This position works within Business and Reimbursements and under the direction of the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Business and Administration. Collaborates with clinical departments and clinical staff to improve processes. This position has the day-to-day supervisory responsibility for all reimbursement functions that impact revenue-producing departments and governmental reimbursement, and it monitors programs that impact reimbursement to LSUHSC. This position strives to maximize reimbursement and find opportunities for improvement and growth within the Academic Medical Center and our partners.

Regular attendance is required to perform the functions of this position.

Incumbent will maintain a customer-oriented awareness in acknowledging and responding to needs as they occur that customer satisfaction is met at all times.

Essential Position Functions & Duties

35% Monthly Projections/Accounts Receivable

Work with appropriate personnel from Allied Health, ACS, EVT Lab, Family Medicine Alexandria, and Genomics to develop timely and accurate reporting of information needed to prepare projections. Reports that are received are reviewed and analyzed for accuracy. Prepare all work papers for each department using reconciliation reports, departmental monthly reports, Qlikview, PeopleSoft, and reports from OLPG. Prepare appropriate journal entries monthly. These projections assist in the month-end financial close, which is utilized for decision support for the budget process for the medical school. Perform detailed analysis of cash receipts and accounts receivable. Assist fiscal analysts with the collection process of the accounts receivable for clinical revenue. Includes analyzing Qlikview and working with ACS for evaluation of claims in the aging report to assist with the follow-up process. Must maintain current knowledge of changes in the Medicare and Medicaid regulations and statutes related to reimbursement functions. Analyze, study and interpret all updates to the regulations and understand how to implement changes to the regulations.

20% Sponsored and Non-Sponsored Program and Accounting Services Collections

Monitor and assist the fiscal analysts with all outstanding accounts receivable collection of accounts. Assist with reviewing and monitoring contract payments to ensure payments are received per contract terms. Review and revise the organizations Administrative Directive(s) related to accounts receivable. Attend monthly meeting with accounting, grants accounting, and clinical trials to review, and resolve any open A/R balances. Assist fiscal analysts with corresponding with vendors on past due accounts. Assist with all audits related to the accounts receivable process and discrepancies or questions. Review all the department’s policies and procedures related to the collection of accounts receivable.

20% OLPG and OLH Payment Reconciliation

Perform a detailed analysis of the OLPG monthly payment for physician services document. The detailed reconciliation includes reviewing all documents received from Ochsner and OLPG. These documents include Epic OBIEE reports, detailed General Ledger reports from Ochsner, miscellaneous payments reports, and UPL reports and calculations. Participate in monthly OLPG Revenue Cycle meetings to identify any issues with collections. Work with the OLPG staff to clear up any discrepancies or concerns. Also, work with the staff accountant to ensure OLH invoicing is reconciled monthly and quarterly. Attend meetings with Administration and Ochsner to ensure invoicing is updated to the terms of the contract. Assist with Quarterly and yearly reconciliations for Ochsner's cost report.

10% Quality Programs

Monitor and advise the Fiscal Analyst and Clinical Coordinator for all requests for Quality programs that include MIPS, MCIP, Physician Incentive Programs, and other Quality Programs that must be examined for compliance. Monthly and Quarterly meetings with Medicaid Managed Care plans and participating in all CMS and Louisiana Medicaid webinars related to the programs we manage. Assist Fiscal Analyst with ensuring all payments have been received. Lead and assist with all audits related to the Quality programs. Assist with interpretation of updates to regulations related to Quality programs. Ensure that the departments are updated on any changes that affect the quality of patient care and Reimbursement.

5% Audits

Work with all external and internal auditors for all Reimbursement concerns. This includes Governmental agencies related to Claims, Quality, Enhanced Fees, UPL Special Programs such as Managed Care audits, and any audits related to the hospital for the transition. Analyze all audit adjustments to ensure that they comply with the regulations and determine the impact on Reimbursement for the audit adjustment or audit finding. Assist and collaborate with the Administration for items that Ochsner recommends for inclusion or exclusion from the annual Cost Report.

5% Perform other related duties as assigned by the CFO and /or Vice Chancellor of Administration and Finance

The applicant must meet one of the following:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited university in Accounting, Business, or Finance plus eight (8) years of experience in accounts receivable, reimbursements, accounting, or related experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in Accounting, Business, or Finance plus ten (10) years of experience in accounts receivable, reimbursements, accounting, or related experience.
  • Knowledge of the Financial System Peoplesoft
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Work experience in accounting and reimbursement principles

Salary Range: $100,000 - $150,000
