Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center - New Orleans (LSUHSC-NO) acknowledges and accepts responsibility for the humane care and use of laboratory animals. This institution utilizes the Public Health Service (PHS) Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and uses the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals as a basis for establishing and maintaining an institutional program for activities involving animals. This institutional program complies with all applicable provisions of the Animal Welfare Act, guidance from the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW), the American Veterinary Medical Association Guidelines on Euthanasia, and all state and local regulations.

In addition, LSUHSC-NO has established the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and authorized this board with the primary responsibility for ethical oversight of all activities involving the care and use of live vertebrate animals including, but not limited to, establishing policies and procedures, inspecting facilities, reviewing and approving research protocols, and monitoring adherence to approved protocols. 

The IACUC is committed to ensuring that all individuals involved in the care and use of laboratory animals understand their individual and collective responsibilities for compliance with institutional policies and procedures as well as all other applicable laws and regulations.

All NEW IACUC protocols and their associated post-approval applications must be submitted in the Kuali Research platform. The Word-based IACUC Research Application form is no longer active and any NEW protocols submitted using this form will not be accepted or reviewed. More information is available here.

 

For approved legacy studies, those for which the initial protocol was prepared using the Word-based IACUC Research Application form, please continue to submit all post-approval applications (annual renewals, amendments, and change in personnel) using the existing (Word or Email) forms until the study expires.
