LSUHSC Physical Therapy Clinic Now Open to LSUHSC Faculty, Staff and Students
We are pleased to announce that the LSUHSC Physical Therapy Clinic located on the 7th Floor of the Nursing/Allied Health Building at 1900 Gravier Street is now open for faculty, staff, and students of the LSU Health Sciences Center.   Please note that these services are limited to employees and students of the LSU Health Sciences Center as we transition to full services for the public later this Spring.   Appointments can be scheduled by calling (504) 568-4288.

Attention All Former Occupants of LSUHSC Residence Hall(s) at the time of Hurricane Katrina: Notice to Vacate October 19, 2006
Due to the length of time since Hurricane Katrina, all personal belongings, effects, or movables of former occupants of any LSUHSC Residence Hall prior to the hurricane are deemed abandoned. As of the date of this announcement, all abandoning occupants shall be given five days notice to complete their retrieval of all personal effects or movables remaining in or about the Residence Halls. Any abandoned personal effects and movables remaining in or about the residence halls after this time will be disposed of accordingly. These actions are necessary as we continue to repopulate the residence hall(s). Please be advised that this notice does not affect any current occupants who continue to occupy their apartments.

News Release: LSUHSC Occupational Therapists Share Ideas for Home Rebuilding
The Department of Occupational Therapy at LSU Health Sciences Center at New Orleans’ School of Allied Health Professions is holding a day-long workshop providing information about how home modifications can be made during the rebuilding process to help people function better in their homes. The workshop called Home Modifications: Enabling Occupational Performance, will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. in Nursing Lecture Room 1, 1900 Gravier Street on LSUHSC’s campus.

The Office of the Registrar has closed its Baton Rouge office and will be reopening in another temporary location on June 12, 2006 in New Orleans. This location is on the 4th floor of the building in the corner closest to University Hospital and must be accessed through the Library. Visitors will need to take the elevator to the third floor of the building and use the Library's internal elevator (or stairs) to access the 4th floor. Our hours of operation for check in are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To accommodate students we will be open on Saturday and Sunday from Noon to 5:00 p.m. Please check in at the Student Housing office located at 1900 Perdido Street, Room 210.

Notice to Vacate FinnJet Ship
All residents living on board the FinnJet ship must vacate the premises no later than Sunday, June 4, 2006 at NOON. LSU's obligations to the ship require that the premises be left in the same condition in which you found them. Trash, etc. should be properly disposed of before you leave. It is imperative that you vacate the premises by the deadline. Any goods or belongings left on the premises after that deadline will be discarded. Any expenses related to cleaning up the room assigned to you will be charged to you.

Subject: Notice to Owners of Stored and Abandoned Vehicles
A number of vehicles have been parked in LSUHSC parking lots and garages for an extended period of time, including vehicles that bear emergency hangtags issued in relation to Katrina. Due to the extended, ongoing nature of such parking, these vehicles are considered stored on LSUHSC property without authorization. If such vehicles are not removed by their owners prior to March 30, 2006, they will be deemed abandoned and will be removed accordingly at the owner's expense. These actions are necessary as we proceed with the return of parking facilities to normal operations.

In light of the CSRB animal facility re-opening shortly, the LSUHSC-NO IACUC will hold a meeting on March 27, 2006 to review new IACUC protocol submissions. Subject: Temporary Exceptions to Promotion and Tenure Regulations

The LSU Board of Supervisors has approved temporary exceptions to Chapter 8, Section 2.7 of the Regulations of the Board of Supervisors and will provide those faculty who request it an additional year before the date of their mandatory review for promotion and tenure. The report of the LSU System Executive Staff on this matter is available here. A Request to Delay Mandatory Tenure Review form must be used by faculty members to request a delay in mandatory tenure review. After completing the form, faculty members should submit the original to their Dean's Office who will then be responsible for countersigning the request and sending copies to the faculty member, the vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and Human Resources Management. It is the faculty member's responsibility to ensure that they receive a countersigned copy for their own files.

News Release: LRA Approves Bridge Funding For LSU Health Sciences Center In N.O.
Dr. Larry Hollier, Chancellor of LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, announced today that the Board of Directors of the Louisiana Recovery Authority approved the recommendation of its Public Health and Healthcare Committee to provide $50 million in bridge funding to LSUHSC in New Orleans. The funding is from a federal social services block grant awarded to the state for hurricane relief.

News Release: Medical Graduates Express Confidence in LSUHSC Graduate Medical Education in Ophthalmology Early Match
Dr. Larry Hollier, Chancellor of LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, announced today that all eight positions in the 2006 Ophthalmology Residency Program Match at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans’ School of Medicine filled, half in the school’s top ten rank order list, seven of the eight in the school’s top twenty.

Additional Temporary Location of the LSUHSC-NO Office of Research Services
As a result of the return of many investigators to the New Orleans campus and surrounding area and due to the fact that many School of Medicine, business managers are now located in the New Orleans area, the Office of Research Services (ORS) has opened an additional temporary office in the Clinical Sciences Research Building on the LSUHSC main campus in New Orleans. News Release: LSU Board of Supervisors Approves Hollier as Permanent Chancellor
At their February 3, 2006 meeting, the LSU Board of Supervisors accepted LSU System President Dr. William Jenkins’ recommendation to name Dr. Larry H. Hollier permanent Chancellor of LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. He will also continue to serve as Dean of LSUHSC’s School of Medicine, a post he has held since January 1, 2004. The appointment is effective immediately.

News Release: Hollier Appoints Ochoa Interim Cancer Center Director
Dr. Larry Hollier, Acting Chancellor of LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, has appointed Dr. Augusto Ochoa, Director of Tumor Immunology, as interim Director of the Stanley S. Scott Cancer Center at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. Dr. Ochoa succeeds Dr. Oliver Sartor who accepted an appointment at Harvard Medical School and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, following the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Dr. Ochoa’s appointment was effective January 10, 2006.

Dr. Marilyn L. Zimny
December 12, 1927 - January 7, 2006

Dr. Marilyn L. Zimny, Professor Emeritus of Anatomy and retired Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Dean of the School of Graduate Studies at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, peacefully passed away due to complications of cancer at 7:00 a.m. on January 7, 2006. She was born on December 12, 1927 in Chicago.

News Release: LSUHSC School of Public Health Incorporates Katrina into Curriculum in return to New Orleans
Teaching the lessons of Katrina, LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans’ School of Public Health has come home, albeit to borrowed space. Classes will return to the city on January 9, 2006, beginning at 8:00 a.m. and scheduled throughout the day, at the Advanced Technology Center in the UNO Research and Technology Park on the lakefront even as the last pieces of technical support equipment are installed. Classes will be held there until the UNO Tech Building on Canal Street, where the school had been housed, is ready for re-occupancy sometime this spring. But some of the course work has already been back for several months.

News Release: LSU Health Sciences Center Earns Accreditation Reaffirmation
The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools reaffirmed LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans’ accreditation at its meeting on December 5, 2005. The university was awarded a 10–year reaffirmation of accreditation with no monitoring reports required. Accreditation is required for all federally sponsored education programs including student loans.

News Release: Hollier Seeks Assurance of Bridge Funding for LSUHSC Accreditation
In testimony before the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget today, Dr. Larry Hollier, Acting Chancellor of LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, and Dean of the LSUHSC School of Medicine, reported that after an initial budget shortfall of $150 million due to the consequences of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, a net deficit of nearly $90 million remains even after taking the most stringent measures to reduce it.

NEW Interdisciplinary Program within the School of Graduate Studies
The Interdisciplinary Program of the School of Graduate Studies matriculated its first class in July 2005. The program was established to provide students with an integrated curriculum and the opportunity to select a mentor from a wide range of disciplines. The program comprises seven Basic Science Departments ― Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; Cell Biology and Anatomy; Genetics; Microbiology, Immunology and Parasitology; Pathology; Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics; Physiology and the Neuroscience Program.
