NOTICE: The Medical Education Building Air Handling Unit Replacement project continues.  The next two air handling units to be replaced serve the Bolivar Street/Perdido Street corner of the 4th and 5th floors.  Installation of these units will start at 6:00 PM on Friday, September 11th, and be completed by September 25th.  In order to remove the old units and install the new units, the contractor will erect a crane on Bolivar Street at the intersection with the MEB loading dock.  Subsequently, Bolivar Street will be closed from the intersection with Perdido Street to the MEB loading dock from 9:00 AM on Friday, September 11th, until 9:00 PM on Sunday, September 13th.  The sidewalk along Bolivar Street adjacent to the MEB will also be closed to pedestrian traffic.  This is required to protect pedestrians from any falling objects while work is being performed overhead.    

 

Temporary air conditioning for the 4th and 5th floor quadrant C (Bolivar Street/MEB loading dock corner) will be installed this week.  As part of the temporary air conditioning set-up, Facility Services will be connecting duct work to discharge the rejected heat into the hallways or exhaust ducts.  Only a minimum number of ceiling tiles in labs will be removed or disturbed during this process.  Power cables from the temporary power panels to the temporary air conditioning units will be installed and condensate drain lines will be connected to sinks and/or floor drains.         

 

Please note that the exhaust will be operating normally, which means that all fume hoods will operate normally.  Air handling units on the roof will be providing conditioned air into the labs (as they normally do) and this will help to cool the lab spaces.  Additionally, the other three quadrants on these two floors, as well as the rest of the building, will have normally functioning air conditioning.        

 

During the two week construction period, should there be any issue with the air conditioning in your space, please call 568-7715 or 568-7716, and provide your name, contact information, room number and description of the problem.  Occupants should not attempt to adjust the temporary units on their own.

 

The next air handling units will be done in the same manner, with the Perdido Street/South Roman Street quadrant being the next scheduled quadrant.  Future notices will be published with information relevant to the affected quadrants.

  • Bids will be advertised on 9/11/2009
  • The Pre-Bid Conference will be held on 9/28/2009 in the Chancellor’s Conference Room.
  • Bids will be opened on 10/7/2009.

 

STUDENT RESIDENCE HALL PERMANENT REPAIRS AND MITIGATION:

  • Bids will be advertised on 9/16/2009
  • The Pre-Bid Conference will be held on 10/1/2009 in the Chancellor’s Conference Room.
  • Bids will be opened on 10/14/2009.

 

RESOURCE CENTER PERMANENT REPAIRS AND MITIGATION:

  • Bids will be advertised on 9/23/2009
  • The Pre-Bid Conference will be held on 10/8/2009 in the Chancellor’s Conference Room.
  • Bids will be opened on 10/21/2009.

 

1542 TULANE AVE. :

  • The plumbing contractor re-routed the chilled water return piping on the 1st level of the parking garage.    
  • The electrical contractor re-routed the fire alarm annunciator wiring and the Cox cable wiring on the 1st level of the parking garage.
  • The plumbing contractor installed the final connections of the coffee maker for the 1st Floor kiosk.  
  • IT installed the cash register for the kiosk.

   

ALLIED HEALTH/NURSING REROOFING PROJECT:

  • The contractor continued to repair the metal panels on the parapet wall of the atrium roof.

 

DENTAL SCHOOL AUDITORIUM A & B RENOVATIONS:

  • The contractor adjusted acoustical wall panels in Auditoriums A and B.
  • IT configured and tested wireless access in Auditoriums A and B.

 

EXTERIOR/LANDSCAPING:

  • Facility Services spread mulch in the planting beds in front of the Roman Street Garage on the Tulane Avenue side.

 

MEB AIR HANDLING UNIT REPLACEMENT:

  • Facility Services commenced relocation of the temporary A/C units from the 4th and 5th Floor quadrant D to the 4th and 5th floor quadrant C (corner of Bolivar Street and MEB loading dock).
  • The contractor continued testing and balancing of air handling unit 4-D and 5-D. 

 

RESIDENCE HALL 2ND FLOOR LOBBY RENOVATIONS:

  • The contractor installed the stainless steel border around the mailboxes.

 

MEB 7th FLOOR PHYSIOLOGY LABS RENOVATION:

  • The contractor continued installing lab furniture in Room 7241.

 

RESOURCE CENTER ROOF REPLACEMENT:

  • The contractor lowered six roof drains and applied the two-ply temporary roof system on the corner of S. Prieur Street and Gravier Street of the building.
