Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)

LSUHSC-NO’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) is responsible for reviewing, approving and providing oversight of all activities involving the care and use of live vertebrate animals. It is the policy of LSUHSC-NO that all projects involving live vertebrate animals or animal tissue must be presented to the IACUC for review, approval and oversight.

IACUC Policies and Procedures

IACUC Forms

General instructions are given in Using IACUC Forms. The deadline for receipt of applications in the IACUC Office is the last Monday of the month. IACUC meetings are held on the third Monday of every month. Amendments and transfers are processed as received.

Safety and Training Requirements

  • All research conducted at this institution must undergo an Institutional Bio-Safety Committee (IBC) Review.  IACUC approval will not be given until IBC exemption or approval is received

  • Prior to working with animals, participates must complete all required training of the Division of Animal Care and the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI)  Working with the IACUC” for Investigators, Staff and Students, Basic Course and any other courses assigned by the veterinarian. Every three years, everyone must complete the CITI course Working With Animals in Biomedical Research - Refresher Course.

  • Participants must complete an Animal Exposure Surveillance Assessment Form in the Division of Animal Care. While participation in the DAC occupational health and safety program may be voluntary in some cases, the assessment is mandatory.
