FEMA reports that the PW
version and the hazard mitigation proposal for the
CSRB has moved through most of the local review
queues and is now awaiting review and approval by
the Environmental queue. The State has assured us
that they will complete their review (the last in
the local series) promptly. The final approval will
come from the $20 million queue in Washington, DC.
The corresponding proposal for the Medical Education
Building has been entered into the FEMA system and
has started through the local review queues.
We have been informed by
the Office of Facility Planning and Control that the
contracts for the permanent repairs and hazard
mitigation to the Allied Health/Nursing Building,
the Student Residence Hall, and the Resource Center
have been executed. We expect that the Notices to
Proceed will be issued for the projects instructing
the contractor to begin work not later than January
4, 2010. The pre-construction meeting has been
scheduled on Thursday, Jan. 7 at 1:00 for all 3
projects.
The roofing contractor
responsible for replacing the Resource Center roof
caulked the interior of the new glass panels in the
atrium roof and completed additional water testing.
Crews installed the cap sheet on the mechanical room
penthouse and on all of the main roof drains. The
white cap layer has been laid on the Gravier St. and
S. Prieur St. sides of the roof.
Work on the new entrances
into 1542 Tulane Ave. from the garage is
progressing. Crews installed the topping for the
concrete landing at the 1st Floor garage entrance
and installed bollards on the 1st Floor. They
painted the safety bollards, fire-sealed the pipe
penetrations, and resealed the concrete ramp on the
1st Floor. The 1st Floor project passed the State
Fire Marshall inspection. The final finish work
should be completed any day. Weather temps and
humidity have been delaying that work for the past
10 days. The contractor completed the fan coil
installation for the 2nd Floor garage corridor. They
installed and painted the door and frame for the
construction wall outside of Room 203.
The contractor completed
the pipe insulation for MEB air handling units 2-D
and 3-D. They installed the electrical and
controls for both units. Crews completed testing and
balancing AHUs 2-D and 3-D. Facility Services moved
the temporary A/C units and installed them in
Quadrant C of the 2nd and 3rd Floors and removed the
temporary wall in Campus Stores. The contractor
demolished AHU 2-C and AHU 3-C and completed the
installation of AHU 2-C and the associated ductwork.
The renovations to MDL 4
are proceeding on schedule. New ceiling grid was
installed in Rooms 4210, 4112A, and 4215A. The floor
in the main MDL room was patched and leveled and the
VCT tile was laid. They patched and leveled the
floors in Rooms 4215A and 4210 and laid the new tile
in both rooms. The contractor installed duct work
and HVAC diffusers in the main MDL room and roughed
in new gas pipe in the main MDL room. Workers are
relocating sprinkler heads in the main MDL room.
The contractor demolished
the old sheetrock and wall framing in the 7th Floor
lab space being renovated in the Lions/LSU Clinic
Building. Workers installed three valves on the
heating hot water lines and continued the mechanical
demolition. On the 8th Floor, the contractor framed
the curved fur down in the main conference room and
the doorway leading into the small conference room.
The elevator lobby ceiling was framed up. Crews hung
sheetrock on the fur down in the main entrance,
around columns in the large conference room and in
the copy room. The electricians roughed in the
electrical wiring for the small conference room and
the Director’s office.
The fence replacement
project is substantially complete. The contractor
installed the remaining fence fabric along the
DeSaix Subdivision; all of the neighborhood chain
link fence work is new complete. The contractor
removed the swing gates and posts located at the Castine St. and Campus Rd. entrances.
Workers continued
installing ductwork inside the MEB Autopsy Room and
above the cooler and the freezer as part of the
exhaust system project. The contractor framed up the
soffit in front of the cooler and installing new
ceiling grid. They installed sheetrock for the
soffit in front of the cooler and built a wooden
form for the new block walls.
A small project to update
the signage on the Medical Education Building was
completed during the past two weeks. The contractor
removed the "LSU Medical" portion of the exterior
sign and caulked the old holes. They installed the
layout template for the new sign and drilled the
mounting holes. The new letters "LSU HEALTH SCIENCES
CENTER" were installed and the wiring was finished.
The new sign is fully functional.
Portions of the front of
the Student Residence Hall above the new, expanded
lobby area are being waterproofed following the
completion of the lobby expansion project. Work has
been underway for some time. The contractor replaced
