The 1st through 3rd floors of the S. Roman Street Parking Garage will be closed between 6pm on Friday May 24th until 6pm on Sunday May 26th. The closure is due to much needed painting of the handrails and walls. Two alternate stairwells in the parking garage will remain open, as well as the elevator.
Got Drugs? That’s the question the National Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative is asking. The program promotes an opportunity to properly dispose of expired and unneeded prescription drugs. In recent years, over 2 million pounds of prescription drugs were taken out of circulation and disposed of properly. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, there has been no evidence of human health effects from prescription drug remnants on the environment thus far, however precautionary measures are still in affect to prevent cases from developing. So while you embark on this year’s spring cleaning, keep prescription drugs in mind.

The last official day to buy Starbucks coffee and other goodies from the kiosk in the Resource Center building is today March 28th. The coffee kiosk in the atrium will remain open during their normal hours. There will be a few small changes in the cafeteria until an agreement in the food service department is reached.
These same changes will take place at the Dental location.
There will be yet another temporary change in traffic on block of Roman Street between Tulane and Gravier starting Wednesday, March 20th. Below find the text from an email from facilities services.

The construction of the underground utility piping along South Roman Street continues. The contractor is nearing completion of pipe installation under the sidewalk this week and will commence trenching across South Roman Street at the intersection with Tulane Avenue at 6:00 AM on Wednesday morning, March 20, 2013. Consequently, South Roman Street will switch to two-way local traffic accessible only from the Gravier Street end. The parking garage entrance lanes and exit lanes will remain open. The intersection of Tulane Avenue and South Roman will be closed to traffic, therefore users should enter from the Gravier Street end and will exit that same direction when leaving. The Ische library has added its first self-service scanner. It is located on the 4th floor next to the print station. It is exclusively available for LSUHSC faculty, students and staff. It will allow users to view documents in an eco-friendly way as well as allow each user to customize their scans for better quality.
Saving scanned documents is easy as 1, 2 or 3.
- Save to a USB flash drive
- E-mail document to yourself
- Save to “O” drive – (access it from anywhere on campus or through Citrix)
The bookdrop has temporarily been moved inside the Resource Center building on the 2nd floor between the bookstore and credit union. It will be moved back to its usual location after re-surfacing of the crosswalk is complete (on or about January 2nd).
Access to the Library Commons is possible with an LSUHSC ID during the campus closure; because of the crosswalk re-surfacing, enter the building via the 1st floor.
Any free time during the holidays? Well you might want to take advantage the Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course. You will learn CPR techniques to assist people of all ages and how to use an AED. Cost is $50 and it’ll only take approximately 4hours.

From Saturday May 26th through Tuesday May 29th at 6am, the main stairwell in the S. Roman Street Parking Garage will be closed for resurfacing. There are two alternate stairwells that can be used, as well as the elevator. As a reminder, have your id handy because the alternate stairwells have restricted access which requires you to scan your id to get to the stairwell.
Effective May 21st, the cost of printing for black and white copies will increase 2¢ per page.
Color printing will remain 25¢ per page, for the time being.
Single-Sided – from 8¢ to 10¢
Double-Sided – from 12¢ to 14¢
Color – 25¢ per page

The onset of the Spring 2012 semester is officially here and the library would like to extend a welcome to patrons both new & old. This might be a refresher for some but for any newcomers, below is some useful information that might assist in your academic career.
Here’s a tidbit about what the library has to offer:
- Reserve Section -Current assigned texts for in-house use only
- Pay Paw Machine – Accepts CASH ONLY (coins NOT accepted)
- Computer Lab -14 computers total, located on the 4th floor
- Popular Reading section (variety of current magazines)
- Daily dose of the Times Picayune Newspaper – 3rd floor
- Study Rooms – 6 total, first come first serve
- Old School Technology – Microfiche machine, Video cassette player, VHS player, etc.
- Printers – both b/w & color prints available
- Copiers – a copy machine is located nearest the elevator on each floor of the library
In addition to books and journals, you can also check out headphones, dry erase markers, ethernet cords and cables for the big screen televisions in the commons area.
