Changing proxy settings in Zotero

April 16, 2024: If you use Zotero’s browser extension that aids in accessing Library resources, please note that you will need to change the proxy settings to work with the Library’s new service.

When changing the Zotero settings or preferences, look for the Proxies area, where you will need to change anything that has ezproxy.lsuhsc.edu to lsuhscno.idm.oclc.org:

If you need assistance with this or any other Library resources, please contact us.

Imminent deactivation of old EZproxy service and links

April 15, 2024: Our old EZproxy server will be shut down in the next few days, and any links that point to it will no longer work. Here are some tips on making sure you will be able to access Library resources:

How can I tell if I have an old link? If you have a bookmarked link or come across a page on a website with a link that starts with https://ezproxy.lsuhsc.edu…, it will no longer work when the old service is deactivated.

What should the new links look like? The new links will need to start with https://lsuhscno.idm.oclc.org/login?url= in order to work correctly going forward.

What do I need to do? Contact us! We can help you change your links. You can also fill out this form to let us know and get assistance changing your links.

April Faculty Publications

A new selection of articles has been added to the Faculty Publications display in the Isché Library. These eight articles, as well as all the articles in LSU Health Digital Scholar, are authored by at least one member of our research community here at LSUHSC-New Orleans. Each month the Library is proud to present copies of eight of these publications in a rotating display of 16. Check out the display below:

LSUHSC Digital Scholar is an institutional repository and is a service of the LSU Health Science Center Libraries. Research and scholarly output included here has been selected and deposited by the Libraries, as well as individual university departments and centers on campus.

Publications cited in LSU Health Digital Scholar are harvested from a variety of sources, such as PubMed, SCOPUS, and CINAHL, to name a few. In addition to articles, they include books, book chapters, papers, editorials, letters to the editor, and meeting abstracts, all authored by at least one member of the LSUHSC-NO community. You can access LSU Health Digital Scholar at https://digitalscholar.lsuhsc.edu/.

If you have an article that you would like us to highlight or if you have any questions regarding the display or the database, you can contact our Librarians at reference@lsuhsc.edu

WiFi offline after 7pm 4/11/2024

*Update* the network went down at 8:47pm and came back up at 9:46pm.

The WiFi network on the Downtown, City Park and Baton Rouge campuses will be down for approximately one hour this evening after 7pm on Thursday, April 11, 2024 for routine maintenance.

Library’s link to PubMed and emailing citations

April 4, 2024: If you follow the Library’s link to PubMed and then want to e-mail citations, you will see an error message that will not allow you to proceed:

Screenshot of PubMed e-mail error

This is caused by the reCAPTCHA that is required to send emails from PubMed not working nicely with our EZproxy system. Since we now require logins on and off campus when following Library links, this will affect more people.

If you want to email citations from PubMed, follow this link: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?otool=lsunolib.

This is also a good opportunity to check and see if you have the LibKey Nomad browser extension installed. When you have this add on, searching PubMed and getting to articles is super easy! If you use Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox, Brave, or Vivaldi browsers, you can install the LibKey Nomad extension and find articles effortlessly. It can also be installed in Chrome in your Citrix desktop. Check out our LibKey Nomad LibGuide for more information.

If you need help with this or any other Library resources, please contact us.

Changes to on campus access to Library resources

March 27, 2024: We’ve recently made a change to what you will need to do when accessing Library resources on campus. If you click a link to a resource in our online catalog, INNOPAC, the E-Books & E-Journals A to Z List, go to one of our Databases, or any LibKey link via our link resolver, you will be asked to log in even if you are on campus.

If you are using a Mac workstation, or click a link to a Library resource on a Windows machine in Firefox, you will see this box asking for your username and password:

Screenshot of login screen

Enter your username (the part before the @lsuhsc.edu in your email address) and your current password.

You should not need to login again during the same session as long as you do not clear the history of your browser.

For those on Windows workstations who were used to not logging in to access Library resources, if you click one of our links from Chrome you will not see the above login screen as the credentials you entered to use your workstation will automatically get you into Library resources.

You will also notice a change to the URLs for Library resources. Since we’re now requiring all users to log in regardless of whether they are on or off campus, you can see the addition of our new EZproxy service in the address bar of your browser:

https://www-sciencedirect-com.lsuhscno.idm.oclc.org/journal/biomaterials/issues

When you see the hyphens and the “lsuhscno.idm.oclc.org” that means you’re going through our EZproxy server. One thing to be careful of, though, is that you cannot copy that link and send it to someone else.

If you have any questions or need any assistance with this or any Library resources, please contact us.

Library links are changing! Are you prepared?

Image of clock and laptop

March 14, 2024: We’re moving to a new system that handles logging in to use Library resources. If you’ve bookmarked any links to a book, journal, or database from the Library, those will need to change.

How can I tell if I have an old link? If your bookmarked link starts with https://ezproxy.lsuhsc.edu…, that will no longer work in a couple of weeks.

What do I need to do? Contact us! We can help you change your links. Or, you can use our Off Campus Link Generator to update them yourself. Just be sure to remove the https://ezproxy.lsuhsc.edu/login?url= from the beginning of your link.

What happens if I see this screen?

Screenshot of error page for proxy service

Don’t worry! Just let us know and we will have the problem fixed. This just happens when a site hasn’t been set up in our new EZproxy service.

Will anything else change? Yes, but for the better! Getting to resources will be more streamlined, and in most cases will be seamless. If you’ve not yet logged into any LSUHSC-NO resources such as Office 365 Mail or something similar, you will just see this page where you need to enter your full LSUHSC-NO email address and password:

I’m trying to log in, but I’m seeing this error. What should I do?

Contact the Help Desk or open a ticket in their Service Desk for assistance. There may be an issue with your account.

Two New LibGuides

March 12, 2024: The Libraries are excited to announce two new LibGuides! The two new LibGuides are Artificial Intelligence in the Health Sciences, and the other new LibGuide being Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).

Changes to accessing online resources

March 7, 2024: We are currently moving from one EZproxy service to a new one, and are starting to change links to all books, journals, databases, and resources. This service helps us to tell publishers you should be allowed access to all of the resources we receive.

As we continue this migration, when accessing Library resources that require signing in, links will be doing one of two things until we’ve completed editing all links.

In some cases, you will still hit the traditional EZproxy login page:

Screenshot of login screen

In other cases, you will be sent to our new EZproxy system where the login is more streamlined. If you’ve not yet authenticated in your session, when you click a link to one of the Library’s resources, you will see the LSUHSC-NO login where you need to enter your full email address and current password:

Screenshot of login screen

If you’ve already logged in during your session, such as to Office 365 Mail, LSUHSC-Secure, or your workstation, when you click a link to a resource in the new EZproxy system, the next thing you will see is the resource and there will not be an intermediate login screen.

With this new EZproxy system, we will no longer support logging in with just your username and password; full email address and current password is the only option. Also, access to Library resources is limited to current students, faculty, residents, and staff.

If you have problems logging into a resource when seeing the purple LSUHSC-NO screen, IT can assist with account issues.

We will update when we have completed this move to the new service, but if you have any questions about this or any other Library resources, please contact us.
