The project to waterproof
the exteriors of the three main buildings on the
Dental School campus will be getting underway within
the next few weeks. The contract with the successful
bidder has been signed and the formal Notice To
Proceed has been issued. The contractor has been
instructed to begin work not later than February 28,
2011 and has 180 days to complete the work. The
pre-construction conference has been set for
February 18, 2011.
The State’s Office of
Facility Planning and Control is prepared to
advertise the contract to make permanent repairs to
the Roman St. Garage. The key part of this project
will be to elevate critical mechanical and
electrical elements of the passenger elevators to an
upper floor; protecting them from damage in a future
flooding event. The project will be scheduled to be
out for bid for 30 days and if the bid and
contracting processes proceed normally, we would
expect work on this contract to begin in the late
spring or early summer.
Work continues on the
permanent repairs and mitigation at the Allied
Health/Nursing Building. The storefront framing for
the birthing labs was installed and the sheetrock is
being hung. The contractor is roughing in the
medical gasses for the birthing labs. Structural
steel for the entryway storefront on the 2nd Floor
was erected and the storefront that will form the
new entryway into the building from the elevated
walkway was installed. Structural steel for the new
walkway window looking onto Gravier Street has also
been installed.
Wire was pulled to the new
elevated emergency life/safety generator that serves
the Allied Health/Nursing Building. The supply air
ductwork was installed on the 2nd Floor near the two
auditoriums and the contractor installed oval
ductwork into the AHU on the 2nd Floor. Crews are
fabricating the chilled water lines for the 2nd
Floor AHU near the existing auditoriums and they ran
heating hot water and chilled water pipe to the VAVs
on the 1st Floor. Conduit is being run for the fire
alarms on the 2nd Floor and the door frame for the
freight elevator was installed.
The contractor finished
correcting items on the stucco punch list and
workers primed and painted several of the 1st Floor
offices in the Allied Health/Nursing Building. The
painters are now working in all four stairwells. The
contractor installed the ceramic wall tiles in the
1st Floor restroom near Gravier Street and in the
restroom near the loading dock and exhaust fans were
installed in both of the 1st Floor restrooms.
Crews pulled wires from
the new transformer to the 3rd Floor electrical
panel for the apartment ranges in Tower A of the
Residence Hall. The contractor pulled wires from the
1st Floor electrical closet to the 3rd Floor
electrical panel for the stoves in Tower B. Wiring
was pulled from the 1st Floor electrical closet to
the new 3rd Floor electrical panel for the stoves in
Tower C. The stoves in all three Towers are now
energized through new switchgear. The contractor
finished pulling electrical feeders for the
elevators and the building elevators are now
energized through the new switchgear.
The fire pump was set in
place on the 2nd Floor of the elevated structure
behind the Residence Hall. Crews finished tying in
the domestic water line for the new pump and
domestic water has been restored to the building.
Workers are installing the main fire sprinkler line
on the 1st Floor. The contractor began caulking the
exterior wall of the new building. They painted the
walls of the electrical and generator rooms in the
elevated structure. The soffit along the balcony was
plastered and workers painted the laundry room in
Tower A. The floors of the storage room and the
laundry room in Tower A have been sandblasted.
The new desk and the
carpet were installed in the Resource Center
bookstore. The electrical receptacles for the desk
were installed. The new walls in the bookstore were
painted and the ceiling was installed. Two metal
beams and the cross beams for the mezzanine deck
were installed in the pump room. Steel decking was
installed on the 1st section of the mezzanine.
The contractor transferred
the power for the emergency lighting in the Resource
Center Library to the new switchgear. They also
transferred the power for the emergency lighting on
the 7th and 8th Floors to the new switchgear.
Conduit was run in Room 211 for the 7th and 8th
Floor AHUs. The contractor is priming the new
stainless steel doorframes on the 1st Floor and
abandoned wiring was removed from the 1st Floor.
The contractor working at
the Clinical Education Building finished removing
existing heating hot water pipes from the basement.
They are installing the 10 inch supply heating hot
water pipe and chilled water piping in the basement.
Crews removed walls in the old cafeteria area in the
basement and removed the walls in the elevator pits
# 4, 7, and 8. The freight elevator shaft wall in
the basement was also demolished. The contractor
removed elevator pit parts from elevators # 4, 7,
and 8.
Conduit was installed in
Rooms 209, 224C and 309 of the CEB. Electrical
junction boxes were installed in Room 209 and in the
3rd Floor mechanical room located on the back side
of the building. Workers continue installing
electrical conduits on the 3rd Floor to allow for
the relocation of panel 3LE. The concrete loading
dock at the rear of the building was removed and the
excavation is underway. The concrete pad for the
salt water tank in the loading dock area was
demolished. The contractor responsible for
constructing the covered walkway that connects the
CEB to the District Energy Garage has begun the
installation of the corrugated metal roof decking
over the walkway.
The upgrades to the CSRB
exhaust system are continuing. The contractor
finished installing the ceiling supports and the
metal lathe on the ceiling of the 1st Floor and
three coats of plaster were applied to the ceiling
of the 1st Floor. Floor penetrations were cut in
Rooms 630A and 533A. The contractor installed
electrical conduit in Room 139B and on the 7th Floor
near the mechanical room.
At the Dental School, the
contractor ran chilled water lines for the new AHU
above the Gross Anatomy lab and for the unit above
Oral Pathology. They pressure tested the chilled
water lines for the AHU above Oral Pathology. The
piping for the floor drain near the AHUs above the
Gross Anatomy lab and Oral Pathology was installed
and connected. Workers are fabricating the heating
hot water lines for the VAV boxes and the heating
hot water and chilled water risers. Supply ductwork
for the AHU above Oral Pathology was installed. The
lighting contractor replaced 39 light fixtures in
locker rooms on the 7th Floor and an additional 113
light fixtures throughout the 7th Floor of the
Clinic Building.
Twelve new catch basins
have been installed in the Student Athletic Fields
located at the Dental School campus. The contractor
excavated trenches for storm drain pipe to connect
the catch basins, installed the drain pipe and
backfilled the trenches. They cut the sidewalk and
trenched in four locations to connect the new catch
basins to the city storm sewer system outside the
fence.

weeks.
ALLIED HEALTH/NURSING BLDG
PERMANENT REPAIRS & MITIGATION:

- The contractor transferred the power for the

basement was demolished.
- The contractor removed elevator pit parts
from elevators # 4, 7, and 8.
- Conduit was installed in Rooms 209, 224C and
309.
- The contractor installed an electrical
junction box in room 209 and in the 3rd Floor
mechanical room located on the back side of the
building.
- Workers continued installing electrical

- The contractor ran chilled water lines for

- They began pressure testing the chilled
water lines for the AHU above Oral Pathology.
- The piping for the floor drain near the AHUs
above the Gross Anatomy lab and Oral Pathology
was installed and connected.
- Workers are fabricating the heating hot
water lines for the VAV boxes.
- The contractor is fabricating the heating
hot water and chilled water risers.
- Supply ductwork for the AHU above Oral
Pathology was installed.
DENTAL SCHOOL LIGHTING
REPLACEMENT PROJECT:
- The contractor replaced 39 light fixtures in
locker rooms on the 7th Floor.
- Crews replaced an additional 113 light
fixtures on the 7th Floor of the Clinic
Building.
DENTAL SCHOOL STUDENT
RECREATIONAL FIELDS:
- The 12 catch basins have been installed.
- The contractor excavated trenches for storm
drain pipe that connect the 12 catch basins,
installed the pipe and backfilled the trenches.
- They cut the sidewalk and trenched in four
locations to connect the new catch basins to the
city storm sewer system outside the fence.
