Changing proxy settings in Zotero

April 16, 2024: If you use Zotero’s browser extension that aids in accessing Library resources, please note that you will need to change the proxy settings to work with the Library’s new service.

When changing the Zotero settings or preferences, look for the Proxies area, where you will need to change anything that has ezproxy.lsuhsc.edu to lsuhscno.idm.oclc.org:

Imminent deactivation of old EZproxy service and links

April 15, 2024: Our old EZproxy server will be shut down in the next few days, and any links that point to it will no longer work. Here are some tips on making sure you will be able to access Library resources:

How can I tell if I have an old link? If you have a bookmarked link or come across a page on a website with a link that starts with https://ezproxy.lsuhsc.edu…, it will no longer work when the old service is deactivated.

What should the new links look like? The new links will need to start with https://lsuhscno.idm.oclc.org/login?url= in order to work correctly going forward.

What do I need to do? Contact us! We can help you change your links. You can also fill out this form to let us know and get assistance changing your links.

Library’s link to PubMed and emailing citations

April 4, 2024: If you follow the Library’s link to PubMed and then want to e-mail citations, you will see an error message that will not allow you to proceed:

Screenshot of PubMed e-mail error

This is caused by the reCAPTCHA that is required to send emails from PubMed not working nicely with our EZproxy system. Since we now require logins on and off campus when following Library links, this will affect more people.

If you want to email citations from PubMed, follow this link: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?otool=lsunolib.

This is also a good opportunity to check and see if you have the LibKey Nomad browser extension installed. When you have this add on, searching PubMed and getting to articles is super easy! If you use Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox, Brave, or Vivaldi browsers, you can install the LibKey Nomad extension and find articles effortlessly. It can also be installed in Chrome in your Citrix desktop. Check out our LibKey Nomad LibGuide for more information.

Changes to on campus access to Library resources

March 27, 2024: We’ve recently made a change to what you will need to do when accessing Library resources on campus. If you click a link to a resource in our online catalog, INNOPAC, the E-Books & E-Journals A to Z List, go to one of our Databases, or any LibKey link via our link resolver, you will be asked to log in even if you are on campus.

If you are using a Mac workstation, or click a link to a Library resource on a Windows machine in Firefox, you will see this box asking for your username and password:

Screenshot of login screen

Enter your username (the part before the @lsuhsc.edu in your email address) and your current password.

You should not need to login again during the same session as long as you do not clear the history of your browser.

For those on Windows workstations who were used to not logging in to access Library resources, if you click one of our links from Chrome you will not see the above login screen as the credentials you entered to use your workstation will automatically get you into Library resources.

You will also notice a change to the URLs for Library resources. Since we’re now requiring all users to log in regardless of whether they are on or off campus, you can see the addition of our new EZproxy service in the address bar of your browser:

https://www-sciencedirect-com.lsuhscno.idm.oclc.org/journal/biomaterials/issues

When you see the hyphens and the “lsuhscno.idm.oclc.org” that means you’re going through our EZproxy server. One thing to be careful of, though, is that you cannot copy that link and send it to someone else.

If you have any questions or need any assistance with this or any Library resources, please contact us.

Library links are changing! Are you prepared?

Image of clock and laptop

March 14, 2024: We’re moving to a new system that handles logging in to use Library resources. If you’ve bookmarked any links to a book, journal, or database from the Library, those will need to change.

How can I tell if I have an old link? If your bookmarked link starts with https://ezproxy.lsuhsc.edu…, that will no longer work in a couple of weeks.

What do I need to do? Contact us! We can help you change your links. Or, you can use our Off Campus Link Generator to update them yourself. Just be sure to remove the https://ezproxy.lsuhsc.edu/login?url= from the beginning of your link.

What happens if I see this screen?

Screenshot of error page for proxy service

Don’t worry! Just let us know and we will have the problem fixed. This just happens when a site hasn’t been set up in our new EZproxy service.

Will anything else change? Yes, but for the better! Getting to resources will be more streamlined, and in most cases will be seamless. If you’ve not yet logged into any LSUHSC-NO resources such as Office 365 Mail or something similar, you will just see this page where you need to enter your full LSUHSC-NO email address and password:

I’m trying to log in, but I’m seeing this error. What should I do?

Contact the Help Desk or open a ticket in their Service Desk for assistance. There may be an issue with your account.

Changes to accessing online resources

March 7, 2024: We are currently moving from one EZproxy service to a new one, and are starting to change links to all books, journals, databases, and resources. This service helps us to tell publishers you should be allowed access to all of the resources we receive.

As we continue this migration, when accessing Library resources that require signing in, links will be doing one of two things until we’ve completed editing all links.

In some cases, you will still hit the traditional EZproxy login page:

Screenshot of login screen

In other cases, you will be sent to our new EZproxy system where the login is more streamlined. If you’ve not yet authenticated in your session, when you click a link to one of the Library’s resources, you will see the LSUHSC-NO login where you need to enter your full email address and current password:

Screenshot of login screen

If you’ve already logged in during your session, such as to Office 365 Mail, LSUHSC-Secure, or your workstation, when you click a link to a resource in the new EZproxy system, the next thing you will see is the resource and there will not be an intermediate login screen.

With this new EZproxy system, we will no longer support logging in with just your username and password; full email address and current password is the only option. Also, access to Library resources is limited to current students, faculty, residents, and staff.

If you have problems logging into a resource when seeing the purple LSUHSC-NO screen, IT can assist with account issues.

We will update when we have completed this move to the new service, but if you have any questions about this or any other Library resources, please contact us.

5th Floor noise warning for weeks of February 26th and March 4th

Picture of dismantled library shelving

During the week of February 26, 2024, and March 4, 2024, crews will be on the 5th Floor to remove the items and shelving from the Prieur Street side of the floor. It will be very noisy while they work and we will also need to limit the seating in the immediate area.

Picture of library shelving on the ground

The tables and carrels on the Bolivar Street side of the 5th Floor may offer some respite from the noise, along with the study areas on the 3rd and 4th Floors.

While this is happening, please be courteous to others who may have relocated due to the disruption on the 5th Floor.

UPDATE: EZproxy login issues

UPDATE: February 19, 2024: the problems have been resolved and you should now be able to log into EZproxy using either link.

February 19, 2024: We are currently experiencing issues with the secondary username and password login for EZproxy.

When you see the EZproxy login page, you will only be able to use the first link that will ask for your complete LSUHSC email address and current password:

Screenshot of login page

For those who preferred the login option available through the green bar on the EZproxy login page, that is not working at present.

Library catalog unavailable starting 11pm, Wednesday, February 14th

On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at 11pm, INNOPAC, the Library Catalog, will be unavailable for a couple of hours. The outage is necessary for a system update.

The majority of Library resources will still be available during this time.

Please contact us if you need any assistance.

Notice regarding alumni access to Library resources

We have received reports that alumni are being informed they can access Library resources online once they receive an alumni email account. This is incorrect. Alumni do not have access to the Library’s online resources and subscriptions.

Alumni who have been issued an alumni email cannot access Library resources due to licensing restrictions.

If you need any more information or have any questions, please contact us.

5th Floor Project Update

The major project on the 5th Floor of the Library to create space for an IT data center has reached a milestone. We have completed shifting the print journal collection, so the floor will be markedly quieter for a while.

The next phase of the project, which will entail clearing and tearing down of the shelving on the Prieur Street side of the floor, is tentatively scheduled to commence in the summer. We will post signage warning of increased noise and commotion once we have a better idea of when these next steps will start.

Although the print volumes have been removed, we still have some work to do for the affected journals’ records in our Library catalog. If you need assistance locating a print journal, please don’t hesitate to ask for help.

If you have any questions about this or any other Library services and/or resources, please contact us.

UPDATE: Catalog/INNOPAC slowness

UPDATE: The problem has been resolved and the catalog is back up and running as usual.

Thursday, December 14, 2023: After an outage earlier this morning, we are experiencing slowness with the Library Catalog/INNOPAC. We have reported the issue to the vendor, and will update when we have more information.

In the meantime, you can search for the majority of the books and journals we have online through the E-Books & E-Journals A to Z List, or contact us if you need any assistance.

UPDATE: Problems access Wiley content through EZproxy

UPDATE: The problem appears to be fixed as of 2:45pm 12/11/2023, but if you encounter any problems please contact us.

If you are trying to access a Wiley book or journal with a link that goes through our EZproxy system, those are currently not working correctly. All EZproxy users are experiencing this problem, and it affects links to Wiley titles in the Library’s catalog and the E-Journals & E-Books A to Z List. In all instances, there is a Cloudflare connection check, and the EZproxy links are stalling and will not redirect to the content after logging in.

Until this problem is fixed, you can access Wiley journals and books directly by using OpenAthens.

Start at https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com. When at the Wiley site, click Login/Register on the right of the screen:

Screenshot of journal site

Next, click on Institutional Login at the bottom right of the box:

Screenshot of login box

Then, click on Sign in with your OpenAthens account:

Screenshot of login options

On the next screen, enter LSU and click on LSU Health Sciences Center Library:

Then you will be able to enter your LSUHSC-NO full e-mail address and current password, after which you can access all of the Wiley titles we have access to through our subscriptions.

If you are attempting to get to an article in a Wiley journal from databases such as PubMed, Scopus, etc., those links appear to be working as expected.

We will update when we have more information about this issue, but if you need any help with this or other Library resources please contact us.

Journal subscription cancellations for 2024

Due to low use, we will not be renewing our subscriptions to the following journals for 2024:

  • American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene
  • British Journal of Nutrition
  • Dermatitis
  • Journal of Dentistry for Children
  • Journal of Neuro-Oncology
  • Journal of Neurovirology
  • Neurochemical Research

Also, the following titles are moving to new publishers, but we will not be subscribing to them for 2024 because of low use:

  • Biometrics
  • ISME Journal
  • Journal of Evolutionary Biology

Articles published in 2024 from any of these journals may be requested through our Interlibrary Loan service.

If you need help with this or any other Library resources, please contact us.

RESOLVED: Email login to Library resources currently unavailable

UPDATE: Logging in using an email or via OpenAthens at publishers’ sites is working again.

Wednesday, December 6, 2023: Logging in using your LSUHSC-NO email address to use Library resources is currently unavailable. The OpenAthens service is experiencing an outage, and that is preventing us from using that option both through our EZproxy service and directly at publisher’s websites.

Until this problem is resolved, there is an alternate way to log into Library resources. When you see this screen, click on the green bar:

Screenshot of login options website

Then, enter your username (without the @lsuhsc.edu), and your current password in the two boxes:

Screenshot of login boxes

We will update when we have more information about this problem, but if you need assistance please contact us.
