Staff News

Kathryn E. Kerdolff, MLIS, AHIP, Reference Librarian, was elected Secretary of the South Central Chapter of the Medical Library Association (SCC/MLA). She also co-presented a paper entitled "Feasibility Study for Developing Effective Online Classes for Health Professionals at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans (LSUHSC-NO) and in the South Central Chapter: A Progress Report" at the SCC/MLA annual meeting in Dallas in October.

Molly Knapp, MA, Reference Librarian, has been been elected Secretary Treasurer of the Medical Informatics Section of MLA.

Jennifer K. Lloyd, MLIS, AHIP, Information Technology & ILL Librarian and Acting Head-Circulation, co-presented a paper entitled "Feasibility Study for Developing Effective Online Classes for Health Professionals at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans (LSUHSC-NO) and in the South Central Chapter: A Progress Report" at the SCC/MLA annual meeting of in Dallas in October. She also co-presented a poster entitled "SCAMeL Librarian Exchange Professional Development Program" at the same meeting with librarians from Arkansas and Texas.

S. Claire Mayeux joined the staff in November as an Isché Circulation Associate. Claire is a Louisiana native who recently moved back to the state after working in publishing in New York City. She is a 2007 graduate of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches.

Julie Schiavo, MLIS, AHIP, Dental Reference Librarian, presented a poster entitled "Searching Online for Consumer Health Information on a Controversial Topic" at the SCC/MLA annual meeting of in Dallas in October.

Elizabeth A. Strother, MLS, MBA, AHIP, Head of the Dental Library, has been named the 2009 Lucy B. Foote Award winner from the Louisiana Library Association. This award is presented by the Subject Specialists Section to an Association member in recognition of her contribution to special librarianship. Liz recently celebrated her 30th year of service to LSUHSC and has been a long time member of LLA and the Subject Specialists Section. She has made notable contributions to the Louisiana Library Association during her 36 years in New Orleans, serving as a member of twelve LLA Committees, including chair of the subject specialist section in 1983-1985, Second Vice-President of LLA in 1998-1999, and Co-Chair of the LLA Annual Conferences in 1991 and 1997. She has been a member of the LLA Bulletin editorial board and advertising manager of the same publication.
