Chancellor's Notes

In an effort to help you find housing in New Orleans, there is now a Commercial Housing Options page on our website. The page at http://www.lsuhsc.edu/no/administration/housing/  contains information about apartments for rent, homes, shared housing, and student housing.

Work is progressing on our residence halls. We anticipate that Stanislaus Hall will be ready for occupancy next week and the Residence Hall is targeted for occupancy by the end of the month or early next month.

The Stanley S. Scott Cancer Center held its first annual scientific retreat this week. Colleagues had the chance to learn about their peers work during the two-day event which featured presentations about research and community outreach. The goal was to promote collaboration and identify new research opportunities.

Dr. David Kline, Boyd Professor and Chairman of Neurosurgery, has been awarded the highest honor granted by the American Association of Neurological Surgeonsthe 2006 Cushing Medal. Given every year since 1977, the award recognizes an AANS member for distinguished service in the field. Dr. Kline was honored for his many years of outstanding leadership, dedication and contributions to neurosurgery.

Dr. David Martin, Professor and Chief of Infectious Diseases, was given the 2006 Achievement Award by the American Sexually Transmitted Diseases Association. The award is given annually for a single major achievement in the field of STD research and prevention. Dr. Martin was recognized for his efforts to maintain the momentum of the Gulf South STI Research Program at LSUHSC despite the ravages and losses following Katrina. 

And finally, we hope the signs werent prophetic for our nursing students at the CitiPlace theater this week. Imagine walking under the Mission Impossible III banner on your way into a final exam!
