MANDATORY COMPLIANCE TRAINING

All LSUHSC-NO's workforce (faculty, staff, residents and students) are required to complete each of the four training topics listed below:

Employees and Students:

Code of Conduct
HIPAA Privacy
HIPAA Security
Quarterly Safety Meetings (A different safety topic every three months)
Security and Confidentiality Statement (mandatory only for those employees and students who have an LSU logon ID)

Employees must also complete the topics listed below:

Driver Safety (mandatory only for those employees who drive on State business)

Frequency: Every five years for those with low risk of exposure. Annually for those at high risk.

Training standard: Human Subjects Research Training

Audience: Required for anyone who is involved in research involving human subjects

Frequency: Once

Note: The LSUHSC-NO Human Subject Protection Program (IRB) has initiated the use of a new online tutorial for training in Human Subjects Protection. The new program is called the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) and is now used by over 1000 institutions throughout the country. The new program involves the completion of a number of modules with quizzes related to the type of human subject research you conduct, i.e., Biomedical or Social/Behavioral/Epidemiological. If you are conducting Biomedical (FDA regulated) research, you must also complete a set of modules on Good Clinical Practice (GCP) related to drug or device development. Everyone involved in any capacity in human subjects research will be required to complete the appropriate CITI training. Beginning Feb 1, 2009 no new or re-approval IRB applications will be accepted unless CITI requirements have been completed by all study personnel.
