Natural Medicines is the new name of the Natural Standard database. Natural Medicines is an authoritative resource on dietary supplements, natural medicines, and complementary alternative and integrative therapies. Access is available on and off campus.

Natural Standard – now also in French

From NS Headquarters:

Natural Standard, the evidence-based database about complementary and alternative therapies, is pleased to announce that 100 Foods, Herbs & Supplements monographs are now available in French. All Foods, Herbs & Supplement topics will be available in this additional language in the coming months.

As with the Natural Standard Spanish language monographs, the French monographs are written at the Bottom Line reading level, providing an abbreviated review designed for use by patients or professionals. Each monograph is adapted from a Natural Standard comprehensive systematic review, and includes evidence-based information on effectiveness, side effects, interactions, dosing, pregnancy and breastfeeding.

The French language monographs may be accessed by selecting “French” from the language drop-down menu within a Bottom Line Monograph. Users may also search for available French topics using the Advanced Search feature. Currently available monographs include popular topics such as chamomile, gingko, ginger, green tea and melatonin.

New Adverse Effects Checker

Natural Standard, a source for?á high-quality, evidence-based information about complementary and alternative medicine, announced today the release of their new Adverse Effects Checker.

Simply check off the symptoms and the Adverse Effects Checker will provide a list of dietary supplements that may be causing those symptoms.

2 minute tips: Natural Standard Recipes

Natural Standard, our?áevidence-based information provider for integrative medicine,?árecently added a Healthy Recipes database. ?áThis new database features a wide range of healthy recipes.?áEach recipe provides details on preparation time, difficulty, diet and nutrition, as well as direct links to Natural Standard evidence-based systematic reviews for studied ingredients. Natural Standard’s new look

Natural Standard, an online database with evidence-based information about complementary and alternative therapies, has redesigned their website.

Natural Standard offers a variety of tools, including graded analysis reflecting the level of available scientific data for or against the use of therapies for a specific medical conditions, a symptom checker/differential diagnosis tool, medical calculators and patient handouts. “Bottom line” analyses offer succinct summaries on public health topics, genomics & proteomics, sports medicine and medical conditions.

A mobile version is available via Skyscape.com for most devices. It is free for LSUHSC students, faculty and staff. It offers consolidated information on effectiveness, side effects, interactions, dosing, pregnancy, breastfeeding, historic background, practitioner accreditation, theory, and safety on a variety of drugs and natural therapies.
