Bids on the contract to waterproof the exteriors of the Dental Clinic Building, the Administration Building and the Power Plant were opened on January 13th.  The apparently low bidder was United Restoration & Preservation.  They have confirmed their bid price with the architects and the process of awarding the contract is getting underway.  Once the contract has been awarded and the Notice to Proceed has been issued, the contractor will have 180 days to complete the work.

The steel beams for the generator platform were hung in the existing switchgear room on the 1st Floor of the Allied Health/Nursing Building.  The contractor installed metal grating for the new generator room and set the generator in place.  Studs and door frames were installed for the birthing labs on the 2nd Floor and workers constructed the ceiling fur-downs in the auditorium.  Sheetrock was installed on the exterior of the auditorium along Perdido Street.  Crews began installing ceiling grid supports in the 1st Floor offices along the Bolivar Street side of the building. The contractor chipped out the concrete floor to allow for laying the AV conduit in Room 138. They installed AV and electrical conduit in the ceiling, the wall and along the floor for the Tiger Room and Room 138 and the floors in Room 138 and the Tiger room were patched.  The contractor ran cable tray in the 1st Floor ceiling along the MEB loading dock.; The contractor continued to correct flaws in the stucco on the 1st Floor and run conduit for fixtures and receptacles on the 1st and 2nd Floors.

The contractor working at the Residence Hall installed exterior lighting fixtures on the 2nd level of the new elevated mechanical/electrical structure and caulked all of the flashing on the roof level of the new building.  Temporary emergency power was run to the domestic water pump in preparation for the upcoming electrical shutdown.  Six feeder cables were pulled from the transformer vault to the new switchgear and terminated at the switchgear.

The vibration isolator was installed on the Resource Center’s emergency generator.  Crews pulled wiring for the light fixtures and receptacles on the generator platform and welded the walkway grating on the platform.  The temporary generator has been connected to the new emergency electrical panel.  Granite was installed on the exterior wall of the switchgear room and the gypsum board ceiling was installed in front of the passenger elevators on the 1st Floor.  Workers began finishing the ceiling in the 1st Floor elevator lobby and are now painting the 1st Floor mail room.  The contractor has begun addressing items on the stucco punch list.

At the Clinical Education Building, the contractor continued installing electrical conduits in the basement to relocate existing electrical panels to the 1st Floor, for the basement sump pumps and for the elevator pit.  A portion of the transformer vault roof was removed.  Crews removed brick pavers between the generator and the new walkway, from along the L&M lot, from in front of the loading dock area and from along side of the generator.  Parts were removed from the pit of passenger elevator #7 and the contractor removed exterior sprinkler pipe in the loading dock.

The CSRB exhaust project continues.  The contractor installed the rectangular exhaust duct that crosses the main supply duct on the 1st Floor and the de-ionized water piping on the 1st Floor was relocated.  They installed the rectangle exhaust duct through the 2nd Floor from the 1st Floor mechanical room and duct work was installed in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Floor mechanical rooms.  The 1st Floor duct work was pressure tested.  The exhaust ductwork was lifted into place on the 1st Floor and all of the branch lines have been connected.  The contractor relocated conduit in the 2nd, 3rd,  4th, 5th and 6th Floor mechanical rooms and installed electrical conduit on the 7th Floor near the freight elevator. Conduit and sprinkler heads were relocated in the 7th Floor mechanical rooms and a drain line was moved on the 1st Floor.

The CEB covered walkway contractor finished the surface of the concrete that was poured for the two staircases that lead off of the walkway to the ground level.  The tapered supports for the two canopies that will cover the entrances to the Clinical Education Building and to the District Entergy Garage were installed by the riggers.  The contractor continues welding the tapered supports in place.

Work on the replacement of the Dental School air handling units is progressing.  The contractor installed the chilled water supply and return valves on the risers for the clinic area.  They also installed the heating hot water supply and return valves on the risers for the clinic area.  The 3 inch heating hot water riser for the penthouse is being fabricated. The demolition of units 8B (Oral Pathology) and 8D (Gross Anatomy lab) and the associated duct work has been completed.  Crews poured concrete for two AHU foundation pads (above the Gross Anatomy and Oral Pathology labs) and set the drain pans.  The manifold system for the AHUs above the Gross Anatomy and Oral Pathology labs were fabricated and the contractor delivered air handling units 3A and 6A.

The contractor responsible for the project to replace old lighting fixtures at the Dental School with new energy efficient units replaced 300 light fixtures in the 2nd and 4th Floor clinic areas of the Clinic Building and in the 7th Floor pre-clinical laboratories.  236 light fixtures have been replaced on the 8th Floor of the Clinic Building.  The contractor has also removed 40 light fixtures from Rooms 6401 A-C on the 6th Floor of the Clinic Building.

A small project to replace an IT closet on the 2nd Floor of the Allied Health/Nursing Building is underway.  The contractor removed the two doors and door frames leading into the existing 2nd Floor lecture halls and they removed the ceiling and the floor tile in the triangle room.  The old doorways in Auditoriums A and B were taped and floated. The plywood backer board for the new IT rack was mounted and the walls of the closet were painted.
