Computer Facilities
The Isché Library's computer facilities are divided into five categories:
Printing in the Library is provided through Auxiliary Enterprise's Pay Paw System using Pharos Software.
Computer Classroom
The Library is also the location for a Computer Assisted Learning classroom which is available for instructors in all of the six schools of the Health Sciences Center. For more information visit the
Computer Aided Learning Lab page.
Computer Lab
The Library's computer lab is available to all LSUHSC faculty, staff, and students. Use is limited by key access and is available whenever the Library is open. All 22 computers run Windows XP and are equipped with Office XP. All have full Internet access as well as other programs. Fourteen of the PCs are Pentium III-933s with Zip 250 and CD-RWs drives. Another 8 PCs are Pentinum III-450s with Zip 100 drives.
Laptop Ports
There are over 40 laptop ports throughout the Library -- at tables, in carrels, and study rooms. Some ports require pink cables and others require blue cables; these cables are not interchangeable. The blue ports use a standard ethernet cable and are generally located near tables or in carrels. The pink ports use a specialized ethernet cable (available for check-out at the Circulation Desk) and are located in study rooms. Each port has a color-coded label; check the floor plans to be certain which one is required. On the third floor, there are 6 blue ports. On the fourth floor, there are over 20 blue ports and 7 pink. On the fifth floor, there are 4 blue ports. An ethernet card is required to use the Internet with a laptop; no modem access is available.
Public Access
The 17 Public Access Computers are available to all Library patrons for use with Library Systems, LSUHSC Email, and University applications. There are 9 PC's on the 3rd floor, 4 on the 4th, and 4 on the 5th.
Wireless Connections
The LSUHSC Wireless Network covers all public areas of the Library; this includes all study carrels, tables, and study rooms. In order to provide a safe computing environment, wireless users are required to logon to the network with their LSUHSC UserID and password. To use the wireless network a Cisco Wireless Ethernet adapter that supports light extensible authentication protocol (LEAP) or protected extensible authentication protocol (PEAP) is required. Directions for configuring your wireless to our system are available for Windows XP, Windows Vista, Intel PROset, Mac Tiger, or Mac Leopard.
