Inclement weather over the
past two weeks has slowed work on the Resource
Center roof. The contractor was able to complete the
installation of the cap sheet on the main roof deck.
The hat channel which will support the parapet wall
channels was installed on the Bolivar St. and S.
Prieur St. sides of the roof.
Work on the entrances from
the garage into the Clinical Education Building is
nearing completion. The entrance floor on the 1st
Floor was prepped and two coats of finish paint were
applied. The hand rails for the entrance were primed
and painted. The 2nd Floor fire alarm devices were
roughed in and mounted and the return registers were
installed.
The air handler
replacement project in the MEB continues on
schedule. Facility Services began monitoring the
temporary A/C units that were relocated to Quadrant
C of the 2nd and 3rd Floors. The old AHU 2-C and AHU
3-C were demolished and the new units were
installed. The chilled and hot water piping for AHU
2-C and AHU 3-C was run and the pipes were
insulated. The ductwork, electrical and control
wiring for both units was installed.
Workers demolished the
existing duct work between AHU 2-B and Lecture Hall
A. The contractor installed new ductwork, replaced
the louver and installed a new exhaust fan in
mechanical room 2-A. The new variable air volume
boxes for Lecture Hall A were installed. The
contractor completed the ductwork installation on
AHU 2-B. They installed and insulated the piping for
AHU 2-B and began to test and balance the new air
handling units. Crews also completed repairs to the
heating coils for AHU 6-C.
Renovations to MDL #4 are
progressing. The contractor ran sprinkler pipe and
relocated the sprinkler heads in the main MDL room
and Room 4210. New light fixtures were installed in
the main MDL room and in Room 4215A. New ceiling
tiles were installed in the main MDL room. The
contractor ran new audio/visual wiring in the main
MDL room and the installation of the new lab
furniture was started. The wall in Room 4210 was
taped and floated.
On the 7th Floor of the
Lions/LSU Clinic Building the contractor installed
metal studs for the new laboratory walls and
supports for the plumbing vent lines. They bored 9
holes in the concrete floor that were required for
the renovations and roughed in electrical conduit
and boxes for lighting. Crews started installing the
stud bracing
The contractor installed
metal blocking for the curved wall and the large
conference room being constructed on the 8th Floor
of the same building. Sheetrock was hung in the
small conference room and the Director’s Office.
Workers continued to rough in the lighting,
electrical power in the Director’s office and large
conference room. 8 of the 10 holes required for the
renovation were drilled in the concrete floor and
LSUHSC Facility Services ran the drain lines for the
break room.
Planned upgrades to the
audio/visual equipment in the MEB Seminar rooms
continue. The contractor completed the
installation of new A/V equipment in Seminar Room 5.
They installed the A/V screen, the electrical power
for the screen and the ceiling in Seminar Room 6.
New A/V screens were
installed in Seminar Rooms 4 and 10.
The contractor responsible
for the HVAC upgrades to the MEB Autopsy Room is
making good progress. Crews removed the sheetrock
ceiling and HVAC supply duct from the Women’s
restroom and installed the new ductwork above the
ceiling. New ceiling grid was hung in the autopsy
room. They roughed in the vacuum, hot and cold water
lines on the 1st Floor. Workers skim coated the
soffit above the cooler doors and the chase wall
inside the storage room. The chemical storage
cabinet was connected to the exhaust system and the
plumbing rough in for the autopsy tables was
finished. The contractor relocated sprinkler heads
in the autopsy room and crews began piping the acid
waste vent line for the chemical storage tank. The
soffit above the cooler doors and the wall inside
the storage room were painted. The electricians
began wiring the VAV boxes in the autopsy room.
The re-caulking of the
windows on the front of the Student Residence Hall
has been completed. The contractor removed old caulk
and applied new material around the windows on the
building elevation above the lobby expansion on the
Perdido Street side. The work has been completed for
all 9 floors.
A project to replace and
upgrade the exterior signage on the Clinical
Education Building is underway. The contractor
removed the existing lettering from the building.
The exterior wall was cleaned and prepared for the
installation of the new sign. In the basement of the
Dental Clinic Building, the contractor installed the
wash-down lines and installed the new vacuum tank.
Weather has been a factor
in efforts to complete the fence replacement
project. The contractor installed gate posts for
swing gates at the Castine Street and DeSaix Street
entrances. They installed top, bottom, and mid rails
for the fence at the same locations. Wire mesh for
the fence and additional wire ties were installed at
the Castine St. and DeSaix St. entrances.
Here are highlights of
work that has been accomplished during the past two
weeks.
RESOURCE CENTER ROOF
REPLACEMENT:
- A number of rainy days during the past two
weeks have limited the work that the contractor
was able to complete.
- The contractor continued installing white
cap sheet along the South Prieur Street side of
the roof and completed installing the cap sheet
on the main roof deck.
- The contractor installed hat channel on
parapet wall on the Bolivar and S. Prieur Street
sides to support the parapet metal panels.
1542 TULANE GARAGE
ENTRANCES:
- The contractor prepared the floor for a new
finish and applied two coats of finish paint.
- They primed and painted the hand rails on
the 1st Floor.
- The fire alarm devices at the 2nd Floor
entrance have been roughed in and mounted.
- The contractor installed return registers
for the fan coil unit at the 2nd Floor entrance.
MEB AIR HANDLING UNIT
REPLACEMENT:
- Facility Services began monitoring the
temporary A/C units in Quadrant C of the 2nd and
3rd Floors.
- The contractor completed demolition of the
old AHU 2-C and AHU 3-C.

- Crews completed the installation of the

- The contractor began to test and balance the

- The contractor relocated the sprinkler heads in
the main MDL room.
- New light fixtures were installed in the
main MDL room and in Room 4215A.
- The contractor ran new sprinkler pipe and
installed the sprinkler heads in Room 4210.
- Electrical power was connected to the new
light fixtures.
- Workers installed ceiling tiles in the main
MDL room.
- The contractor ran audio/visual wiring in
the main MDL room.
- The wall in Room 4210 was taped and floated.
- The installation of the new lab furniture is
underway in the main MDL room.
LIONS/LSU CLINIC BLDG. 7th
FLOOR LAB RENOVATIONS:
- The contractor installed metal studs for the
laboratory walls.
- They installed supports for the plumbing
vent lines.
- The contractor cored 9 holes in the concrete
floor that were required for the renovations.
- They roughed in electrical conduit and boxes
for lighting.
- Crews started installing the stud bracing
LIONS/LSU CLINIC BLDG. 8th
FLOOR RENOVATIONS:
- The contractor installed metal blocking for
the curved wall and the large conference room.
- They installed sheetrock in the small
conference room and the Director’s Office.
- Workers continued to rough in the lighting,
electrical power and run conduit in the
Director’s office and large conference room.

INSTALLATION:
- The contractor completed the installation of

- Workers installed the A/V screen in Seminar
Rooms 4 and 10.

- Caulking around the windows has been
completed for all 9 floors.

SIGNAGE:
- The contractor removed the existing
lettering from the building.
- They cleaned and prepared the exterior wall
for the new sign.
WET VACCUM TANK
REPLACEMENT:
- The contractor installed the wash-down lines
for the new vacuum tank located in the basement
of the Dental Clinic Building.
- The contractor installed the new vacuum
tank.
FENCE REPLACEMENT PROJECT:
- The contractor installed gate posts for
swing gates at the Castine Street and DeSaix
Street entrances.
- They installed top, bottom, and mid rails
for the fence at the Castine Street and DeSaix
Street entrances.
- The contractor installed the wire mesh for
the fence and additional wire ties at the

EXTERIOR/LANDSCAPING:
- Facility Services completed irrigation
piping installation along Bolivar Street
adjacent to the Residence Hall.
- Crews continued removing old vegetation and
grading along Bolivar Street adjacent to the
Residence Hall.
