3D Printing and Scanning

The Dental Library has a LulzBot Taz 5 printer *, a Makerbot Replicator Mini and a Makerbot Digitizer (3D scanner). Print jobs will be scheduled on Wednesday & Fridays to minimize the printing noise in the Library. Priority is given to class assignments and use is limited to LSUHSC-New Orleans students, faculty, and staff. Contact, for additional information. 

To get Started

Find your object to be printed or scanned.

Fill out Request for 3D Printing/Scanning.

Bring the file and the request form to the Library.

File Types

The file types that may be used by our equipment are: STL, OBJ or Thing.

Scheduling a Print Job

Depending on the complexity of a print job, the printer may take over 8 to 10 hours to complete. Jobs are scheduled to be printed only while the Library is open. Please submit your form between the hours of 8 am and 4 pm, Monday through Friday.


LulzBot Taz 5 printer has a build area of 11.4 x 10.8 x 9.8 inches.

LulzBot Taz 5 printer uses various types of filament; we have these available: PLA, PVA, wood-infused, stone-infused, magnetic iron, and flexible TPU.

Makerbot mini printer can print at a maximum build volume of 3.9 x 3.9 x 4.9 inches.

Makerbot Digitizer can 3D scan a maximum size of 8x8 inches.

Makerbot printer uses PLA filament.
