The millwork contractor installed wood
cladding around the network closet. Ceiling tiles, wall sconces and recess lights
were installed in the recreation room. The stairwell
doors and door frames were primed. The flooring contractor installed porcelain
bases in back corner lobby area of the A & C Towers. They grouted the porcelain base and prepped
the floor for the carpet installation in the C Tower
lobby area. Crews framed the wall and soffit in front of
the telephone panel in the A Tower lobby area.
Here are highlights of work
that has been accomplished during the past two
weeks.
LIONS/LSU CLINIC PERMANENT REPAIRS AND MITIGATION:
- The contractor terminated
the data cables in the network closet for the
conference room tables on the 6th Floor.
- Workers painted the lobby
desk on the 1st Floor.
- They ran conduit and
pulled wire to the temporary MRI trailer for the
disconnect switch and transformer.
- Emergency power has been
provided to the fire pump room.
- Lightning rods for the
rooftop vent hoods were installed.
REPAIR WORK AT 1542 TULANE AVE.:
- LSUHSC Facility Services
installed outlet covers in Room 235J.
- LSUHSC painters applied
touch-up paint in the 1st Floor offices along
the Tulane Ave. side of the building.
- Electricians made
electrical repairs in Rooms 235J & 235K.
- Facility Services replaced
the door glass in Room 230.
- The contractor installed
sheetrock over the 1 x 1 ceiling tiles in the
1st Floor lounge.
- The contractor removed the
cinderblock pipe chase on the 1st and 3rd Floors
of the parking garage.
- They installed CMU for
the pipe chase on the 1st and 2nd Floors of
the parking garage.
- The coffee kiosk for the
1st Floor lounge was delivered and the
installation of the unit began.
- The electrical
contractor adjusted the electrical power
receptacle elevation for the kiosk
equipment.
- Workers roughed-in
conduit for additional network drops.
- The electrical
contractor roughed-in outlet boxes for the
coffee kiosk equipment.
- The network wiring
contractor installed data runs in Rooms 228 and
240A.
- The cleaning contractor is
cleaning the 2nd Floor restrooms.
MDL #3 RENOVATIONS:
- The contractor installed
the new marker boards.
- They installed cove base
along the perimeter wall.
- The door for the partition
Storage Room 4210A was installed.
- The contractor repaired
the ceiling in front of Room 4210A and began
working on punch list items.
ALLIED HEALTH/NURSING ROOF
REPLACEMENT:
- The
exterior ladder was installed on the elevator
penthouse.
- The contractor completed
installing the aluminum flashing around the
atrium roof.
- They installed aluminum
flashing around the 4th Floor ledge near Bolivar Street.
- Workers removed and
re-applied the existing caulk in the joints
along the Bolivar Street side of the Atrium.
- The contractor replaced a
granite panel where the exterior elevator
connected to the building.
DENTAL SCHOOL
EXHAUST FAN REPLACEMENT: A new project to replace the old exhaust fans
on the Clinic Building
and the Power Plant began on Saturday, July 11th. A crane was set up in the horseshoe to lift
the fans onto the roof of the
Clinic Building.
- As each fan was replaced,
the fume hoods affected were out of service. Lab occupants were asked to take the
necessary precautions with any chemicals since
there would be no exhaust in the affected rooms
during this work. The entire schedule is shown below:
- July 13th: 8:00 AM thru 4:30 PM. Fans F13 and F14 will be replaced;
affecting fume hoods in 7315 and 6313.
- July 14th: 8:00 AM thru 4:30 PM. Fans F17 and F18 will be replaced;
affecting fume hoods in 6329 and 6335.
- July 15th: 8:00 AM thru 4:30 PM. Fans F20 and F22 will be replaced;
affecting fume hoods in 7339 and 7333.
- July 16th: 8:00 AM thru 4:30 PM. Fans F62 and F39 will be replaced;
affecting fume hoods in 7325 and 7323.
- July 17th: 8:00 AM thru 4:30 PM. Power House ventilator will be
replaced; affecting the Power House.
- July 20th: 8:00 AM thru 4:30 PM. Restrooms exhaust fans on 3rd Floor
of the Clinic Building will be replaced.
- July 25th:
8:00
AM thru 2:00 PM. The crane will be in the horseshoe to
remove old fans from roof.
- The project is complete.
DENTAL AUDITORIUMS A & B
RENOVATIONS:
- The contractor completed
installing the electrical power for the
projectors.
- The A/V contractor
finished installing the projectors.
- The electrical contractor
tested the network cables in Auditoriums A and
B.
- A/V contractor conducted
heat tests for the projectors in Auditorium A.
- The A/V contractor tested
the sound system in Auditorium A and programmed
the Crestron control panel.
- Workers completed the
baseboard punch list items.
- The contractor continued
to complete remaining punch-list items in both
Auditoriums.
MEB AIR HANDLING UNIT
REPLACEMENT:
- The contractor completed
installing the new insulation, electrical
wiring, and controls for air handling unit 6-B
and 7-B.
- The contractor finished
installing new hot water piping for AHU 6-B and
7B.
- The contractor tested and
balanced air handling unit 6-B and 7-B.
- Facility Services moved
the temporary AC units from the B to the A
Quadrant (corner of South Roman Street
and the MEB loading dock) in preparation for the
installation of the next pair of AHUs.
MEB 7th FLOOR PHYSIOLOGY LAB
RENOVATIONS:
- The contractor finished
removing the existing casework, plumbing, and
electrical.
- Crews removed sheetrock in
Rooms 7221, 7241, & 7250.
- Workers patched walls in
Room 7241, 7244 and 7250. The repairs have been taped and floated.
- The contractor installed
wood blocking in Rooms 7241, 7244, and 7250.
- They installed sheetrock
by the window wall in Room 7241 and 7250.
MEB 2nd FLOOR LOBBY
RENOVATIONS:
- The contractor grouted the
granite columns.
- They installed carpet in
Medical Center Stores.
- Workers smoothed the pans
of the concrete ceiling.
- They leveled the floor in
preparation of the carpet in Campus Office
Stores and caulked around the thresholds for
both stores.
- The contractor caulked all
of the door frames.
- The furniture contractor
completed furniture installation.
- The flooring contractor
replaced damaged tile in the lobby and installed
tile base in the two storage rooms.
- The contractor adjusted
hidden doors.
RESIDENCE HALL LOBBY EXPANSION:
- The millwork contractor
installed wood cladding around the network
closet.
- The contractor installed
ceiling tiles in the recreation room.
- Wall sconces and recess
lights were installed in the recreation room.
- The contractor primed the
stairwell doors and frames.
- The flooring contractor
installed porcelain bases in back corner lobby
area of the A & C Towers.
- Crews framed the wall and
soffit in front of the telephone panel in the A
Tower lobby area.
- The flooring contractor
grouted the porcelain base and prepped the floor
for the carpet installation in the C Tower lobby
area.
EXTERIOR/LANDSCAPING:
- Facility Services
completed the removal of plant material from the
front of the Roman Street Garage along
Tulane Avenue.
- Facility Services
completed the final grading of the planting beds
on the Tulane Avenue side of the Roman
Street Garage.
