New Orleans, LA – Robert Barsley, DDS, JD, Director of the Dental Health Resources Program and Professor of Oral Medicine and Radiology at LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans School of Dentistry, has been elected Secretary of the American Association of Forensic Sciences and Treasurer of the Forensic Sciences Foundation. Dr. Barsley is a forensic dentist.

For sixty years, the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) has served a distinguished and diverse membership. Its nearly 6,000 members are divided into eleven sections spanning the forensic enterprise. Included among the Academy's members are physicians, attorneys, dentists, toxicologists, physical anthropologists, document examiners, psychiatrists, physicists, engineers, criminalists, educators, digital evidence experts, and others. Representing all 50 United States, Canada, and 52 other countries worldwide, they actively practice forensic science and, in many cases, teach and conduct research in the field as well. As a professional society dedicated to the application of science to the law, the AAFS is committed to the promotion of education and the elevation of accuracy, precision, and specificity in the forensic sciences.

The Forensic Sciences Foundation, Inc., founded in 1969, is a nonprofit organization studying the application of science to the resolution of social and legal issues. In 1973, the Foundation became affiliated with the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, a professional membership organization of forensic scientists. The Foundation is the educational, scientific, and research arm of the Academy.
