Subject: Hurricane Katrina Recovery – Update #102
Posted: September 25, 2009
We have recently initiated
three new projects on campus. Work has begun on the
renovations to the last of the Multi-Disciplinary
Labs; MDL 4. The improvements will model the work
completed in the three other labs with a new layout,
new lab casework and countertops and state of the
art audio/visual systems. The second is a project to
modernize the ventilation and HVAC systems serving
the Morgue Autopsy in the MEB. The third new project
will replace old fencing at the City Park Campus.
The initial demolition work has begun at all three
sites.
The bid process for the
permanent repair and mitigation projects at the
Allied Health/Nursing Building, the Residence Hall
and the Resource Center continues on schedule. The
bids for all three projects have been advertised.
Pre-bid conferences are scheduled to be held during
the next two weeks. Unless addenda to the bid
documents are needed late in the process, the bids
will be received and opened 30 days after the dates
of the respective advertisements.
Inclement weather
continues to slow progress on the Resource Center
roofing project. The contractor is still beginning
work in the middle of the night in an attempt to
avoid the typical summer afternoon thunderstorms,
but the rainy weather patterns have frequently
produced night time and early morning showers. Crews
have continued to remove the old roofing and place
the temporary two-ply system along the Gravier St.
side of the roof as weather permits.
The contractor demolished
walls and ceilings in Rooms 203 and 203A at 1542
Tulane for the new 2nd Floor garage/building
entrance. The electrical utilities (lights and
outlets) were removed in Rooms 203 and 242B. Crews
framed up the wall for the 2nd Floor entrance and
for the opening for the utility access panel in Room
203. The ductwork for the existing fan coil unit in
Room 203 was removed and the mechanical contractor
installed isolation valves on the heating and
chilled water lines; allowing them to remove the
existing fan coil unit and piping. The new walls
were framed in Rooms 203 and 242B and workers
created a rough opening between Rooms 202A and 203.
Work on the 1st Floor
garage/building entrance also continues. Crews
installed a new door in the main lobby. The
contractor taped and floated the new walls on the
1st Floor and cut the opening for the new 1st Floor
entryway. They primed the sheetrock for the 1st
Floor garage entrance and the sheetrock wall in the
main lobby.
Other work at the Clinical
Education Building included the installation of the
replacement air curtain surround for the kiosk.
Workers installed mini-blinds and wall angle for the
curtain wall in the 1st Floor lounge. The vending
machines were relocated to the 1st Floor lounge and
wiring for the security cameras at the coffee kiosk
was run. The glass contractor replaced the damaged
window glass in Room 102 and the door glass in Room
108.
The current phase of the
AHU replacement project at the Medical Education
Building continued on schedule. The contractor
demolished the old AHU 4-C and 5-C and installed the
new AHU 4-C and 5-C. They finished installing
ductwork, piping and insulation for both units.
Workers continue completing the electrical and
control work for AHU 4-C and 5-C. Workers installed
ceiling tiles in the hallway outside of Mechanical
Room 5-C. AHU parts for 4-A, 4-B, 5-A and 5-B were
moved to the T-lot for temporary storage. The next
phase is scheduled to begin in another week.
The contractor continues
to complete the final tasks in the Residence Hall
lobby expansion project. They installed the door
frame and door by the telephone panel. The
countertop for the security desk has been installed.
Decorative panels were installed by the mailboxes
area and additional chairs and stools were
delivered. The contractor completed troubleshooting
the fire alarm panel. They are working punch list
items at this time.
The Facility Services
landscaping crew completed the demolition in and
around the T-lot in preparation for new landscaping.
They completed installation of the irrigation piping
and electrical wiring around the T-lot. Workers
continue placing topsoil in the planting areas
around the lot. At the City Park Campus, a
contractor removed stumps in the field between
Florida Avenue and the railroad tracks.
