On October 5th, bids for the construction of the new Human Development Center were opened by the Office of Facility Planning and Control. The low bidder has confirmed their pricing and the project award process is underway. This new 4 story, 126,000 sq. ft. structure will provide a long awaited, permanent home for the critical programs operated by the School of Allied Health Professions that serve the developmentally-disabled population of the State. The contract will include a 730 calendar day schedule for completing the new building.

Bids for the project to make permanent repairs to the 1st Floor of the Dental School’s Administration Building were opened on October 13th by the Office of Facility Planning and Control. The low bidder has confirmed their pricing and the award notice and associated contract documents have been sent to the contractor. The bid documents contemplate a construction schedule of 150 calendar days from the date of the Notice to Proceed.

The contractor completing the permanent repairs and mitigation at the Clinical Education Building continued the construction of the CMU wall for the transformer vault. They continued roughing in the exterior light fixtures and plumbing risers for the new building. Workers continued installing the elevator sump pump discharge lines under the 2nd Floor of the MEP building and to weld the steel structure for the roof level of the structure. The contractor installed the metal decking which will support the concrete flooring on the 2nd and 3rd Floors of the new MEP building and started installing the metal decking for the roof of the MEP building. Crews are roughing in the power for the trash compactor and began installing the elevator sump pump discharge lines under the 2nd Floor of the MEP building. The contractor continued installing 6” heating hot water supply and return piping. Workers are installing conduits on the 2nd Floor corridor leading to the new MEP building.

The upgrade to the CSRB exhaust system is progressing. The contractor finished removing the ceilings in the 2nd Floor corridor and removed the insulation from the ductwork in the corridor. Workers continued installing shaft walls around the exhaust riser for fan system #3 on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Floors. The wiring to fan systems 1, 2 and 4 is being installed and their crews began installing conduit for the control system wiring for fan systems #4, #9 and #10. The contractor began installing communication wiring for exhaust system #9. A cross connection was installed in exhaust riser #1 on the 5th Floor. A wall in Room 722 was repaired and fan 3C was attached to the support framing.

The contractor replacing the AHUs at the Dental School continued installing the heating hot water lines for unit 5B in the Clinic Building. The chilled water lines and supply ductwork for unit 5B were installed and the heating hot water and chilled water lines for unit 5B are being insulated. Workers painted and pressure tested the chilled water lines for the unit. The installation of the supply ductwork for units 6B and 7A continued. The contractor demolished unit 6A and the concrete pad for the new unit was poured. The installation of the supply ductwork and VAVs for unit 6B continues. The new ductwork for unit 7A was pressure tested and the VFD for the unit was installed. The heating water lines and transition supply ductwork for unit 7A are being installed. Control wiring is being run on the 2nd and 5th Floors of the Clinic Building.

All of the old ductwork in the 2nd half of the Library has been removed, the new ductwork is being installed and insulated and the installation of the new VAVs in the Library is underway. The heating water lines in the Library were capped and the new heating hot water lines are being installed. The contactor continued running heating and chill water for the 4th Floor units in the Administration Building. Supply and return ductwork is being installed for units L4C and L4D in the Administration Building. The CMU block wall of the mechanical room on the 4th Floor of the Administration Building was replaced.

The abatement project that will prepare the Dental Administration Building 1st Floor for the permanent repairs to the food service area and the associated hazard mitigation has begun. Old ductwork and insulation is being removed from the 1st Floor.

Here are highlights of work that has been accomplished during the past two weeks.

CEB PERMANENT REPAIRS & MITIGATION:

  • The contractor continued the construction of the CMU wall for the transformer vault.

  • The contractor finished removing the ceilings in the 2nd Floor corridor.
  • They removed the insulation from the ductwork in the 2nd Floor corridor.
  • Workers continued installing shaft walls around the exhaust riser for fan system #3 on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Floors.
  • The wiring to fan systems 1, 2 and 4 is being installed.
  • Crews began installing conduit for the control system wiring for fan systems #4, #9 and #10.
  • The contractor began installing communication wiring for exhaust system #9.

  • The contractor continued installing the heating hot water lines for unit 5B in the Clinic Building.
  • The chilled water lines and supply ductwork for unit 5B were installed. 
  • The heating hot water and chilled water lines for unit 5B are being insulated.   
  • Workers painted and pressure tested the chilled water lines for unit 5B.
  • The installation of the supply ductwork for units 6B and 7A continued.
  • The contractor demolished unit 6A and the concrete pad for the new unit was poured.  
  • The installation of the supply ductwork and VAVs for unit 6B continues.
