LSU Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in Shreveport is seeking a Department Chair/Head of Pathology. The new chair will provide strategic leadership while reporting to the Dean of the School of Medicine and working closely with the Ochsner LSU Health System of North Louisiana leadership.
The department is composed of 26 outstanding faculty members (16 clinical, 7 research, and 3 open for recruitment), 12 residents,1 fellow, and 200 administrative / laboratory staff. The department also includes pathologists invested in clinical informatics. The department accessions over 21,000 surgical specimens, 13,000 cytology specimens, and 360 autopsies, and over 2.1 million clinical tests annually.
The department provides diagnostic services to the Ochsner LSU Health System (Academic Medical Center, St Mary’s Medical Center, and Monroe Medical Center) and patients regionally, nationally, and internationally via the prominent Pathology Outreach Services program. This program focuses on genitourinary and neuromuscular specialties rendering significant revenue and opportunity to the department. Additionally, the department’s Research Division is one of the highest extramurally funded institution’s divisions.

The ideal candidate must be: MD or MD/PhD, Board Certified in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, or other pathology subspecialty, eligible for State of Louisiana Medical License, and demonstrate a successful record of inclusive leadership with experience in clinical operations, administration, education, research, quality, and safety in health care delivery.
