Louisiana State University System
The Louisiana State University System evolved with the
establishment of the position of Chancellor for the Baton Rouge Campus on
February 6, 1965
The Louisiana State University System was officially recognized with the
passage of the implementing legislation R.S. 17:3202 and 3301) for the
1974 Louisiana Constitution.
The Louisiana State University System has the mission of creating an environment of
learning and exploration which will provide the people of Louisiana with the opportunities and
benefits of a full-scale university endowed with special responsibilities of a land grant institution
to effect improvement in the quality of life of the people in the state. This mission involves
development of the highest levels of intellectual and professional endeavor in programs of
instruction, research, and service. The System, therefore, serves the people as an instrument
for discovery as well as transmission of knowledge. Each campus has a unique but
complementary role in the overall mission of the System. This principle of geographic as well as
academic differentiation allows the campuses to extend basic as well as unique programs to
citizens throughout the state.
The University System serves a multiracial and multicultural population
and adheres to the principle of equal educational and employment
opportunity to qualified persons without regard to race, creed, religion,
color, national origin, handicap, marital status, veterans status, sex, or
age. |
