Full text of a bimonthly newsletter published by the patients of the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital, Carville, Louisiana, 1941-2001. The Carville Hospital was the nation's only leper colony in the continental United States. See also: Life at Carville: the National Leprosarium circa 1950 from the National Hansen's Disease Museum.
The STAR's mission: "Radiating the Light of Truth on Hansen's Disease." Stanley Stein, editor, was an early advocate of changing the name of leprosy to Hansen's disease.
