Academic Surgical Pathologist (0644975001)

LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans is pleased to announce an opening for a faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology. The successful candidate’s primary responsibility will be to provide diagnostic expertise in surgical and cytopathology. Subspecialty expertise in genitourinary or breast pathology is especially desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in departmental education programs involving medical students, Pathology residents and fellows as well as other clinical departments in the School of Medicine as required. Applicants should have MD, DO or MD/PhD degree and be board certified (BC) in AP or AP/CP and be eligible for an unrestricted medical license in the state of Louisiana. The Application Analyst will function as a Software Analyst for the Electronic Health Record (EHR) project. These positions may be domiciled at locations throughout the state of Louisiana.  This is a master job description that will encompass the different specialty areas in which the Application Analyst positions will work. These areas include, but may not be limited to:

Postdoctoral Fellowship

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP ON ALCOHOL DEPENDENCE AND POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER. We are accepting applications for a National Research Service Award (NRSA) postdoctoral fellowship on the study of alcohol dependence and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This project aims to define the behavioral overlap of these two disorders in a rodent model, and identify the neural dysregulation that underlies the high co-morbidity of PTSD and alcoholism in humans. A Postdoctoral Fellow position in Molecular Neuroscience is available at the Neuroscience Center, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, LA. Our laboratory uses songbirds as a model system to study the molecular mechanisms underlying neural circuit development, sensitive period neural plasticity, and vocal learning, which are highly relevant to speech and language functions in humans. Current projects include studying roles of miRNAs in regulating gene expression during the structural and functional development in the zebra finch brain using an integrative approach including genomics, viral based gene manipulation, histology, and behavioral analysis.

Villere Endowed Chair and Prince Abdul Bin Ahmed Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud Endowed Chair

The Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in New Orleans is initiating a search for two endowed Chairs; candidates will be considered for appointment as Associate Professor or Professor on the tenure track. The intent of both of these Chairs is to support clinically relevant research in retinal disease broadly, and, in the case of the Villere Chair, in retinitis pigmentosa more specifically.

Candidates must be senior basic science or clinical researchers with a record of success in obtaining federal funding for their research programs in retinal disease and with a recognized reputation for their work as demonstrated by their publication record and service on journal editorial boards and by participation on NIH and/or other federal grant study sections. Candidates must have a terminal degree such as MD (or its equivalent), PhD or both. The incumbent will be appointed to the Department of Ophthalmology and the Villere Chair will also be a member of the Neuroscience Center of Excellence.

The ideal candidates will have demonstrated ability in developing translational research from basic scientific observations to clinical trials to translational research. Anticipated duties and responsibilities will include sustaining an exceptional research program, mentoring of graduate students/postdoctoral fellows, and participating in departmental and graduate and undergraduate teaching programs.
