Special Words by LSUHSC

├óÔé¼┼ôThough the demands of medical school can be overwhelming at times, participating in Camp Tiger and seeing the children and parents filled with joy reminds us that we are in a position to change the lives of others with just one laugh, one smile, and one hug at a time.”

ANNETTE ZACHARIA

Director, Camp Tiger 2010, L1 LSU School of Medicine Class of 2013

├óÔé¼┼ôCamp Tiger was easily the best thing I was involved with in medical school.├é┬á As the director, I learned how to manage a large group of medical students ├óÔé¼ÔÇ£ all with diverse personalities and abilities ├óÔé¼ÔÇ£ and was able to watch them use their talents in non-academic, but equally important, ways.├é┬á Being able to see my classmates care for often severely handicapped children was eye-opening and made me appreciate them in a whole new way, as well as begin to feel confident that they would one day be colleagues I could depend on and trust.├é┬á The diverse group of children presented both personal and medical challenges for all of us, and it was a way of learning very early that every patient is unique and has much to teach us about health care and life.├é┬á Camp Tiger was a true joy for me, and I don├óÔé¼Ôäót know that I have done much since then that has been more enjoyable or better affirmed my career choice.├óÔé¼┬Ø -

├óÔé¼┼ôCamp Tiger 2001 was├é┬áTHE├é┬ábest experience├é┬áI├é┬áwas a part of├é┬áduring my time at LSU Med School.├é┬á As the camp director, I was challenged every day to lead my peers, make decisions, and plan an event that is so important to our New Orleans community.├é┬á Watching my classmates come together and care├é┬áfor their campers was absolutely amazing!!├é┬á I will always have a special place in my heart for this wonderful project and can only say thanks for letting me have such a special role in the history of Camp Tiger!!├óÔé¼┬Ø-

“Camp Tiger 2007 and its preparation has been one of my favorite times during medical school.├é┬á It was truly inspiring to see├é┬ámy entire class collaborate on a project that benefits the entire New Orleans community.├é┬á Who Dat Camp Tiger roared back to New Orleans following a year away after Hurricane Katrina.├é┬á My class was excited for the challenge of redesigning camp in New Orleans.├é┬á The community was excited to rally around a positive, uplifting cause.├é┬á The campers’ parents were happy to├é┬ásee their children├é┬áhave a memorable week.├é┬á Most importantly, the special needs├é┬áchildren in New Orleans had the opportunity to again experience summer camp as just one of the kids.├é┬á What an amazing├é┬áexperience for everyone!” -

“Serving as Camp Tiger director was a tremendous privilege. The campers provided extraordinary lessons in courage, inspiration, perseverance, and positive attitudes, and watching the fun and friendship that these amazing kids experienced was truly unforgettable. Camp Tiger was an incredibly rewarding opportunity and it will always be a meaningful experience in my life.” -

├óÔé¼┼ôMy family has been very supportive of Camp Tiger for many years.├é┬á This is because my little sister had an incredible experience as a Camp Tiger participant.├é┬á She had a great time meeting new friends, participating in camp activities, and spending time with her Camp Tiger counselors.├é┬á Now, my brother and I , as Camp Tiger counselors and coordinators, have the opportunity to give other kids with special health care needs a similar experience.├é┬á We are proud to lend our time and efforts for this year├óÔé¼Ôäós camp.├óÔé¼┬Ø-
