The next three permanent repair and hazard mitigation projects for major campus buildings are being let out for bid by the Office of Facility Planning and Control. The Allied Health/Nursing Bldg. project is being advertised today and the bids are scheduled to be received on October 7th. The advertisements for the Student Residence Hall will be published on September 16th and bids will be opened on October 14th. The Resource Center project will be advertised on September 23rd and the bids will be opened on October 21st. The process of evaluating the bids received for each project, awarding the work, and getting the contract documents prepared and executed takes time, but we are hopeful that all the contracts will be in place before the end of the calendar year.

Work on the expansion and renovation of the Residence Hall lobby is substantially complete. The A/V contractor programmed the digital signage display in the expanded lobby area. The contractor installed the wall covering behind the security desk area and on the wall adjacent to the mailboxes. The swing door for the security desk was installed and the electrical outlet was trimmed out. The contractor installed the stainless steel border around the mailboxes. The pool table and the ping pong table were delivered and set up in the recreation room. Furniture was delivered and set up throughout the 2nd Floor.

The contractor replacing the roof on the Resource Center has made good progress on the initial phase of the project. Thirty of the thirty-four roof drains have been lowered and the temporary roofing has been installed. They have been starting work during the middle of the nights to reduce weather delays and to minimize disruptions to the occupants of the offices beneath the roof drains. However the increased frequency of rain showers has caused some delays.

The remaining work on the 1st Floor coffee kiosk at the Clinical Education Building has been completed. The contractor powered up the equipment (refrigerators and ice machine) and made the final connections for the coffee maker. LSUHSC Computer Services installed and connected the cash register. Painters touched-up the walls and door frames in the coffee kiosk area.

The project to modify the entrances into 1542 Tulane Ave. from the parking garage is progressing. The contractor re-routed electrical conduit in the garage at the 1st Floor ADA Ramp. Workers re-routed conduit and wiring for the status switch on the exit door in the garage. They erected a temporary wall at the 1st floor garage/building entrance and removed the metal door and frame. The sprinkler contractor installed additional sprinkler heads at the 1st Floor garage/building entrance.

Other miscellaneous tasks were also completed. Workers contractor installed conduit for the fire alarm panel enunciator in the basement and they re-routed the fire alarm annunciator wiring and the Cox cable wiring on the 1st level of the parking garage. The floor tile was laid in Room 122F (Women’s Restroom). The contractor installed door locks for the pipe chase in the parking garage and connected the gas line piping on the 1st level of the parking garage. The plumbing contractor re-routed and insulated the chilled water return piping on the 1st level of the parking garage.

The remaining work in the Dental Clinic Auditoriums is being completed. The A/V contractor adjusted the projectors and screen image in Auditorium B. They tested the fiber, programmed the podium monitors made programming adjustments to the A/V and podium equipment in Auditorium B. The microphones for the podium were installed and the volume settings were adjusted. The A/V contractor labeled and tested the A/V communication cables in Room 4202B that communicate with components in Auditorium B.

The network wiring crew pulled, connected, configured and tested the network wires for the wireless access connections in Auditoriums A and B. The contractor adjusted the acoustical wall panels in both Auditoriums A and B.

The MEB Air Handling Unit project continues on schedule. Crews completed insulating the hot water piping for AHU 4-D. The contractor installed the electrical and controls for both AHUs. Workers are testing and balancing air handling units 4-D and 5-D. Facility Services relocated the temporary A/C units from the 4th and 5th Floor Quadrant D to the 4th and 5th Floor Quadrant C (corner of Bolivar Street and MEB loading dock). They started the temporary A/C units and began monitoring their performance. The contractor closed Bolivar Street, set-up their crane and started preparations for the start of the demolition of AHU 4-C and 5-C.

Renovations to the Physiology labs on the 7th Floor of the MEB are proceeding. The contractor completed installing the ceiling grid and the new light fixtures in Rooms 7221 and 7244.
