Message from the Chancellor

I am pleased to share the strategic vision of LSU Health Sciences center in New Orleans with you. As Louisiana?s flagship academic health center educating about 70% of our state?s health care professionals, we welcome the opportunity to inform you of the course we have set for the center over the coming years. Already established as Louisiana?s health leader through our educational, patient care, research and service programs and as one of Louisiana?s most powerful economic engines, LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans has charted a bold blueprint for advancement in this strategic plan.

With the support of our governing agencies in higher education and state government as well as our partners in industry and in communities throughout Louisiana, the goals we have set forth are attainable and will enable LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans to even better serve the people of our state. The plan includes a number of goals grouped by their respective components of our mission, as well as benchmarks for measuring our success in achieving them. It represents the work of many individuals throughout the university, and I am grateful for their dedication and effort.

Over the next five years, we can make great progress toward reducing the shortage of health care professionals in Louisiana, diversifying Louisiana?s economy and increasing the monies we attract into the state through our research enterprise, improving the health of Louisiainans through innovations in our health care services, disease management and health promotion programs, and enhancing our outreach capability by forging new alliances while strengthening our relationships with existing partners in communities across the state.

I look forward to working with you to make LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans an even greater resource for the people of Louisiana and to more competitively position our center in the national arena.
