Facing Disparities: Improving Access and Measuring Outcomes |

Goal: Develop the clinical director’s fund of managerial and leadership knowledge and skills, enabling enlightened and independent management, as well as authentic leadership, supporting the values and purpose of HCSD.
Audience: Medical directors, nursing directors. Also Medical staff officers, hospital and system clinical leaders, quality and utilization managers, HCET members.
Target areas, core competencies, and skills : Current state of national and international health care environment; foundations and precepts of evidence-based medicine; use of data and information in achieving value in the clinical enterprise; use of performance and process improvement to secure and maintain competitive advantage; content knowledge of legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards in the clinical practice environment, including CMS, JCAHO, EMTALA, HIPAA, as well as compliance, risk, and research management; finance and budgeting, including institution specific and systems issues; and influence and improvement on organizational and hospital cultures.
** Follows the HCET Education Spiral. Quarterly meetings have keynote speakers in the morning session, and disease specific breakout sessions in the afternoons. A required meeting of the attendees of Clinician Leadership Academy will take place at lunch. Here, discussion topics will include specific competency areas, such as contracting, accreditation, credentialing, regulations, committee functions, etc.
*** The Clinician Leadership Development Academy will include physician and nursing leaders’ team projects, and learning portfolios/leadership journals. Learning environment will consist of one day on-campus sessions, with project due by next on-campus module. Program coordinators are Gene Beyt and Debbie Hernandez with the HCE Team.
