NOTICE: The entrance to the walkway from the 3rd floor of the parking garage will be closed from 6:00 PM on Friday, May 29th, through 6:00 AM on Monday, June 1st, in order to install a level threshold on the sliding door on the walkway at the garage.  On Thursday night, May 28th, prior to the closure, the contractor will be removing paint on the walkway.  On Friday, May 29th, during the day, the contractor will remove the door and threshold.  On Saturday, May 30th, the contractor will float the new threshold which needs to be left to dry until 6:00 AM on Monday, June 1st. 

 

The temporary entrance to the walkway will be the 1st floor of the Allied Health/Nursing Building. The Resource Center Building , Medical Education Building , Lions/LSU Clinics Building, and Clinical Sciences Research Building will be accessible by entering the Allied Health/Nursing Building on the first floor, and traveling along the walkway to each of these buildings.

 

NOTICE:  There will be a chilled water outage at the Clinical Education Building on Saturday, May 30th, beginning at 7:00 AM and lasting until approximately 5:00 PM.  Facility Services personnel will be replacing fan coil units in several offices.  There will be no air conditioning in the entire building during this outage.

 

NOTICE:  The Medical Education Building Air Handling Unit Replacement project started with the successful replacement of two rooftop air handling units that supply outside air to the labs in the Medical Education Building .  The next two air handling units to be replaced serve the Perdido Street/Bolivar Street corner of the 6th and 7th floors.  Installation of these units will start at 6:00 PM on Friday, May 29th and complete by June 12th.  In order to remove the old units and install the new units, the contractor will erect a crane on Bolivar Street .  Subsequently, Bolivar Street will be closed from the intersection with Perdido Street to the MEB loading dock from 9:00 AM on Friday, May 29th, until 9:00 PM on Sunday, May 31st.  Please note that this street closure was originally scheduled to end on Saturday, but was extended at the contractor's request.

 

In order to provide air conditioning during this two week period, Facility Services will begin setting up temporary air conditioning units on May 25th in labs and offices in the affected quadrants.  Consequently, there will be an electrical outage on Tuesday, May 26th from 5:30 AM to 7:00 AM.  During this outage there will be no power to equipment plugged into receptacles in labs and offices that are served out of main panels DL7D and DL6D which affects panels LD6A, LD6B, LD6C, LD6D, LD6E, LD6F, LD7A, LD7B, LD7C, LD7D, LD7E and LD7F.  Receptacles are labeled in the labs, identifying the panel that supplies the power to the receptacle.  During this electrical outage, breakers will be installed to serve the power panels for the temporary air conditioning units.

 

As part of the temporary air conditioning setup, Facility Services will be connecting duct work to discharge the rejected heat into the hallways or exhaust ducts.  No ceiling tiles in labs will be removed or disturbed during this process.  Power cables from the temporary power panels to the temporary air conditioning units will be installed.  Condensate drain lines from the temporary air conditioning units will be connected to sinks and/or floor drains.  

 

Please note that the exhaust will be operating normally, which means that all fume hoods will operate normally.  Air handling units on the roof will be providing conditioned air into the labs (as they normally do) and this will help to cool the lab spaces.  Additionally, the other three quadrants on these two floors, as well as the rest of the building, will have normally functioning air conditioning.

 

During the two week construction period, should there be any issue with the air conditioning in your space, please call 568-7715 or 568-7716 and provide your name, contact information, room number and description of the problem.  Occupants should not attempt to adjust the temporary units on their own. 

 

The remainder of the 6th and 7th floors will be done in the same manner, with the Bolivar/MEB loading dock quadrant being the next scheduled quadrant.  Future notices will be published with information relevant to the affected quadrants.

 

1542 TULANE AVE. :

  • The contractor stained the double doors of Room 109 and worked on punch-list items; removing paint overspray in the upper level of the auditorium and capping plumbing lines in the old section.
  • Facility Services continues painting and making electrical repairs on the 2nd Floor.

 

EXTERIOR/LANDSCAPING:

  • Facility Services prepared planting beds along Bolivar St. adjacent to the Residence Hall and continued installing new tree grates around the MEB.

 

LIONS/LSU CLINIC PERMANENT REPAIRS AND MITIGATION:    

  • The electrical contractor continued working on preparing the fire pump for certification.
    • They installed lens covers for the ceiling lights on the CSRB and Gravier Street side of the 6th Floor and repaired a stairwell light fixture on the 6th Floor.
  • The contractor painted the 5th Floor stairwell wall and installed cove base.

 

LIONS BUILDING 8th FLOOR NETWORK CLOSET:

  • The contractor framed studs and installed sheetrock.

 

RESIDENCE HALL LOBBY EXPANSION:

  • The contractor installed the remaining pendant light fixtures in the back corner lobby area on the S. Roman St. and Perdido St. side of the lobby.
  • The contractor installed sprinkler heads and escutcheons between the B & C Tower lobbies.

 

LIBRARY COMMONS:

  • The contractor began making final repairs to the frieze. 
  • Crews continued framing and installing sheetrock for the stairwell wall.

 

MEB AIR HANDLING UNIT REPLACEMENT:

  • Facility Services continued staging temporary air conditioning units to support the temporary air conditioning for 6th and 7th Floor Quadrant D.

 

MEB 2ND FLOOR LOBBY RENOVATION:

  • The contractor installed wall panels on east wall between Medical Center Stores and the door to the custodial area.

 

MEB PHARMACOLOGY LAB RENOVATIONS:

  • The contractor continued working on general cleaning in the lab area as the project nears completion.

 

ALLIED HEALTH/NURSING BLDG. RE-ROOFING PROJECT:

  • The contractor completed installing base sheet along all the parapet walls. 
  • The contractor continued installing a pitch pan for the exhaust fan on the Bolivar Street side of the roof.

     

DENTAL SCHOOL AUDITORIUMS A & B RENOVATIONS:

  • The contractor installed handrails at the stairwell entrance of both auditoriums. 
  • They finished installing additional framing in Auditorium A along the wing walls and the north wall. 
    • Panels were installed on the north wall while the wing wall remains to be completed. 
  • The electrical contractor installed conduit for the lectern in Auditorium A.
