Myth: The flu shot can give you the flu

Each year, we hear the same excuse for not getting a flu shot -- "the flu shot will give me the flu." That is absolutely not true.

Dr. Benjamin Springgate, LSU Health Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine and Public Health, sets the record straight.

There are several new things to know about the 2016-17 flu season.
Only injectable flu shots are recommended for use this season. The nasal spray is not recommended.

Flu vaccines have been updated to better match circulating viruses.

There will be some new vaccines on the market this season.

The recommendations for vaccination of people with egg allergies have changed.
