SoN Awarded Best School for Men

Congratulations to the LSUHSC School of Nursing for being named one of the best schools for men who wish to prepare themselves for a nursing career. This award is given by the American Assembly for Men in Nursing (http://aamn.org). LSUHSC SoN shares the 2010 honors with Duke University, the University of Pennsylvania and Samuel Merrit University. This award recognizes “a nursing school or college that has provided significant efforts in recruiting and retaining men in nursing, in providing men a supportive educational environment, and in educating faculty, students and the community about the contributions men have and do make to the nursing profession.”

National Nurses Week is celebrated every year beginning on 6 May, National Nurses Day, and ending on 12 May, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the foundress of modern nursing. Included in this week of celebration is National Student Nurses Day on 8 May.

The theme for the 2009 celebration is Nurses: Building a Healthy America

“This year’s theme reflects the commitment nurses make every day in building a healthy America for the public we serve,” said ANA President Rebecca M. Patton, MSN, RN, CNOR. “ANA has long advocated for meaningful health system reform and in 2008 re-released ANA’s Health System Reform Agenda, an ANA blueprint for reform that focuses on the basic “core” of essential health care services, which is essential in building a healthy America for everyone.”
