In the wake of the devastation created by Hurricane Katrina, over half of the facilities in LSU's public hospital system were left crippled. These hospitals are integral to providing care for thousands of Louisiana citizens and Big Charity in New Orleans had been in operation since 1736. Our hospitals were hit hard by the hurricane and medical staff had the charge of caring for patients under the most horrific conditions. Thousands of our staff and their families are now homeless. What they need most now is money, so that they can begin to put their lives back together. We've created the Charity Hospitals Relief fund at LSU to help these true heroes, who fought through the most catastrophic storm in American history.
