Position Details
A Postdoctoral Fellowship position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Giovanni Solitro, focusing on the development and study of augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) applications in healthcare, with a particular emphasis on surgical training. The Biomechanics Educational Laboratory, located within the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at LSU Health Shreveport, has a long-standing commitment to patient-specific modeling, optimization, surgical and medical education.
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our interdisciplinary team working on cutting-edge VR/AR applications for medical education, healthcare, and surgical training. The ideal candidate will have experience with Unreal Engine or Unity, along with a strong background in computer science, biomedical engineering, or a related field. Responsibilities include designing immersive training applications, integrating medical imaging data, designing experiments, evaluating the efficacy of proposed solutions, and collaborating closely with surgeons and medical educators.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to impactful research at the intersection of healthcare and technology. Candidates should demonstrate strong programming skills and a passion for innovative, real-world applications in the medical field.
The fellow will benefit from extensive training, networking opportunities, and career development workshops through the local Postdoctoral Association, as well as access to intramural grant opportunities via the LSU Health–Ochsner Partnership. Competitive compensation will be provided. Research and career development support will be offered by Dr. Solitro and the research centers at LSUHS.
