Dr. Angela Johnson Recognized with the AMWA 2025 Inspire Award
Celebrating women physicians who inspire others as they lead the way forward in medicine
October 14, 2025
The American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) has announced that Dr. Angela Johnson is being recognized as one of the recipients of the 2025 AMWA INSPIRE Award. This annual award celebrates women physicians who exemplify the highest values of vision, integrity, service, and mentorship in medicine and healthcare.
Dr. Johnson serves LSU Health as the section chief of internal medicine, professor of clinical medicine, associate program director, and professor of clinical medicine. She is also the director of the LSU Health Medicine and Medicine Subspecialty Clinics at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. Prior to working for LSU Health New Orleans, she received her medical education and post-doctoral training from the institution. She became a Fellow of American College of Physicians (FACP) in 2010, and in 2024, she was also named Chair of the Board of Governors of the American College of Physicians (ACP), the national organization of internal medicine physicians.
The AMWA INSPIRE Award is an annual program of the AMWA Leadership Council that honors women physicians who inspire others because of their dedication to healthcare, compassion for patients, leadership, advocacy, or community service. Recipients of the award are nominated by colleagues, mentees, supervisors, trainees, or collaborators.
“During Women in Medicine Month, AMWA takes a moment to celebrate women physicians who have been recognized for their positive impact on their peers,” says Dr. Connie Newman, MD, a Past President of AMWA and Co-Chair of the AMWA Leadership Council. “Each one of this year’s honorees is an exceptional woman physician working in private practice, academia, or in a community clinic dedicated to underserved populations.”
“Honorees have been lauded for their leadership and professional accomplishments, and most importantly, their impact in supporting and advancing the culture and community of women in medicine,” says Dr. Nicole Sandhu, Past President of AMWA, and Co-Chair of the AMWA Leadership Council.
