Pursuant to La. R.S. 46:1151, et sea., and the resolution of the
Board of Supervisors passed on August 20, 1993, the following
committee is hereby appointed to implement application
procedures and academic requirements for the scholarship program
established by the above referenced statutes and resolution:
Scholarships shall be awarded as stipulated in the above
referenced Board of Supervisors resolution and in the statutes
relating hereto. The committee shall develop application
procedures and specific academic requirements for the
scholarship program. For each $1,000 of scholarship money
received from the University, a recipient shall be obligated to
work for the LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport full-time
for a period of six months, up to a total not to exceed
thirty-six (36) months of full-time work as consideration for
the scholarship awarded.
All contracts between the Board of Supervisors and a student
pursuant to this Chancellor's Memorandum shall contain the
following provisions:
If Recipient fails to comply with any
provisions set forth herein, he shall remit to University that
amount which bears the same ratio to the aggregate of the amount
of the scholarship award as the number of months that Recipient
failed to comply with this Agreement bears to the number of
months he was obligated to comply. The amount shall be computed
together with interest at the legal rate, such interest to be
computed from the date on which Recipient graduated from the
program, and active military service, if any. Such repayment
shall be completed within six (6) years from the date at which
the amount owing by Recipient to University began to draw
interest.
Upon the permanent withdrawal or dismissal of Recipient from the
Allied Health program at the LSU Health Sciences Center in
Shreveport prior to graduation, Recipient shall forfeit
immediately the right of Recipient to retain the scholarship. In
that event, Recipient shall remit to University the full amount
of money received by Recipient hereunder to the date of
withdrawal or dismissal. The amount due and owing by Recipient
to University hereunder shall begin to bear interest at the
legal rate from the point of withdrawal or dismissal, and
repayment shall be made to University and completed within six
(6) years from date of the withdrawal or dismissal.
If Recipient fails to begin work for University at the
University Hospital in Shreveport within 30 days of the date of
his graduation from the program, he shall begin repayment within
one (1) year after completion of graduation of all amounts
received by him pursuant to this Agreement, together with
interest at the legal rate to be computed from the date of
graduation. Repayment shall be made to University and completed
within six (6) years from the date of the first payment pursuant
to this paragraph.
Upon default on payment of the scholarship amounts by Recipient
to University as herein provided, University may turn this
matter over to an attorney for prosecution to bring suit for the
amount due and owing, which suit may be brought in the parish of
the domicile of Recipient, in Caddo Parish, or in East Baton
Rouge Parish.
Acceptance of the scholarship by Recipient does not obligate
University to employ Recipient. If a position is not available,
or for any other reason University decides not to employ
Recipient, repayment of the scholarship is waived.
Other provisions may be included in any such contract if they
are not in conflict either with the Board resolution or the
applicable statutes.
No faculty members or administrators or their children or
spouses shall be eligible to receive these scholarships awarded
hereunder.
