Power Testing Downtown 9/24/2022

Facilities will be testing the Emergency Power System on Saturday, September 24th from 8am until noon. The Isché Library and the RCB are in the testing area. The Library plans on opening at 9:30am as usual. But there may be an short outage while the system is being tested.

Dental Library Re-Opening 9/19!

The Dental Library will re-open at 8:00am on Monday, 9/19. We will resume normal hours at that time.

LSUSD Faculty Publications | September

As an extension of the faculty publication provided by the Ische’ Library, each month the Dental Library will present the published work of the LSUHSC – School of Dentistry community. These articles, as well as those in our comprehensive Faculty Publications database, are authored by at least one member of the LSUHSC – New Orleans research community. Current publications are stored digitally and can be accessed here:

Publications cited in the Faculty Publications database are harvested weekly from a variety of sources, such as PubMed, SCOPUS, and CINAHL. In addition to articles; books, book chapters, papers, editorials, letters to the editor, and meeting abstracts are included. All publications are authored by at least one member of the LSUHSC-NO community. The database is maintained by Metadata & Digital Projects Librarian Andrew Olinik.

Congratulations, Rebecca Bealer!

Last week the Chancellor’s Excellence award winners were announced and the Libraries’ own Rebecca Bealer was one of the recipients!

Rebecca has worked for the LSUHSC Libraries since 1996 in a variety of rolls. Most importantly for the campus, she was the team lead on rolling out our current off campus management system in 2018. She also is in charge of all the serials/journals for both of our libraries AND is a Mac expert on campus.

The Libraries (and our organization) are very lucky and proud to have her in our ranks

Kathryn E. Kerdolff Retires

Kathy Kerdolff retired yesterday. She had worked for the LSUHSC Libraries since May 1990. Prior to joining the Library as a Reference Librarian, Kathy had worked with Judith Caruthers, Director of Libraries, on a student internship in 1988 and helped with the plan to move the Libraries from the old Medical School Building and the Medical Education Building into the brand new Resource Center Building.

Kathy was the liaison to the School of Medicine since the program began in May 2005. She was active in state, regional and national library organizations, serving on a variety of committees and all levels and holding elected office at all three levels.

Kathy will continue working with the School of Medicine, Department of Surgery after her retirement and holds an emeritus appointment through that department.

PayPaw Service 6/6 & 6/7 – Restored!

The maintenance was not complete today. It will be extended through tomorrow Tuesday, June 7th.

On Monday, June 6, the Pharos PayPerPrint service will be taken down for maintenance. The down time is expected to be a full business day.

During this outage, printing will not be available.

The library will be open this weekend if you’d like to get your printing done before the expected maintenance.

June Faculty Publications

A new selection of articles have been added to the Faculty Publications display in the Ische Library. These eight articles, as well as all of the articles in our Faculty Publications database, are authored by at least one member of our research community here at LSUHSC-New Orleans. Each month the Library is proud to present copies of eight of these publications in a rotating display of 16. With the currently changes, we’ve decided to post the publications digitally. Check out the display below:

Masking Requirement Reinstated 5/26/2022

Once again masking will be required while on campus starting on Thursday, May 26, 2022. The requirement is for surgical or KN95 or N95 masks.

From the Interim Chancellor’s email:

To that end, we will require masking in all campus facilities effective Thursday, May 26. 2022. We are requiring a surgical-grade mask that is snugly placed, covering the nose and mouth. KN-95 masks are also acceptable and required for those exposed or recently returning from a previous case of COVID. Of course, the campus clinic can provide further information.

No Hot Water Downtown 2-9pm 3/31/2022

Message from the Facilities Department:

“On Thursday, March 31st, from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM, there will be a domestic hot water and heating hot water outage on the Downtown Campus affecting the Resource Center Building, Allied Health/Nursing Building, Lions/LSU Clinics Building, Dr. Mervin L. Trail Clinical Sciences Research Building, Medical Education Building and the Residence Hall Building.  During this outage there will be water pressure on the hot water side of faucets but the water will not be hot.  In addition, portions of some buildings may become cooler than normal during the outage due to the lack of heating hot water.  Facility Services will monitor temperatures throughout the outage.  The outage will not affect the hot water supply for any other building.  This outage is necessary for the Central Utility Plant FEMA Mitigation Project contractor to repair steam leaks in the Central Plant.”

Campus Closure 3/30/2022 @ 3pm

Another week, another round of bad weather. New Orleans LSUHSC campuses are closing at 3pm today.

Remember Library resources are available from our webpages. Both Libraries plan to reopen tomorrow at 8am.

Campus Closure at 2:30 on 3/22/2022

Due to weather concerns the campus will be closing at 2:30 PM today.

Elevated Walkway Closure on Saturday, March 19th

From 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 19th, the elevated walkway over Bolivar Street to the Resource Center Building will be closed.

During this time, the Resource Center Building and the Library will be accessible from the 1st floor entrance only.

Please plan your visit accordingly.

Carolyn K. Bridgewater Retires

Carolyn K. Bridgewater, MLIS, MSW, AHIP is on leave until her retirement on March 1, 2022. Carolyn has been part of the Research & Education (formerly Reference) Department since 1993. Prior to her appointment as a Librarian, she worked in the Circulation Department as an Associate from 1989-1992 while completing her Masters in Library Science.

Carolyn was the liaison to the School of Allied Health Professions and had also served as liaison to the School of Public Health. She coordinated library instruction for many years and served on numerous professional organization committees and boards. She was the PI for the Library’s Outreach Grant through NNLM from 2006-2016.

She will be missed!

Elevated Walkways Closed 1/14-1/17/22

The elevated walkway over Bolivar Street will be closed from 6pm Friday, January 14th to 6pm Monday, January 17th

During this time, the Resource Center Building and the Library will be accessible from the 1st floor entrance only, via your LSUHSC ID. Most of the walkways will be closed over the long weekend, so please plan your visit accordingly.
