Notable Changes

2019 Benefits Annual Enrollment

The following notable changes will be implemented for the 2019 benefits plan year:

  • LSU First
    • Premiums will increase by 3%.
    • The Emergency Room co-pay will increase to $150 (waived if admitted)
    • Option 2 plan option will be eliminated.  Employees in this plan will be defaulted into the Option 1 plan unless an OGB plan is chosen instead.
  • Office of Group Benefits (OGB)
    • No health premium increases or plan changes for 2019!
    • NEW INFORMATION:  Office of Group Benefits (OGB) has finalized its contract renewal with Prudential.  Some age groups will see a decrease in premiums (2019 OGB Life Premiums).  OGB is also offering a true open enrollment.  Current employees will have guaranteed issue through November 15th which means no medical questions asked!!  This information pertains only to the life insurance offered through OGB (i.e., NOT relevant to the LSU life product). 
    • Employees with court-ordered guardianship/custody of children can maintain those children on their policy until age 18 (not age 26).
    • For employees enrolled in the HSA775 plan for 2019:
      • HSA limit for individuals increasing by $50 to $3,500.
      • HSA limit for families increasing by $100 to $7,000.
  • LSU Voluntary Benefits
    • Dental premiums will increase by 5%.
    • Long Term Care premiums expected to increase by 20%.
    • Critical Illness coverage will be guaranteed issue during Annual Enrollment this year.
    • Current United Healthcare Life enrollees may increase their coverage by $10,000, up to 5X base salary or $500,000, without Evidence of Insurability (EOI). Current enrollees may increase spouse coverage by $5,000, up to $100,000, without EOI. Current enrollees may increase children coverage by increments of $5,000, to a maximum of $20,000, without EOI.
    • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) annual limit projected to increase to $2,700.  Final determination expected on or around October 18th.
    • FSA administration fee will increase by 30 cents per month (from $4.70/month to $5.00/month)
