Demolition work has dominated the initial phase of the permanent repair and mitigation work at the Allied Health/Nursing Building and the Resource Center. Old ceiling tiles, ceiling grid, sheetrock, studs, ductwork, wiring, bathroom fixtures, etc. are being removed from the 1st Floors of both buildings. Crews have begun running conduit between the new location for the switch gear and riser B at then Resource Center. The contractor is expected to begin staging equipment and clearing the construction site at the Residence Hall early next week.

Renovations to MDL #4 in the Medical Education Building are substantially complete. The contractor installed doors and the door hardware in Room 4210. They installed cove base in the main MDL room and Room 4210. The marker boards were hung in the main MDL room and data ports have been terminated throughout. They removed construction debris and cleaned up the main MDL room and crews buffed and waxed the floor. The new lab stools were delivered. A punch list is being developed for the contractor. MDL #4 should be available for use in the near future.

The majority of the work on the roof replacement contract for the Resource Center is complete. The contractor primed and painted all doors and door frames and touched up the metal parapet wall cap. The lightning protection system installation is finished. The remaining body of work includes installing the supports for an elevated platform which will hold the emergency generator being elevated to the roof under the permanent repair and mitigation contract. The roofer will also drill the holes through the roof and install the conduit for the generator’s fuel line and electrical wiring. We anticipate that there will also be some punch list items for the contractor to address.

The project to replace the air handling units in the MEB is in the final phase. The contractor completed insulating chilled and hot water piping for AHU 2-A, 3-A and 3-B. The electrical wiring and controls for AHU 2-A and AHU 3-A have been installed. Crews tested and balanced AHU 2-A and are completing the testing and balancing of AHU 3-A. The contractor removed and tested a malfunctioning flow measuring station on AHU 2-A. Crews have completed internal unit sealing and pipe labeling for all AHUs on the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th Floors. The Inspecting Engineer and the contractor began the building walk through and inspection. They completed their inspection of the Roof Top Units, and the new AHUs on the 2nd through 7th Floors.

The lab renovations on the 7th Floor of the Lions/LSU Clinic Building continue. The electrical contractor ran electrical conduit throughout the new lab space and workers continue to run electrical conduit on the 8th Floor from the emergency panel to the 7th Floor lab. The concrete pad for the transformer was installed in the mechanical room and conduit for the emergency power electrical circuits was run in the mechanical room. Workers are installing the VAV boxes and running new ductwork in the lab space. The contractor hung sheetrock and ceiling wall angle on Gravier St. side of the lab while others continue installing hangers for the ceiling grid and patching sheetrock.

Progress continues on the Lions/LSU Clinic 8th Floor renovations. The electrical contractor ran additional conduit in the renovated spaces. Crews installed new ductwork, the VAV boxes and sprinkler heads in the large conference room. Sheetrock was hung on the fur downs and soffits in the main conference room and can light brackets were installed in all of the fur downs. The contractor hung sheetrock in the large conference room and framed the doorway in the curved wall. Workers have started framing the curved storefront.

The contractor responsible for the HVAC upgrades for the MEB autopsy room installed glazed blocks to close the wall by the stairwell. Crews reinstalled light fixtures and painted the ceiling in the Women’s bathroom. They roughed in the waste line, vacuum, and hot and cold water line for the new autopsy table. The first new autopsy table was installed and the plumbing and electrical connections were made.

The new project to upgrade the fire alarm system in the Residence Hall is underway. The contractor installed the new fire alarm summary panel and they are installing and programming the modules in the new fire alarm summary panel. They completed installing new speakers and strobe lights on the mezzanine and on the 2nd through the 11th Floors of the A and B towers. Speakers and strobes have been installed on the mezzanine and 2nd Floor of Tower C. Crews have begun shifting the new alarm system devices from the old panel to the new fire alarm summary panel.

The landscaping crew has moved from the Downtown campus to the Dental School. They will be installing irrigation systems, updating current planting areas, developing new planting beds, etc. The crews have completed trenching for irrigation piping in the island formed by the horseshoe drive and around the perimeter of the horseshoe drive. Trenches have been dug front of the Clinic Building along Florida Ave. Workers prepared the PVC sleeves for the installation of pipe and wiring and they cored into the Clinic Building basement to provide access for the irrigation control wiring. The control wiring has been installed in the island on the field side of the horseshoe drive. Facility Services began the installation of irrigation piping on the field side of the horseshoe drive.
