The project to make permanent repairs to the Student Resident Hall and complete the hazard mitigation measures is substantially complete. Key to the project was the construction of an elevated enclosure behind the Residence Hall that houses all of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment that is critical to the operation of the building. The enclosure places this critical equipment well above the flood levels that were experienced in Hurricane Katrina.

At the Allied Health/Nursing Building, workers installed dry wall the inside of the 2nd Floor auditorium and painted the interior walls. The concrete for the entrance ramp in the new auditorium was poured. Electrical conduits were installed in the 2nd Floor auditorium and a stud wall was installed between the mechanical room and auditorium. The contractor installed ceiling grid in Room 138 and installed fixtures in the 1st Floor restrooms. Light fixtures are being installed in the 2nd Floor corridors. Crews are pre-fabricating the new heating hot water lines for the bridge area. The contractor continues to install the metal framing for the wooden wall panels on the 2nd Floor.

The Resource Center contractor pulled control wires for the fire pump and installed the domestic water piping in the 1st Floor pump room. Starters for the domestic water pump and the ground wire for the roof-mounted generator were installed. The contractor insulated new water piping on the 1st Floor. Concrete was poured in the ATS room on the 2nd Floor and fire alarm wires were run for the control panel on the 1st Floor. The contractor finished installing the diesel fuel line on the 1st Floor and pressure tested the line. Workers finished welding the containment pipe for the diesel fuel line on the 8th Floor.

The contract for permanent repairs and mitigation at the Clinical Education Building is progressing. Workers prepared the pile casings for concrete in the Lakeside lot and the concrete was poured. They poured concrete for the areaway around the exterior of the Lakeside lot and the forms were removed. The contractor has begun excavating for the pile caps. Workers installed dry wall along the window wall in 3rd Floor offices and the window walls were painted. Crews demolished the elevator shaft wall in the basement and formed up for the new shaft wall. The contractor continued installing electrical conduits on the 2nd and 3rd Floors and welding and installing 8 inch chilled water pipe in the basement. The contractor replacing the air handling units at the Dental School finished installing heating hot water lines for unit 3-B in the Clinic Building and pressure tested the lines. AHU 3B was set in place and crews continue installing supply ductwork, chilled water and heating hot water lines for the 3rd Floor unit. Workers ran heating hot water lines and control wires for VAV boxes on the 3rd Floor. The VAVs for unit 3-A are being installed. The heating hot water line on the 2nd Floor of the Clinic Building was replaced. The asbestos abatement of unit 3-A and unit 6-A was completed.

The contractor insulated the ductwork for unit L2A on the 2nd Floor of the Administration Building and installed the final VAV for L2A. They continue to run the heating hot water line for unit L3A on the 3rd Floor. Workers ran control wire and installed thermostats for the 2nd Floor units. A CMU block wall was installed between the mechanical room and the Faculty Practice area in the Administration Building. Crews started installing ceiling grid on the 2nd Floor of the Administration Building.

The building exterior waterproofing contractor continued to remove old caulk, prepare the surfaces and install new backer rod and caulk on the east and west sides of the Dental School’s Clinic Building and the north side of the Administration Building.
