Ochsner/LSU Health Shreveport seeks a Chair, Department of Anesthesiology in Shreveport, Louisiana, a department recognized as one of the finest anesthesiology programs in the country. The new chair will resume leadership to the department with the development and implementation of a dynamic vision for its future while working with the Dean and other Department Chairs in the ongoing evolution and success of the school. The Chair will build on an excellent foundation of 24 full-time faculty and staff, working collaboratively with a broad range of constituents, both internally and externally. The Chair, Department of Anesthesiology manages and oversees 32 Residents and 2 Fellows. The Department of Anesthesiology continues to expand our faculty as we assume increasing responsibility in healthcare outreach with efforts to be progressively available to both underserved as well as those with more ready access to healthcare.

An innovative and dynamic member of the LSU Health Shreveport leadership team, the Chair reports directly to the Dean of the LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport, David F. Lewis, MD, MBA. The selected candidate will also interact with the leadership of the Ochsner Health System which manages our primary teaching hospitals in Shreveport and Monroe in partnership with LSU. The Chair exemplifies exceptional leadership, continues the pursuit of clinical and academic excellence, and fosters interdisciplinary management of the department’s faculty, including both fellowship-trained and highly experienced anesthesiologists in nine areas of specialty including: 

  • Airway
  • Acute Pain
  • Cardiothoracic
  • Neuro
  • Obstetric
  • Pediatric
  • Vascular Anesthesia
  • Chronic Pain
  • Intensive Care

The successful candidate must have proven experience as a leader who can inspire faculty and staff to work together to develop future leaders in the specialty. The candidate will have strong management skills with an ability to grow revenues, meet budgets and demonstrate exceptional communication skills. Endorsing our commitment to excellence in clinical practice, education, and research, the department chair will oversee, coordinate, and encourage research within the department. 

Required: Applicant must meet one of the following:

  • Candidates must have an MD or DO from an accredited medical school
  • Board Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology
  • A distinguished record in Anesthesiology
  • Outstanding surgical skills and commensurate clinical activities.
  • Candidates must have a firm commitment to the education and teaching of residents and medical students
  • Qualify for the rank of Professor of Anesthesiology
  • Eligibility for a Louisiana Medical License is required

The LSUHSC-S Department of Anesthesiology, located in the Northwest corner of Louisiana in a tri-state area known as the Ark-La-Tex, serves as a tertiary and quaternary referral center and offers an Anesthesiology Residency Program, Clinical Pain Fellowship, and Neuro Anesthesiology Fellowship Program.
