Cenla Medication Access Program

A note from Pharmacy

We all know someone or have heard about people in our communities who are struggling to make ends meet, and can’t afford to pay for the medicines they need to keep them as healthy and independent as possible. Millions of people across our country are facing the same situation. The Rapides Foundation along with Huey P. Long Medical Center Health Sciences Division has stepped up to meet the need in Cenla through the Cenla Medication Access Program (CMAP) project.

CMAP is a program to provide chronic prescription medications for people who cannot afford them. The outpatient pharmacy is located in the lobby area of the Hospital’s England Airpark Clinic. The program officially began filling prescriptions on May 1, 2001. This outpatient pharmacy provides medication assistance and education for patients of Huey P. Long. Danny Jackson, Director of Pharmacy at HPL Medical Center and Airpark Director, John Robichaux see the human side of this problem everyday. So far CMAP has already provided over 11,000 prescription medications for patients of HPLMC’s Clinics plus have received over 2,000 prescriptions from manufacturers’ free programs.

The goal of this program is to ensure appropriate medication access and education for Clinic patients, enabling them to have access to needed chronic care medications that are prescribed by their HPL physician. CMAP also promotes preventative health practices.

Patients who need assistance with prescription medications and meet all the eligibility requirements must be enrolled by Social Services at England Airpark. If you would like more information you may contact them at 318-483-7156.

Eligibility Requirements:

You must be seen at HPL Medicine clinic or one of the select specialty care clinics.

You must not have other insurance for prescriptions. Patients eligible for or receiving Medicaid or other government sponsored outpatient pharmacy programs are not eligible for the services of CMAP.

You must have a documented income at or below 200% of the federal poverty level.

You must require medication on the formulary list.

There is a $3.00 co-pay for each prescription with a maximum of $36..00 per visit.
